C36 – First He Would Forge the Iron Sword

Jiang Que was on his way back to the cabin when the cries of a miniature ferocious beast caught his attention. Glancing down, he noticed it reaching out and making gestures towards him, occasionally pointing in Pann Qiu’s direction.

“I don’t have time for this!” Jiang Que grasped what it wanted: a walk outside. But he had no interest in such trivialities.

His primary focus was on enhancing his realm and protecting the valley, as he was the strongest member of the Flame Mountain Tribe. Whenever the expedition teams came across an invincible ferocious beast, it was his duty to confront it. Moreover, with Spirit Ores being brought back to forge into long swords, Jiang Que needed to develop a set of sword techniques. A formidable set would significantly boost both his own strength and that of the tribe as a whole. Leisurely strolls were not on his agenda.

Even if he had spare time, Jiang Que wasn’t keen on walking pets. Despite the pet’s potential for rapid strength gain and its resurrection ability, which held great research value for Jiang Que, he still wasn’t interested in taking it out for a stroll. If it misbehaved, he would discipline it until it complied; there was no need for emotional attachment.

Having turned down the miniature ferocious beast’s request, it trotted a few steps and caught up with him, gesturing once more. It seemed to have abandoned the idea of a walk with Jiang Que, instead opting to join the clansmen on their outing.

“Go ahead,” Jiang Que said, unopposed to the idea.

He thought to himself, “As long as it doesn’t require my time, it’s all good. The beast won’t die, so it can go wherever it pleases.”

Jiang Que wasn’t concerned about the beast not returning. Through their time together, he had realized it was extremely fond of his Spirit Power. Even if it no longer needed to draw from the Spirit Power in his Qi Sea, it would always stick close by. To the miniature ferocious beast, Jiang Que was irreplaceable.

Although the Flame Mountain Tribe’s clansmen were nearly all practitioners with Spirit Power, the miniature ferocious beast showed no interest in it whatsoever.

The beast was restless. After spending over half a month cooped up in the cabin, it grew tired of the monotony and longed to venture outside.

Upon receiving Jiang Que’s approval, the miniature ferocious beast was overjoyed.

It dashed off toward the direction of Jiang Que’s clansmen.

True to Jiang Que’s expectations, the beast returned that very night to continue sleeping by his side.

For the next ten days, it did not venture out again.

Shortly after Jiang Que advanced to Level 6 of the Spirit Release Stage, a gentle knock at the door interrupted his cultivation. He opened the door to replace the High Priest waiting.

“Patriarch, Roger has sent word that they’ve encountered a formidable ferocious beast.”

“Have someone guide me. I’ll have a look!” Jiang Que said, his interest piqued.

Defeating the ferocious beasts that even the Four Great Armies struggled with would not only expedite their territorial expansion but also enhance his real-world combat experience.

Merely possessing a cultivation level and a cultivation method was insufficient.

Jiang Que needed to engage in battle with formidable ferocious beasts of various abilities to build up his combat experience and ensure he had no shortcomings.

Without real combat experience, Jiang Que’s cultivation and methods alone would leave him vulnerable to being overpowered by adversaries.

Moreover, the unique abilities of these ferocious beasts could spark inspiration.

In fact, many ideas for his Cloud Stepping Spell were derived from such creatures.

Yet, Jiang Que was unconcerned about whether he could slay the beasts that had eluded Roger and his team.

His current power was only marginally greater than Roger’s, by two minor realms.

And Roger was not alone; he had the support of one hundred and fifty Patriarch warriors.

In theory, Jiang Que should not be able to defeat the beasts that had bested Roger and his men.

But the situation was not so straightforward.

Roger and his clansmen had only mastered a diluted version of the Cloud Stepping Spell, which paled in comparison to the full-fledged technique.

Moreover, Jiang Que was the creator of the Cloud Stepping Spell. His mastery and application of the technique were unparalleled by ordinary individuals.

Speed is a crucial element of strength.

Jiang Que was not only swift but also an expert in the Flying Dagger Technique. Even if faced with a hundred Pann Qius or Rogers, they wouldn’t stand a chance against him.

His speed afforded him an absolute edge, making him untouchable to his foes while allowing him to strike at will.

In essence, Jiang Que’s current power was at least greater than that of the Four Great Armies.

Unless he came across an exceptionally strong ferocious beast, he could handle any ferocious beast that the Four Great Armies couldn’t.

“Alright!”

The High Priest immediately instructed his subordinates to summon the clansmen who had sent the message.

Jiang Que surveyed his surroundings.

A short distance away stood several newly constructed warehouses for storing Spirit Ore.

Adjacent to the warehouses were several furnaces, busy smelting odd, multicolored ores.

Jiang Que, somewhat astonished, inquired, “Have we gathered Spirit Ore so quickly?”

“We found these Spirit Ores along our journey. There’s a variety of them here,” the High Priest quickly clarified. “However, they’re extremely difficult to smelt. Some ores won’t even melt after being in a fire for days on end.”

“How much Spirit Ore have we collected so far?” Jiang Que asked nonchalantly.

He was aware that ores imbued with Spirit Power had high melting points, making them challenging to smelt.

Yet, with the myriad types of Spirit Ore available, they were bound to replace some with lower melting points and ample Spirit Power to forge thousands of swords.

“We have over ten types of Spirit Ore, but we’ve only found them in small, scattered amounts. We’ve yet to discover any large deposits.”

The High Priest paused, then added, “We have, however, found plenty of iron ore devoid of Spiritual Energy. This can be used to mass-produce long swords.”

“There’s an abundance of iron ore? Our tribe has only a few iron weapons. How did you manage to replace so much iron ore?” Jiang Que asked, clearly surprised.

The High Priest explained, “Ultimately, food was the most critical resource back then. While iron weapons could enhance our clansmen’s strength, they were ineffective against more powerful ferocious beasts. Historically, our clansmen hunted together, and just a handful of iron weapons sufficed.”

“I see!” exclaimed Jiang Que, pleasantly surprised.

He promptly issued instructions: “Continue to collect Spirit Ore as usual, but also amass a significant quantity of iron ore. Additionally, assign people to forge numerous long swords.”

Iron long swords were indeed useful.

Jiang Que was convinced that mastery of sword techniques, Sword Qi, and Sword Intent was paramount. Although long swords could amplify the force of an attack, they were not the crucial factor. The primary requirement was for the long sword to endure the wielder’s Spirit Power.

The quality of the iron swords might not be exceptional, but they were significantly useful at this juncture. Even though Jiang Que had attained Level 6 of the Spirit Release Stage, an iron sword was sufficiently robust to withstand his Spirit Power.

In the future, once Jiang Que developed the Artifact Refining Technique, he could forge Spirit Swords of superior quality and functionality. For now, he could dedicate time to devising and perfecting his sword techniques.
