Falling For My Cruel Mate -
Chapter 10
"Who are you?" I ask cautiously as I continue my way down the stairs. I stand on the last step, just in case he turned out to be completely crazy and I had to run back up the stairs.
"Octavia? You're awake?" He sends a large smile my way and places the box by the door.
"H-how do you know my name?" I stutter over my words as I'm a little taken back. Who is this man? Why does he know me?
"Don't worry sweetie, I'm not gunna hurt you. I'm here for the exact opposite reason actually." He smiles a little bit and runs his hand through his dark chocolate brown locks.
"Where's the box?" His voice shocked me and caused me to jump out of my skin a little. I turn back to look at him and he stood on the stair case a few steps above
me.
"She seems a little jumpy," The mystery man stated, ignoring Ajax's question. "Is everything going okay?"
Ajax cleared his throat and made his way down the steps. I shy away from him when he passes by me and watch as he whispers to his friend. It wasn't until a few minutes later that I realized I could easily tune into the conversation with my wolf hearing.
"They were asking a lot of questions about her."
"What kind of questions?"
"If she was in good health. If they could possibly visit her."
Ajax huffs out in anger. "And her parents sealed the box before you arrived this time?"
"Yes."
"My parents?" I ask stepping down from staircase. I bite my lip once I realize I wasn't supposed to hear that. They were talking in private.
Ajax turns around to face me. His normally ocean blue eyes were a few shades darker. "Yes your stupid fucking parents. Didn't they ever teach you that ease dropping is rude?"
I flinch at his tone and bow my head in submission. Cipher was no longer around and the mystery man seems loyal to Ajax and would never say anything about him hitting me to Alexander. He doesn't know that there will be consequences. So I stay silent and wait for Ajax to turn around.
But he doesn't. He continues to stare at me. I can feel his eyes on me, moving up and down my body. "Come here ugly duckling." He teases.
I swallow the lump in my throat and lift my head up and walk over to him. I'm staring straight at his broad and muscular chest. "Why are you down here in the first place?"
"You-You instructed me to get something to eat and then go to bed. I-I haven't eaten anything since breakfast."
He sighs heavily and steps aside and points the kitchen. "Christina dropped off some food for you, said it was your favorite."
I nod my head silently and head into the kitchen. Every part of my body wanted to stay and see what was in the box, but I knew things would get ugly if I didn't listen to him.
There was a large baking pan on the stove covered in tin foil. I grabbed a plate and glass and began to serve myself some chicken broccoli Alfredo. I poured my self some water and leaned against the counter nearest to the door.
"The was the last trip, understood?" Ajax spoke amongst the sounds of the box opening,
"But she still has m-"
"I said it was the last!" He roared and slammed his hand down on the table causing me jump and drop my fork. The utensil made lots of noise as it met the ground, meaning the attention was now on me.
I picked up the fork and listened quietly. I half expected one of them to come over and see what the noise was all about. Instead Ajax spoke loud and clear. "Octavia, come in here."
I toss the fork into the sink before grabbing a new one. I slowly walked into the room, scared that I might get in trouble. I watched Ajax as he folded up a piece of paper and shoved it in his pocket. The box on the table was open but I couldn't really see inside of it because he was standing in the way.
"This is Samuel." He gestures over to the man who had brought in the box. "He's is my second in command, the Beta. If I am not available at any point in time you answer to him."
Answer to him? I am an Alpha. I won't answer to a Beta. I glance over at Samuel and give him a small smile before turning my attention back over to Ajax. "I will refer to him, not answer." I state clearly. Now that his father has made it clear that he can't harm me, I will speak up.
Ajax takes a threatening step forward and no matter how much I wanted to step away, I stand my ground. "Excuse me?"
"I am the first born daughter to Octavius, Alpha of the SnowMoon pack. I will not answer to a Beta. I am a higher rank than him and equal to you." As the words slip through my angrily clenched teeth I take step forward closing the space between us. I look up into his ocean blue eyes and found nothing but anger and a bit of pride.
"We will finish this discussion tomorrow, little girl. Take your things and finish eating upstairs." He demanded, a cool tone to his voice. I stare him dead in the eye for about a minute before stepping away.
He follows behind me with the box of my belongings as I carry my food up the stairs and to my bedroom. He clears his throat behind me just before we reach the top of the stairs. I look back at him curious as to why he's making such a noise, but he simply moves around me and continues the small journey to my room.
I begin to eat and walk, I was starved and the smell of this dish was making my stomach rumble. When I reach my room he emerges from the closet without the box.
"Okay, go to sleep. I'm sure Cipher will be here bright and early to bother you about goddess knows what." He says and jokingly rolls his eyes at the mention of Cipher's name.
A small giggle slips through my lips but I try to cover it up quickly. I didn't want to laugh and be carefree with him. He's basically my kidnapper. He tore me away from my friends and family.
