Business Always -
CHAPTER 11—XAVIER POV
"Good afternoon, Robert." I shake hands with the boy from Atlec. We're having a meeting before the holidays, but I told him I'm not going start any new business projects before Christmas-Kings Corp is extremely busy during this season, and I don't have the time.
"Good afternoon, Mr King. It's Robin, actually," he corrects me.
I open my mouth to tell him that I really don't care what his name is but before any words could leave my mouth, a soft knock taps against the door of his office.
"Did I keep you guys waiting too long?" her voice, soft and sweet, asks. She had an apologetic look on her face.
"Don't worry about it, Miss Davis," Robert says, openly ogling at her.
"I just arrived as well," I clear up. My voice moves her attention to focus on me. Her eyes settle on me, her small smile instantly disappears.
"Oh, right. You're in this deal too," she remembers.
Throughout the entire meeting, Amelia's eyes never meet mine. She looks intently at Robert the entire time, watching his every word than looking at me.
"So, is that plan okay with everyone?" he asks after he's done presenting his ideas. We both nod. "I'll call you back in the new year," he ends the conversation.
"Why are we waiting until the new year?" Amelia raises the question.
"Well, Christmas is coming, and I know you two will be busy with your own companies in the holiday season," he says.
"I run hospitals. I'm busy 24/7," she shoots back.
He's lost for words, stuttering and trying to not look stupid in front of her.
From experience I knew that wasn't an easy task.
"How about we do this?" I swoop in to save his ass. "If Miss Davis is so excited to start early, then she can. I'm only contributing after Christmas-I have other priorities."
"So I have to do all the work until then?" she fires.
"I'll be there," Robert chimes in.
She gives him a look, as if he's said the stupidest thing ever-guess he failed. "Of course you'll be there. It's your company."
"Fine." I turn to face Robert. "My partnership will start with you on the first of January. Until then, you and Miss Davis can share all the profits."
He nods and quickly edits the paperwork through his laptop.
"Happy now?" I ask Amelia, raising an eyebrow.
A content smile appears on her face. "Thank you," she mumbles.
"Also, Miss Davis," Robert says, "if you want to get Mr Chopra into this deal again, then
"Are you trying to work with me or use me to get to my fiancé?" she cuts him off coldly.
He's silent for a moment too long.
"I see." She gets up. "Mr King." Her eyes dart to meet mine. "He's all yours. I hope you two have a prosperous partnership."
I nod, understanding, humour dancing under my still facial expression at his boy's panic.
"Miss Davis!" He walks after her, stopping her before she leaves the room. "Please, I didn't mean that I just wanted to "
"You made your intentions clear enough," she says, her tone remaining calm and professional.
"You can't blame me. I'm just trying to get as many people in my team as possible," he says, sounding exasperated.
"Isn't Mr Chopra the one who said your company isn't worth it?" she asks him, and when he doesn't say anything, she carries on talking. "Mr King and I are the only people who decided you were worth anything, who took the risk with you, and you're so ungrateful."
I sit up. Ger anger is bubbling beneath the surface, and I don't want her to humiliate herself. "Miss Davis," I say, my voice warning her.
"I remove my name from this partnership and my 55 million dollars from it too. I hope you can convince Mr King to pay that up, or your company has just halved its net worth," she says and leaves, the ringing of the door making the boy wince.
"What?" he says, rubbing his head in confusion at what just happened.
I chuckle to myself. "You've lost a lot more than she has," I remind him. "Try and get her back into the deal." I shoo him out.
He nods and jogs out of the room, calling her name out. From the looks of it, he doesn't need run too far.
I can't see or hear the interaction between them, but I know what happened when he walks back defeater into the office.
"How'd it go?" I ask, even though I know full well how it went.
"She doesn't listen to anyone!" He throws his hands up in defeat.
I scoff, he was right she never listened to anyone even if she was the one being
nondramatic or blowing things out of proportion. But hearing him talk about her like that wasn't sitting well with me.
"Why do you think she's the richest one here?" I ask him.
He stays quiet when he realists the thing he's bitching about is really the reason she's
the best one here. "You're chasing for her fiancé when she's the better one."
His shoulders slump down. "Can you talk to her?" he asks, regret creeping onto his face.
"What makes you think I'll be any help?"
"You were married to her. Maybe you have a better shot than me at convincing her."

"I'll try but no promises." I sigh and get up.
I walk out of the office to see her, not too far away, on her phone.
"You're still here?" I raise an eyebrow.
"I'm not coming back," she huffs. "My car won't arrive for a few minutes, and it's cold
outside." She rubs her left arm with her right hand, trying to warm herself.
I look at her, her legs exposed in a deep purple dress that reached her knees. No wonder she was cold.
"I think you should come back inside, Miss Davis," I say.
"I'm not coming." She crosses her arms like an angry child.
"We both know how much an engineering team will help you out," I try to convince
her.
"I'll replace another one," she says. "Besides, he doesn't even want to work with me. His
eyes have been on Alexander the entire time."
"He was just trying to do what he thought was best," I try to reason with her.
"I am what's best," she says confidently, a new fire in her voice when talking about her
successes.
"Then show it to him." I gesture for her to walk back into the room.
"If he fucks up one more time, I'm going to leave for good." She sighs. "I'll catch up
with you. I need to call my driver and tell him to wait."
I walk back to the office where he's waiting. "She's coming," I say, and his face lights up.
"But if you mess it up again, she's leaving and so will I."
He nods excitedly and immediately apologias to Amelia when she walks back in. "I am
so sorry for what I said."
"It's alright," she says back. "But even if I hadn't walked back inside, you never would've gotten Mr Chopra's investment."
"I'm sure I could've convinced him," he says stupidly.
"Could you?" Her eyes glisten with excitement at debating with him.
Was she enjoying this?
"Fiancé," I say while pretending to cough, and that was enough to make him realize. I didn't need to be a spectator at an unnecessary argument.
There was no way Chopra would invest in an upcoming company especially if his wife- to-be told him not to which I knew she would.
After a few more words me and Amelia leave his office, she begins to walk faster, the clicks of heels getting louder.
I grab a hold of her right arm with my hand, her abrupt pause makes her lose her balance and stumble back into me.
Her small frame backs into my chest and my hands instinctively wrap around her waist to stop her falling.
After she's regained her stability, she removes herself from my hold. "What was that for?" She turns back and asks.
"Are we going to talk about the other night or not?" I ask her.
"I don't know what you're talking about?" she says, but the blush creeping on her face
says otherwise.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about, or would you like me to say it?"
"I was drunk. It didn't mean anything," she says casually.
"You expect me to believe that?" I scoff.
"I don't care whether or not you believe it. I was downing drink after drink, and it just happened!" she says, her tone getting irritated.
I take a step closer to her, closing the gap between us, and ask her, "Just drunk, huh?"
She shifts uncomfortably under my gaze. "Yes." She sounds unsure.
"You've lost your mind, and I'll be here when you finally come back to your senses, Miss Davis." I smirk. I know I'm getting on her nerves, but I can't help myself.
"You know what?" she says, teeth clenched. "Alexander's flight will land in a few hours,
I don't need to be here dealing with your bullshit Mr King."
We both knew she was lying through her teeth. The way she kissed me, so soft and
pure, like a feather against my lips.
I knew it wasn't a drunken mistake.
She turns on her heels and walks off, getting into her car.
I smile smugly. Whether she accepts it or not, I know she felt something, and I'm going
to make sure I know what it was.
Fate was playing a twisted game with me, constantly dangling what I wanted in front of
me, but I was too far to catch it but now I was done playing games.
Because I knew she would be worth it.
Because I've waited enough.
Because she's mine.
