Born Mine
Chapter 59

DARIUS' PO.V.

I hated feeling helpless. Ever since my parents died and there was nothing I could do about it, I made a promise to myself that I would never put myself in that position. I kept that promise for sixteen years but in one day, Faye had ruined it. Seeing Ian walk out with Leindra in his arms looking bruised and broken threatened to wreck me from the inside out. If Faye had any chances for redemption, they were ruined by that singular action.

I knew that she was safe within her room but I couldn't help but feel anxious. I wanted to see her, I wanted to know that she was safe. I knew she was angry with me but I was willing to take her anger as long as it meant she was safe. I would take her insults over looking at her dead body.

"We can continue tomorrow," I cut Ian off. I didn't know what he was talking about, I zoned out when they started discussing whether to go on offense or defense. "Make sure every inch of this house and every entrance into Lunarius is guarded. I want to know when anyone breathes too loudly. Is that clear?"

Ian nodded. "No one is coming into Lunarius without your permission. Also, the man sent by Faye is in the dungeons. Would you like to see him?"

"Later." I stood to my feet. "I have something important to handle first."

Everyone knew I was referring to Leindra. There was nothing else that would make me leave my work unattended. It wasn't a secret that I cared for her, anyone with eyes could see it. I would have never done this much for just anyone but then again, she wasn't just anyone, she was my mate.

I made my way towards my wing of the house. It was quiet like it always was. That was the reason I chose it, I enjoyed my solace and my space. No one ventured in here unless it was important. They knew how cranky I got about people being around me which was why Amaris was shocked when I told her to put Leindra in the room next to mine.

I bumped into Amaris when I was climbing up the stairs. She had a tray of food in her hands and if not for her quick reflexes, it would have fallen from her arms.

"Are you okay?" I asked and she nodded with a small smile. "I meant after what happened today. If you want to go back to Europe, I would understand."

"I'm fine, Darius. You're my brother and I want nothing more than to help you. I was just taking this to Leindra. I can't imagine how lonely she must be feeling right now."

"I'll take it," she raised a brow but slowly handed it over to me. "I am heading that way now, it only makes sense that I just give it to her."

"Okay, but Darius be gentle with her. She isn't like us, she doesn't know you like us. You need to go easy on her. She has the weight of the world on her shoulders and I'm not sure if she is strong enough to handle it."

"Leindra is stronger than you give her credit for."

"Maybe, but still, just be soft with her."

I could tell there was more to it than Amaris was telling me but before I could ask, she walked away. I could have called her back and demanded an answer but she disappeared around the corner. Her words stuck with me the entire walk to Leindra's room. When I got there, I knocked instead of just barging in like I usually would.

She didn't answer even after knocking the second time. I rolled my eyes in annoyance. Only Leindra would play the silent treatment. I pushed the door open and immediately froze. The tray dropped from my hands and I rushed out of the room into Amaris'

She jumped when I slammed her door open. She was lying on her bed with a book in her hands but when she saw my expression, she rushed to her feet. "What is going on?"

"Leindra is gone."

We went to the front door together but none of the guards had seen her. I was about

to pull out my hair in frustration. It made no sense that a person would be able to disappear without anyone noticing. If she could easily get out of the house then it meant Faye's people could easily get in.

My temper was on a tightrope and I knew that any little thing was going to push me off the edge. Everyone knew it too which was why Amaris decided to check Leindra's room for signs of a struggle to know if she ran or if she was taken. I was pacing in the living room and barking orders at the guards to check the woods.

When Amaris returned, she had Leindra's phone in her hands. "She left her phone but she took everything else."

I let out a growl and before I could stop myself, I punched a hole in the wall. Dust crackled in the air but no one said a word. I was furious. Why would she run away, especially at a time like this? She knew very well that she was the target. What demon could have possessed her into running away?

"I got a hit on her credit card," Ian said as he walked into the room. "It was at the bus stop downtown. She took out every penny she owned. I think she may have gotten on

a bus there. I already asked them to get the CCTV footage ready for us."

He was barely done with his words before I was out of the house. I knew my bike would be faster so I hopped on it and started riding. I knew the others would catch up to me sooner or later but I was moving on autopilot.

I got to the bus stop in record time and the owner was waiting outside. I could see him shaking with fear as I made my way closer. Anyone with half a brain would have felt the anger radiating off me in waves. He didn't waste time with meaningless pleasantries. Instead, he ushered me into the viewing room where he played the footage.

I was watching it when Ian and the others arrived. We were able to see Leindra and the bus she got on but there were at least five stops on that trail and we had no idea where she had gone. She had nothing on her to help us track her and I knew without a doubt that she did on purpose.

At the end of the day, we agreed to split up and get off at different stops. The sky was dark and I was worried that if we didn't replace her tonight then she would get even further away from us. I took the last stop because I had a feeling she would want to put as much distance as possible between us. I hated the idea of us splitting up but it was necessary to replace Leindra.

When I got to the last stop I muttered a small curse under my breath. It looked like a hub of criminals and if I found Leindra here, I was going to kill her. I had a picture of her on my phone that I showed to people but no one seemed to know her. I was losing hope but I decided to go into the first store I saw.

"Is there a hotel around here?" I asked and the man at the counter laughed as if I had told a joke.

"The closest hotel here is the Melrich motel and if you ask me, you're better off sleeping on the streets but you're welcome to check it out. It is just a few miles from here."

I thanked him for his help and rode off to the motel. When I got there, I understood what he meant. The place looked like it bred infections and diseases for a living. I made my way inside and there was a woman at the counter. She had a hat over her face and I knew she was sleeping. I slammed my hand down hard on the counter and she yelped. She jumped off the chair so fast that it toppled over to the ground.

"I was sleeping, you," she trailed off when she saw me and just like that, she switched. She plastered on the kindest smile she could muster. "Would you like a room, sir? We don't have any available but I can spare an extra bed in mine."

I curled my lip in disgust. "I'm looking for a woman with blond hair. Did she pass by here this evening?"

She rolled her eyes when she realized I wasn't here for leisure. "I put her in room thirty but I'm sure she has company by now if you know what I mean. I would be more than happy to accommodate you."

She reached out to touch me but I slapped her hand away and made my way up the stairs. Everyone was smart enough to stay away from me as I searched for room thirty. When I got there, the door was wide open and I knew that Leindra wouldn't be stupid enough to leave it open. What I saw had my blood boiling.

"You are a pretty little thing if I do say so myself, maybe I could take something for the trouble. You wouldn't mind, would you?" I heard a voice whisper and I couldn't stop myself from responding.

"You wouldn't mind if I knocked your teeth into your fucking mouth, would you?"
