Chapter 25

Andrew's POV

When I was up the next morning I see Catalina sitting up facing me but looking out the window. "You ok love?" I asked sitting up to face her. Her eyes drift to me.

"I keep getting flashes from what happened yesterday." She says. Does she remember what I said?

"What kind of flashes?" I ask.

"I remember the anger I felt. I remember the flames. Why was I so angry?" She asked me. I really don't want to lie to her but I can't tell her either.

"All I can say is we were talking about what Kayla told us and then you appeared at the door. You over heard something and it made you upset. We trapped you in the circle in the room and you exploded into flames." I said hoping it was enough, it was all I could tell her. Her eyes drifted back to the window.

"You aren't allowed to tell me are you?" She asked without taking her eyes away from the window.

"No" I said.

"Is it bad?" She asked.

"Yes"

"Will it hurt?" She asked

"Yes." I whispered. She took in a deep breath. A single tear fell from her eye. I reached to wipe it away and she grabs my hand and places it back down on the bed. Then she got up from the bed and left the room. I got up and went out after her. She was already down the steps and then she went out the back door. When I got to the back door my dad grabbed my arm.

"Give her some time Andrew. She's not going far but she needs some time." I look out and see a small building. Lina walks inside.

"What is that?" I asked.

"It's a guest house. Lilith told Lina she could spend some time there today if she needed it." He said.

"When was that?" I asked surprised.

"This morning, before you were awake. I think Lina remembers some things about yesterday but she can't figure it out. Like there's a wall blocking her memory." He said

"Kehlani" I say. He nods his head in agreement. I hate that she is far from me. I just want to go over there and hold her. But I hold back and give her time. We all spend the next few hours talking about Lina, Kehlani, and the Phoenix.

"I don't understand how the Phoenix plays into all of this." I say.

"Well the Phoenix was created by the Sun God, her uncle. I'm not really sure why it now lives inside her. But from what I saw last night I'm not sure what else it could be. It also might have something to do with the sacrifice Kehlani was talking about to the Sun God." Lilith said. We talk about our plans to leave tomorrow. Kehlani said the events will happen fast after we leave here. I didn't want to leave. I didn't want the events to unfold. But I need Lina to be who she is meant to be. Around lunch time I take some food over to the guest house. I knock on the door and peek inside. Lina is sitting on the bed and looking out the window.

"I brought you some soup and bread." I say putting the tray beside her.

"Thank you. I'm sorry I just need some time to think about all this stuff." She says

"I understand. Lina I just want you to know, I love you. I have loved you from the moment I set eyes on you in your father's office. My love has grown everyday since then. I would never do anything to cause you harm if I can avoid it." She looks at me weird on the last words. "If you can avoid it." She just repeats it.

"I also wanted to tell you, tomorrow we will be headed back." I say. She looks back out the window and nods her head. I leave her there and head back to the house. I feel a ping in my heart aching me to go back to her. But I keep going.

Later that night I head back over to the guest house to give Lina her dinner. When I open the door I don't see Lina anywhere and fear sets in. I put the tray down and look around the room. I see the tray of soup I brought her earlier. It's untouched, maybe something happened and she didn't eat. I see a door in the back and burst through. Then I see Lina laying in the tub. She stirs and opens her eyes.

"I'm sorry I just wanted to sleep for a bit." She says and my panic washes away. It's been so long since she's slept in the tub I forgot she did this.

"It's ok love, but won't you come back to the house and sleep with me?" I ask reaching out my hand. She nods and takes my hand. I pull her up and out of the tub. When we enter the bedroom I see she smells the food I brought.

"I brought you dinner if you want to eat first. I noticed you didn't eat your lunch." I gave her a look. She looks down.

"I was just so caught up in my thoughts. Im sorry. I am hungry. Can I eat first?" She asked.

"Of course love." We take a seat next to each other. She eats as I watch her. She finishes and we head back to the main house. When we walk in Lilith and my dad are in the kitchen talking, they come out to greet us as we enter. "How are you doing dear?" Lilith asks gently.

"I'm doing alright. There's a lot I don't know or understand.. but maybe it's for the best right now. If I'm going to trust Kayla and you guys then I really need to. I haven't fully put my trust in any one, ever. Maybe that needs to change." She looks around to all of us. Lilith takes her hands.

"Lina the only true person you need to trust is yourself. I know this is a lot to take in. But you were born to be the person you are becoming. From what we have gathered it will be hard and painful at times. Trust your instincts. Listen to Kayla. I hope one day you look back at this time as a part of your journey that shaped you." Lilith pulled Lina into a hug. I was surprised by this but I saw Lina lean into it. When they pulled away my dad placed his hand on Lina's shoulder. To my surprise Lina hugged him too. Lina pulled away, grabbed my hand and we went up stairs. We got undressed and crawled into bed. Lina curled in close to me and fell asleep on my chest. I listened to her breathing. Fear filled me. The thought of losing her. The thought of hurting her. The thought of her dying. And the thought that there is nothing I can do to stop it.

Meanwhile

"Are you all in position for when they leave?" Jackson asks.

"Yes sir." He replies

"Good. If this goes wrong I will hold you responsible, and the boss will know about your screw up." Jackson says as he hangs up the phone.

"They are in position. Once they leave you will have the girl." Jackson says.

"Good. After your transgression with her this better work. You are on thin ice Jackson. This is your last chance before I remove your heart from your chest." I say.

"Yes boss you will have her." Jackson says bowing his head and leaving the room.
