Falling For My Cruel Mate -
Chapter 70
"Crowley, give me a hand and dig in the same spot the vomit was." Marcus takes
a few steps back and allows the wolf to begin digging. Taking a few steps closer, I take a peek at the scene in front of me. The wind was blowing once more, lifting away some of the dirt and the repulsive smell that lingered around us.
Crowley takes a moment, his digging stopped abruptly, and begins sniffing vigorously.
"Did you replace something?" Marcus asks.
The wolf digs his snout further into the hole before digging up a baby pink blouse, a blanket, and a few other garments of clothing. The scent was familiar, too familiar. It smelled like home, obviously mixed in with dirt and some vomit. But it mainly reminded me of home... which could only mean one thing.
"Siren." I whisper. I press my lips together as a somber feeling takes over my heart. It weighs heavy but I try to shake away the feeling. She betrayed me. She's run off with Jalex. She must've shifted here that night and vomited purposely on her clothes so no one would replace them.
Marcus wears a blank expression as his eyes dull over. Mind link. He must be talking to my mate. Ajax's suspicions were true. Siren is working with Jalex, and there's probably a mole in the pack. Someone had to have helped her escaped the territory. But who would do such a thing?
"The Alpha is on his way. You can leave the items with us and return to your post on the border. Thank you for your help Crowley."
The wolf nods his large furry head at Marcus before bowing to me. He leaves rather quickly in the direction we came from.
If we don't figure out who the mole is soon, then we could all be in danger tomorrow. Theres no better time to strike than at a party where everyone is off guard and having fun. Maybe I could use that to try and convince Cipher to cancel it. I didn't even want that party in the first place.
I finally heave the sigh I was holding in. I can't even get one day of peace and quiet. Of course this had to happened. I trusted that girl with my life and she's ready to hand it over to a revengeful Alpha I don't even know. I just want to go home. My real home in the SnowMoon pack. I miss everyone there with my whole heart. I guess you never really know how good you've got it until its gone.
I move over to a nearby tree and take a seat near the trunk. I lean my back against the rough bark and look up at the red, orange and yellow leaves that remained attached to the branches. The majority of the trees around this one were completely naked and bare, ready for the winter snow to coat them. No one here is ready for winter. Along with snow it brings us a horrible fate. Jalex. Although I had faith in Ajax, I knew this battle would cost some of our people their lives.
Guilt overcame me. None of this is my fault, but I feel responsible. I wanted nothing more to clean up this mess and ensure the safety of this pack and everyone in it.
"Alpha." Marcus says causing me to shift my gaze over to him. Ajax approaches him in a small jog, shirtless and in a pair of jeans that hung low on his hips and also barefoot. I shake my head in disapproval as Marcus bows his head in respect.
"Where is it?" Ajax asks, his eyes drift over to me monetarily before focusing back on Marcus.
I stand from my place underneath the tree as Marcus points to the pile of clothes that remained in the hole Crowley dug up.
"It's cold outside." I say as approach my bare chested mate.
A small smile takes over his lips, his oceans meeting my forest. "I don't get cold, ducky."
I roll my eyes at him for the third time today. He ignores my actions and takes a step towards the small hole in the ground. He crouches down and lifts up the pink blouse carefully, grasping it between his pointer finger and thumb. He brings it close to his face and takes a whiff of it. A frown etches itself in his face. He tosses it back into the hole and stands back up.
"Cover up the hole as best as possible, dirt and leaves. Make it look untouched. If the bitch comes back and checks this area we want to make it seem as though we didn't replace it."
"How would she even get back in? The territory line is guarded well." Marcus' eyebrows furrow together in confusion.
"The same way she got out... with help from someone on the inside." Ajax's facial expressions remained blank, but I could see in his eyes that he was hurt to even say such a thing aloud.
"Someone on the inside?!" Marcus was both appalled and confused now. We were all wearing a frown on our faces at Ajax's words.
Ajax ignores him, no longer wanting to speak of the subject. Instead he turns to me and says, "No more walking. If you want fresh air then open a fucking window at home. Let's go."
His voice was taught with anger and I didn't bother fighting back. There was no choice but to believe that someone in this pack has betrayed us now, and I could only imagine how he was feeling. I trail after him quickly as we leave Marcus to take care of the clothes. I hope that bitch never replaces the balls to come back with that jackass Jalex. If she does, for some stupid reason, replace the courage to show her face here ever again... I'll tear her throat out myself.
Ajax is more calm once we reach the house, thankfully. I close the door behind us and lock it, feeling a bit paranoid.
"Ducky, I'm sorry for being rude back there. I... I just need to keep you safe. I cant even bear the thought of you getting hurt, especially because of me." His voice was strained as his face tightens at the thought of me in harms way runs through his mind.
"Shhh, its alright. Nothing bad is going to happen to me. I'm right here, okay?" I hush him quickly, not wanting him to dwell on the negatives. My feet move unconsciously getting close to him and my hands caress his face, my thumb brushing along the top of his cheekbones. His large hand covers mine as he leans in closer to me.
