Chapter 75:
“It was merely a minor assistance on my part. I don’t intend to impose. Let’s treat the billion as a loan. I promise to pay it back with interest in a month.”
Rhys had never expected repayment from Harlee.
His offer was a means to an end.
If this financial tie could lead to more encounters with her, he was all too happy to extend it.
“Very well, I’ll await your repayment.”
Nearby, Brenton’s brow furrowed in confusion and suspicion.
What grandfather? What life-saving favor? He was lost regarding their conversation, yet one thing was crystal clear to him.
Rhys harbored a keen interest in Harlee.
He suspected Rhys had orchestrated the debt to engineer private moments with Harlee.
“I will settle her debt,” Brenton declared, extending a platinum credit card toward Rhys.
Rhys maintained an impassive expression, refusing the card.
“I appreciate the offer, but Miss Sanderson has already made her intentions clear. She prefers to handle this matter personally.”
Brenton narrowed his eyes, shooting a suspicious glare at Rhys.
“Don’t think I don’t see what you’re trying to do. You might have her fooled, but not me. Let me make this clear.
Harlee isn’t someone you can just chase after.”
Rhys, unfazed, smirked, mirroring Brenton’s squint with a mocking tilt of his head.

“Oh? I’d really love to know how many women you’ve been chasing elsewhere instead.”
“You!” Brenton’s face turned red with frustration, his voice laced with barely restrained anger.
Harlee, caught between their standoff, frowned.
She couldn’t understand what had gotten into the two of them.
But she had more pressing concerns and wasn’t interested in figuring out their quarrel right now.
She interrupted firmly, her voice calm yet decisive.
“Brenton, I appreciate your concern, but I can handle my own issues. You don’t need to involve yourself.”
Without waiting for Brenton’s response, Harlee turned her attention to Rhys.
“Mr. Green, I have to go. Let’s just say I owe you one for this. I’ll make it up to you with a meal sometime.”
Rhys nodded, a faint smile playing on his lips.
“I’ll hold you to that.”
Brenton, visibly displeased, gave Rhys a long, hard stare before reluctantly following Harlee out.
Yet, by the time Brenton reached the door, Harlee was already gone.
He swept a hand through his hair, giving a soft, irritated grunt.
How did she manage to disappear so fast?
Rhys watched Brenton leave, his expression hardening, jaw clenched as his eyes darkened with an unreadable look.
