Falling For My Cruel Mate -
Chapter 64
"I thought that it was a sign." She says as she begins to shiver violently. I pull her closer to me wrapping my arm around her. She lays her head on my soaking wet chest. I need to get her back home.
"A sign of what?" I ask curiously.
"That a might see my family again." She can barely get the words out before she begins to sob in my arms. She hides her face further into my chest and I could feel my heart sink into the pit of my stomach.
I swallow the lump of guilt that formed in my throat. This is really my fault. I sigh heavily and press my lips to the top of her head. I know what I must do, but I don't want too. She's mine.
"Come on, let's go home." I pick her up gently and she immediately wraps her arms and legs around me like a small child.
Why must I be so selfish?
Ajax:
November nineteenth.
"Maybe we should keep searching. I feel kind of bad just stopping." Weston says loosening his tie. We all sat in the conference room feeling agitated and stressed.
I shake my head no as I run my fingers through my hair.
"No, we've already extend the search party for too long. It was supposed to be a one day thing and it's been almost five days now." I say sternly. I don't want to waste anymore time on Siren Laurel. That all she is, a waste of time. We all know where she really is... with Jalex probably planning the murder of my mate.
My wolf stirs in anger at the thought. How could she betray someone so close to her? Does she not have a soul?
"Moving on," Sam says. "The border has been perfect lately. No one getting in or out. And the men are being refreshed and rotated evenly."
I nod my head approvingly and look over to Weston for an update on training.
"Everything has been running smoothly. No complaints from the pack and they all seem motivated. Ready to kick ass if need be."
"Good." Alexander says leaning forward in his chair.
"Okay so what are Christina and I here for then?" Cipher asks as her leg bounces up and down impatiently. I scoff and roll my eyes at her.
"There's one more thing I would like to speak to you all about." I say leaning back in my chair. My second and third in command look at me curiously. I hadn't spoken to anyone about this but I knew for a while now that I wanted to do something for my mate. I just didn't know what until recently.
"Octavia's birthday is in exactly a week from today, and I would like to throw her a party."
"What really?!" Cipher practically jumps out of her chair in excitement. This is what she basically lived for, parties and party planning. Which is strange because no one else in the family enjoyed doing such a thing.
"Yes really. I need you and Christina to talk her into this. She doesn't seem excited at all for her birthday or for anything really..." I trail off thinking of how somber my mate as been lately. She hardly speaks and just spends the majority of the day reading to the children and watching tv.
"You can count on me." Cipher says grabbing a piece of paper and beginning to scribble a bunch of things down.
"There is another thing, a surprise." Everyone looks shocked for a moment before a curious look takes over their faces.
"Okay, who are you and what have you done with Ajax?" Sam asks jokingly, causing the whole table to break out into smiles and a small laugh.
"I'm being serious guys." I roll my eyes in a playful manner.
"What's the surprise?" Alexander asks, his interest clearly peeked.
"Well I'm glad you asked because I'm going to need your help specifically..."
"You're killing us, with the suspense just spit it out." Cipher groans.
"Yeah." Everyone else agrees in unison.
"I want to reach out to her family and invite them over for her birthday." I breathe out and sit up straight. Ciphers jaw drops and I swear I saw Sam pinch himself. Why are the people around me so weird? They always complain that I'm too much of an ass and now when I want to do something nice they don't believe me.
"Don't you hate her father?" Weston asks, a stupid look passes over his face before one of confusion takes its place.
"Yes, but Octavia loves her father and the rest of her family. This is exactly what she needs right now."
"I one hundred percent agree." Christina nods her head along with Alexander.
"I need you to help me make the call because I'm sure I'm the last person they ever want to speak to." I turn towards Alexander. He was the key to all of this. He has a way with people that I've never really been able to understand.
"Of course, we'll make the call later today."
"Thank you. Okay, that's all for today's meeting."
I watch as everyone beside Alexander exits the room. I loosen my tie and pull it off
of my neck. I hate that stupid thing.
"I'm glad you're doing this. We can't have any tension between other packs. Not while Jalex is still around at least." Alexander turns to me a small smile on his face.
"I'm not doing this because of Jalex or because tensions are high. I'm doing this because Octavia needs this. She misses them but she won't asks to see them because she thinks I'll say no."
I'll admit that I'm scared. She might see them and remember how much she hates me all over again. What if they try to take her away from me? Will I wake up in the middle of the night to replace that she's gone along with her family? I'm selfish and I want her all to myself, but I also want her to be happy.
"Okay, well let's head over to my office and make the call to Octavius."
I haven't been to Alexander's and Christina's home since the day Octavia woke up from her short coma. I could still remember the way she stood up to me. I was so angry with her. All I could see was red. It was like she wasn't my mate or even a person. She was just revenge.
