Chapter 44: Holding Back His Urge

With its neck crushed into pieces, the komodo dragon soon went limp as a dark orb appeared from the middle of the komodo dragon’s body.

And Blake, who had been killing demons ever since the first day he arrived into the demon realm, of course, knew that the dark orb was none other than a soul.

But why did he stare at it so intently as if he had never seen such a thing?

Even his heart rate slightly increased when he saw the soul appearing out of the komodo dragon’s body.

Blake gulped down the saliva that had mysteriously gathered in his mouth as he shook his head a couple of times before slapping his own cheeks.

‘No Blake! Robus was the one who killed it, it’s Robus’ soul!’ He said to himself.

Yes, the reason Blake was practically staring holes at the soul was that he had instantly started imagining the taste of the komodo dragon’s soul if he were to eat it.

.....

He knew the komodo dragon was a strong demon and the chance for it to be at least as good as the crow’s soul was high.

And just imagining the soul going into his stomach and the savory and delightful sensation returning to his body, Blake had to consciously remind himself that he shouldn’t want to eat the soul because Robus was the one who had worked hard to kill the beast.

Fortunately, Blake didn’t have to hold himself back for long as Robus quickly ate the soul and removed it from Blake’s vision.

And when the soul finally went out of Blake’s eyes, Blake was able to calm himself down even further before completely erasing the surging urge that filled his mind earlier.

Blake shook his head a couple more times to make sure that the urge had completely gone out of his system before jumping closer to the huge gorilla that had just won his fight.

“Hey, you completely destroyed that thing, but what took you so long? I fought mine for more than half an hour and you’re still not done.” Blake asked when he just landed a few feet away from the gorilla.

Robus had felt the connection that he had with Blake had gotten stronger for quite some time, and he felt it even more after he finished the fight, hence he wasn’t startled when Blake suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

“Rrr??rrr.” (Hour? What is that? But I don’t fight for long, I just got here some time ago and quickly fought the annoying lizard.”

Blake realized that the concept of time was still confusing for the gorilla and just skipped the explaining part before he continued speaking.

“Really? It’s really been a while since we split up, but I was able to defeat the huge bird and then come here to watch you fight.”

“rrr...” (The annoying lizard is hard to replace, I can’t remember where we met that thing last time...)

‘Ah... that explains it... I forget how useful my memory is for a lot of other things other than just memorizing runes...’ Blake scratched the back of his head.

His photographic memory had been such a normal and usual thing for him that Blake forgot that most other people couldn’t remember the detail of things that they’ve seen only once or twice.

And especially so for the gorilla that had just started fluently speaking with him about a week ago.

He still didn’t know whether the covenant really affected Robus’ intelligence or not, but the fact that he could now converse so well with the gorilla that used to be so simple-minded before might be a sign that he couldn’t ignore.

However, since it wasn’t a problem or anything urgent that he should solve immediately, Blake decided to just be grateful that he got another talking companion besides Vera.

Staring at the komodo dragon’s corpse, Blake turned to the gorilla “You are not gonna eat that?”

“r. Rrr” (No. As I’ve said, I like the fruits better.) Robus shook his head.

Blake had been curious about it ever since he saw the boars eating the wolves even though he remembered that the boars back on earth mostly eat fruits, nuts, mushrooms, and other plants.

For the past week, the two of them had been hunting all kinds of beasts. From the usual boars and wolves to the not-so-small demonic birds that had the same size as those boars, he had never seen Robus eat any of them.

He thought it was because of the same reason that Robus gave most of those souls that they hunted together for him because those beasts were weak.

But seeing that he still refuses to eat the komodo dragon that could be said to be his match if not for the dark earth armor giving him superior protection compared to the other gorilla, Blake now understood that the gorilla who had huge muscles and was able to destroy things with his bare fists was in fact, vegan.

And knowing that the komodo dragon’s body would probably be put to waste, Blake wanted to also bring it back home and try its meat to see whether stronger beast meat would also mean higher quality and tastier meat.

But the crow had taken most of the space of the dimensional pouch and he couldn’t take the komodo dragon.

And between choosing chicken wings and unknown komodo dragon meat, of course, Blake chose the former without much deliberation.

After some more chatting between the two, they then decided to go back home.

Blake jumped on top of Robus’ back and patted his shoulder twice, “Let’s go back!”

Then with large strides and sometimes jumping here and there, the two creatures made their way back to their homes.

Back at the part of the forest where the fruits that Robus liked to eat were abundant, Blake jumped off Robus’ back and said goodbye to the demonic beast that also went back to its own territory.

Just like how the huge crow and the imposing komodo dragon had their own territory where they hunt their food, Robus, being one of such creatures that held as much, or even more power than those two beasts, of course, had his own territory.

And not so surprisingly, his territory was the part where the fruits that he and the boars liked to eat very much were abundant in amount, incomparable to the other parts of the forest that they had been through so far.

And as there might be intruders who go into his territory when he went on his journey with Blake, Robus left quickly after saying his goodbyes to Blake and did a sweep of his territory.

Blake then took out the clock that Vera gave him and saw that it was about 11 at night.

He was quite disappointed that he couldn’t cook Vera dinner today as it was already way past the usual time that he returned back home.

But he had already told Vera that he might be back later than usual today since he and Robus would be fighting those strong creatures that lived quite far away from home, so she didn’t have to worry about him.

Blake wanted to test out some spells and plan out a new original spell for the powerful single target attack spell, but seeing that it was supposedly nighttime even though there was no nighttime or daytime with the red sun hanging still in the sky above.

Blake decided to get a good night’s sleep first to rest his mind as he knew that he would be racking his brain starting from tomorrow morning.
