Alpha’s Black Furred Slave Mate -
Chapter 88
I was grateful that Reece and Adam agreed to take care of Mateo while I was gone. I wasn't sure how long I was going to be gone, but I needed to get to the river's creek, just as Bob had instructed. I couldn't think about anything else at that moment, I just needed to see for myself that Kamala was okay. I hated that this was happening to her. I couldn't believe that I had put her in such danger; if it wasn't for me, none of this would be happening. Kamala wouldn't be nearly dead. Marlon wouldn't be trapped in the castle with his guards. Bob wouldn't be fighting to defend the dirtballs. Alex wouldn't be angry enough to kill. I couldn't help but think that it was entirely my fault.
It was all because I pulled the small straw and ended up at the Roessler manor, to begin with. What would have happened if I didn't pull that straw and I ended up in a different manor. Would I still be alive?
I know Mateo wouldn't even exist.
I transitioned into my wolf form right after I left Reece and Adam's house; I had to get to the river's creek quickly. If Kamala really was alive like my wolf says she is, then I needed to get there before anything actually happened to her. Alex was obviously using her for something sadistic or else he would have never taken her in the first place.
He was using Kamala to get to Bob and me. That wasn't fair to Kamala.
I thought about reaching out to Marlon and letting him know what was going on while he was trapped in the castle, but I knew if I told him I was heading to the creek to help Bob he would be angry with me. He would order for me to turn back and get Mateo. He would want me to stay in the village and that wasn't an argument I really wanted to have right now.
I also really wanted to know if he was okay, but it was going to have to wait until later. Once we got Kamala and defeated Alex once and for all, we would be able to go to the castle and try and get Marlon and his men free.
We would have to first figure out how they managed to be a shield around the castle and lock them inside.
I wondered if Petra was with Alex. From what Bob was saying earlier, it didn't' sound like Petra was a factor at the moment. Which was weird because I always assumed she was the mastermind behind this whole plan. But Bob explained that Petra was Alex's maid in the castle, and she does whatever he tells her to do.
That didn't sound like Petra at all.
I didn't trust a thing Alex said and wouldn't put it past either of them to be lying.
As I reached the river's creek, I could hear the voices of Alex and Bob. They were already getting into it; I could also sense that Kamala was near them as well, but she was still unconscious.
"I will get you what you want, Alex. Just leave her alone."
That voice came from Bob; he sounded frantic and desperate. I could only imagine what Kamala must have been looking like to him at that moment. My heart pulled at the thought of her dead on the ground; even though we knew she wasn't actually dead. The image of her death must have been difficult for him to see.
"What is it you think I want?" Alex shot back, there was humor in his voice. He was getting a rise out of Bob and he was enjoying doing so.
"You want to be the sole heir. You can have it. I'll back down," Bob promised.
I gasped at the thought of that; there was no way Marlon would ever allow for that to happen. It wasn't up to Bob who received the full estate, it was up to Marlon.
"Nice try," Alex laughed. "But it's not up to you. Father would never allow that to happen," Alex said, sounding annoyed. "Try again."
"Don't worry about father," Bob insisted. "Just know, brother, I will back down as sole heir. It's yours if you want it."
"How will you make something like that happen?" Alex asked; now he was sounding intrigued.
"Father is trapped in the castle is he not? What if he just stayed there..." Bob said almost hesitantly.
I nearly stopped in my tracks at his words.
He wasn't seriously thinking about leaving Marlon trapped in the castle, was he? He wouldn't do that to his own father. Would he? He was supposed to be helping me; he was supposed to be helping his father. This wasn't helping either of us. This was straight-up selling us out.
As I neared them, their images became clear to me. They were standing in front of one another, both of them looking heated. Bob looked more worried, and his face was flushed; Alex had pure humor dancing in his eyes, but he also was a bit flushed with a timid fury that was coursing through his body.
On the ground behind Alex laid Kamala. She looked pale and broken; her dark hair fell messily around her features. Her eyes were closed, and her body looked frigid. My heart tugged at the image. I still blamed myself deeply for this happening to her. "What are you saying?" Alex asked, raising his eyebrows.
"I'm saying, if father can't get out of the castle, he no longer has a say in who gets to be the sole heir. As his sons, we get to decide," Bob told him.
"You would leave father in the castle? For her?" He asked, glancing down at Kamala, who remained unmoved.
Bob followed his gaze down to Kamala; he seemed almost shocked himself. I wasn't sure what he was getting at with this, but I wasn't liking it. "Yeah," Bob surprised me by saying. "I would do anything for her..."
I was astonished as the silver aura of his wolf began illuminating his skin and brightening his features. He looked so much like Marlon at that moment when Marlon is around me. I recognize the haziness of the wolf's aura enlightening his structure. I just couldn't believe that I was seeing it from Bob.
Kamala was his mate.
That didn't make any sense. Kamala hadn't mentioned the fact that she thought Bob was her mate. Surely, she would have felt it too. I didn't notice her wolf's aura at all when she was around Bob, but maybe she hasn't felt it yet. She was still young, and her wolf has been hidden for so long that maybe she doesn't know what it felt like to have a mate. Or recognize the tugging sensation of her wolf.
I know I was confused when it first happened to me. But my wolf was much louder and made it more known. Maybe hers was quieter and less obvious.
"She really is your mate," Alex said in disgust; it wasn't a question.
Bob thought about it for a moment before nodding once.
"I think so," Bob said, almost breathlessly like he was still trying to process that information for himself.
I stepped out of the shadows; I couldn't handle being hidden any longer. Not with everything that was being revealed and the fact that Bob was willing to keep Marlon locked away to appease Alex. That wasn't going to happen under my watch; not while I lived and breathed.
They both turned to look at me as I made myself known to them. Alex broke out into a grin as if he knew I was there the entire time. Bob's eyes widened and a shameful gaze flashed across his eyes. He must have been ashamed of himself for what he said, and I overheard.
I wasn't going to address it at that moment though; my attention was locked on Alex. I transformed into my human form as I walked toward them. My fists clenched at my sides, so tightly that my knuckles were going white.
I was angry; I could feel the fury boiling in my blood and reddening my features. I was soon going to look like a cherry if the redness kept enhancing.
Bob swallowed hard and took a step away from me with unease; he was nervous. I could feel his nervousness and I was pleased by that. I wanted him to know that I was pissed at his betrayal. I wanted him to feel the wrath.
But I wasn't ready to unleash it yet; I had things to say to Alex and I wasn't going to wait around any longer.
Just as I stopped in my tracks and opened my mouth to say something, I heard a loud gasp, followed by a trail of coughing.
We all turned in the direction of Kamala and saw that her eyes were open, and she was sitting up. She was holding onto her stomach in agony and coughing up her lungs; I felt a breath of relief clouding over me and I suddenly no longer felt angry. Bob looked relieved as well and he looked as if he wanted to spring to her and embrace her. I know I did.
"Kamala!" I shouted as I lunged towards her.
Her eyes were wide and alert as she stared around her surroundings. She was completely baffled and confused.
"What happened?" She asked, her tone raspy.
