Born Mine
Chapter 93

It took ten minutes to get the patrons out of the bar and within those ten minutes,

Darius arrived. I was sure either Jared or Serena called him, or both and they must have already briefed him because he looked furious already. He walked into the bar and instantly made a beeline for me. His eyes ran over my body to make sure that I was fine.

Once he was certain, he lifted his hands to cup my cheeks. "Did he hurt you?"

"No," I assured him and he nodded.

His hand dropped from my cheek and he turned to Brandon who was seated at the bar like he owned the place. He had taken a bottle of beer and brought it to his lips. He was either unaware or he didn't care that he was in a room filled with werewolves who wanted to kill him and there was little to nothing I could do if they decided to act on those actions.

"What do you want?" Darius growled as he turned to face Brandon.

Brandon simply stared at Darius for a second and placed his bottle down before turning to look at me. "I can see the appeal but you could do much better."

"Give me one good reason why I should not kill you where you stand."

"You will have the full force of the hunter on your hands. One murder is bad enough but three and they will come knocking on your door and take everything you hold dear starting with your precious pack."

I could feel the exact moment confusion descended on the room. Jared and Darius were better at hiding it than Serena who had scrunched brows and was glancing between us to see if either of us knew what Brandon was talking about. Brandon looked proud of himself for having caused so much confusion and commotion. He seemed to bask in the knowledge.

"What do you mean by three murders?" I asked. "Darius hasn't killed anyone. You would be the first."

Brandon laughed. "Allow me to enlighten you on your fiancé and his crimes. As of right now, he is the prime suspect in the murder of your parents. All the evidence points to him."

"Oh come on," Serena muttered at the same time Jared said. "You have got to be fucking kidding me."

They both looked pissed and like they were ready to murder Brandon on the spot for uttering such words against Darius but I was more concerned with something else. "What evidence?" I asked and Jared turned to me in disbelief.

"You can't really believe him," when I didn't say anything, he scoffed. "After everything that he has done for you, do you really believe what this asshole has to say?"

"If I believed him then I wouldn't be standing next to you," I all but spat towards Jared before turning back to Brandon. "What evidence do you have against Darius?"

"That is classified information," Brandon practically smirked. "All I can say is that Darius had the most to gain from your parent's death. His curse stood a chance to be broken and he stood a chance to get you. Come with me, I can protect you from him."

I glanced at Darius who just stood there watching me. I realized that he was giving me the chance to make my own decision. He had not said a single word in his defense since Brandon began speaking and it was at that moment that I realized that silence spoke volumes over the noise.

I turned to Brandon. "If you had irrefutable proof then he would be arrested or dead. When you replace that, come to me."

"You're blinded by your love for him."

"Maybe, but I would rather be blinded by love rather than jealousy," I cleared my throat and took my spot by Darius' side. I could feel the relief from Darius as he wrapped his hand around my waist. "You should go, Brandon. Not everyone takes kindly to insults."

Brandon frowned but took whatever was left of his dignity and left. I watched him walk away and I waited until he had left the bar before I let out a sigh of relief. As soon as he was gone, Jared began to mutter creative swears that would have made a sailor proud. Even Serena was upset and she looked like she wanted to speak but Darius spoke first.

"Lock up the bar," he didn't direct his order at anyone.

Once he had spoken, he grabbed my arm and led me out of the bar and towards his bike. He handed me the helmet and I put it on without any complaints. I knew that this was not the right moment to do so. The ride was silent as Darius rode back to the house. He didn't stop once until the house was within sight.

Once we arrived, he helped me off and led me towards the house. I expected him to speak once we were inside but he just walked away. I was shocked and confused and a little bit annoyed because he dragged me out of the bar only to leave me once we got to the house. I followed behind him and watched him make his way into our room. It was the first time since the accident that we were together in the room.

"You can't be serious," I muttered but Darius didn't say a word. "Are you just going to stay quiet and pretend like you weren't just accused of murdering my parents? You were quiet the entire time which means you know something."

"I know that your ex is psychotic and he is still in love with you. I know that your ex is trying to drive us apart. That is what I know."

He turned away from me and began to strip off his clothes. I could tell he was done with the conversation but I was nowhere near done. I wanted answers and I was going to get them. I made my way over to him and blocked him just as he was about to make his way into the bathroom. He was in nothing but boxers and it was hard for me to keep from looking down.

"You are a lot of things Darius Lunar but I never knew you were a coward," I spat hoping he would rise to the bait but he didn't, he just sidestepped me and made his way into the bathroom.

His dismissal had me even more furious and I made my way into the bathroom. He had stripped his boxers and was standing under the hot shower. I knew I should have left but I decided against it and walked under the shower with him. I knew my brash tactic wasn't working so I forced a deep exhale out of me to calm me down and I placed my hand gently on his back.

His body tensed lightly but he didn't move from my touch and I knew I had made the right decision. I was fully clothed yet he was naked but I still felt vulnerable. I closed the gap between us so my chest was pressed against his back and I allowed my fingers to trail down his torso. Darius inhaled sharply as my fingers raked his bare skin. "What are you hiding from me, Darius?" I whispered but he remained silent. "is this payback for me going to see Brandon behind your back? It doesn't count this time because this is about my parents."

Darius sighed and turned to face me. "I don't know for sure what evidence he has for sure because the hunters are a very secretive people but before your parents died, I went to see them. I think stalking is a more appropriate word because they didn't know. I was young and I had recently learned the truth about the curse. Growing up, I was led to believe that the family responsible for the curse was dead. I found out that your family was alive and I was furious."

"You wanted them dead," I deduced and he nodded.

I knew it wasn't a conversation to be had under the shower so I turned it off and got out. My clothes were wet so I pulled them off and replaced them with a warm fluffy robe. Darius must have mistaken my silence for anger because he rushed over to me. He watched carefully as I got dressed in a pair of shorts and one of his shirts. Darius only put on a pair of low-waisted sweatpants before rushing over to my side.

"Don't get angry before you hear my side of the story," Darius pleaded and I turned to him.

"Tell me everything."

"I went looking for them and I found them. I wanted to hurt them. I thought that if I killed them then our curse would be over but your mother, she saw me. She knew who

I was instantly and she wasn't scared. She told me I could do as I wished but she would tell me the full story and she did. She told me about you and your brother and I just couldn't do it so I left."

"I thought you said the first time you saw me was at the hospital."

"It was but I knew about you long before then," Darius sighed and reached out for me.

"I didn't kill your parents. I would have never wished this on my pack. I would have

never wished the life of an orphan on you. You have to believe me."

"I do," it was the truth. "But you need to stop avoiding me. I noticed it and I know I messed up but don't you think I suffered enough?"

"I wasn't avoiding you on purpose," he at least had the decency to look ashamed. "I just want to get to the bottom of everything. I want things to settle down so we can be together."

"If you're waiting for a perfect time then you're going to wait a while because I doubt

we will get a moment of peace soon."

Darius sighed and pulled me into his arms. He pressed a soft kiss to my lips. "Somehow, I think you're right. I can think of a productive way we can make up for time left."
