Chapter 42: Invited to a Party
Jian Yuncheng was indeed the most gifted in terms of business and economics of the younger generation.
Grandpa Jian felt that Yuncheng was similar to how he was back in the days.
Seeing this happen in front of her made He Yan feel incredibly uncomfortable. Her heart was in a spectacular mess.
Apparently, Grandpa Jian never meant any of the things he said usually. He always said that it was more important for the children to do what they enjoy. However, in the end, he still favored Jian Yuncheng the most?
After Grandpa Jian and Master Sheng talked for some time, Yu Xi spoke, “Grandpa Jian, we’re hosting a party at our house this Saturday. It’s a welcoming party for Master Sheng. I want to invite Yujie and Yiling to come and attend. Is that okay with you?”
The Yu Residence was right next door. Saturday was also a day for rest and there were no classes either. How would it possibly be inconvenient?
Grandpa Jian turned towards his two grandchildren and said, “Go attend if you want to. Studying every single day is not good for you. It is good to take a break and relax occasionally.”
Grandma Jian agreed to this. “Yiling, go join them. Have a good time.”
Grandma Jian knew that Jian Yiling was having a hard time recently. It would be good for her to have the chance to relax and have fun with her peers.
Even though Zhai Yunsheng appeared to be evil, it was fine.
This was because the Yu family was a long time friend of the Jian family. They were trustworthy and Yu Xi was a reliable child. As long as he was there, Grandma Jian could rest assured.
Jian Yujie didn’t want to go. When he was thinking about what excuse to use, his mother answered for him.
“What a coincidence. Yujie doesn’t have anything going on this Saturday. He can go over and accompany Yiling.”
The words that were just about to leave Jian Yujie’s mouth had to be swallowed back. He couldn’t avoid going anymore.
Jian Yujie’s expression appeared to look wounded. He couldn’t do anything against his mother’s dictatorship.
Grandma Jian sighed in her heart. On the weekends, Jian Yujie’s day was typically packed. He Yan made sure that any free time that he had would be occupied by his classes. However, today she said that he was free. And she also said that Yujie would be accompanying Yiling.
Jian Yiling noticed that Jian Yujie’s eyes appeared to look injured.
After pausing for a moment, Jian Yiling changed her mind. She initially didn’t want to go. “I can go.”
Her voice was tender and soft. However, her tone was firm and steady.
Sure enough, as soon as Jian Yiling agreed to go, Jian Yujie’s mood became much better. His eyes brightened up once again.
If he could attend the party with Yiling, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad after all.
When the others didn’t notice, Zhai Yunsheng raised the corners of his lips.
###
At the New Jian Residence.
Jian Yunnao was sitting at the dinner table. It was his first time eating with his family after he returned home.
To make Jian Yunnao feel better, the Jian family had asked Mo Shiyun to dine with them at the table.
Mo Shiyun was temporarily living at the Jian Residence with Aunt Mo. Usually, she wasn’t meant to be eating with the masters. However, because of Jian Yunnao’s situation, she was currently sitting in Jian Yiling’s spot.
“Master, Madam, I don’t think this is right? I... I should just go eat dinner with my mother.” Mo Shiyun was a little embarrassed to eat with them.
“It’s fine. Sit down. Today, you’re here as Yunnao’s friend, not as Aunt Mo’s daughter. Don’t be too cautious.”
Mo Shiyun sat down carefully when Jian Shuxing spoke. He was the head of the house and hearing his words made her feel reassured.
Jian Shuxing didn’t have much of an appetite today. He kept remembering fragments of when his daughter was packing her luggage.
He wondered if Yiling had finished dinner. Furthermore, as it was flu season, he wondered whether she brought enough warm clothes. And whether or not her studies were going smoothly.
As he thought about his daughter’s small frame, Jian Shuzhen couldn’t help but feel a bit of pain in his heart.
