Chapter 300: First leg Against Olympiacos II

Fabio Viera burst out with amazing speed to chase after the ball after he ran past the last man of the Olympiacos defense line.

The Olympiacos goalkeeper also rushed off his line, not intending to give Viera any time to get to the ball and acclimate himself to the situation, but the goalkeeper had miscalculated as Viera got to the ball and with a smooth tap of the underside of the ball, chipped the ball over the goalkeeper’s outstretched leg but under his arm and the ball flew and dropped into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Viera watched the ball go in before running down the sidelines to celebrate, pointing at Jason as he ran before jumping into a slide with a huge smile on his face.

{GOAL!!!]

{Porto!}

{We thought it would come, and Porto have delivered!}

{They have fulfilled the expectations of their fans and if they keep playing with this much optimism, Olympiacos may be in a bit of a rough patch here} the commentator shouted excitedly into the microphone, hyping up the Porto fans’ excitement in their homes as they watched the match.

The Olympiacos players looked a bit down after going behind, but they didn’t lose their composure as they retained some hope that they could equalize, after all, there was still a lot of time.

#35 minute…

After opening up the game in the eleventh minute, Porto kept applying pressure to the Olympiacos team and kept the Olympiacos team on tenterhooks, giving them little opportunity on the ball and not allowing them to create anything whenever they had possession.

The Olympiacos team however didn’t give up and kept pushing and soon a chance opened up for them on the counter as the Olympiacos left winger somehow managed to skip past Wilson Manafa and cut into the penalty box looking for a teammate to cross the ball to.

Unfortunately, the player didn’t see anyone free enough and decided to just cross the ball while hoping that his teammates could fight off the Porto defenders.

The ball flew into Porto’s penalty box and the Olympiacos players pushed against the Porto players trying to replace some space, but Porto’s defenders weren’t so easily brushed off and Chancel Mbemba got to the ball first courtesy of a powerful leap into the air and he headed the ball out of the penalty box.

However, Porto wasn’t out of danger as an Olympiacos player ran at the ball that had landed at the edge of the box and hit it with as much power as he could muster.

{He shoots!} the commentator shouted in anticipation as he watched the Olympiacos player hit the ball.

{Oh! It flew just over the bar!} The player put his hands on his head as he saw the ball fly off target.

{They’ll be gutted to miss that. It could have been their way back into this game} the commentator added as Augustin Marchesin collected a ball from one of the ball boys and prepared to take the goal kick.

#43rd minute…

{Halftime is fast approaching and neither of the two teams has managed to worry the scoreboard operator after Porto’s first goal of the game in the eleventh minute}

{Porto look happy to end the first half with a one-goal lead and will be looking to further their lead in the second hal-… Oh, what’s this, Jason’s broken away from his marker!} The commentator was giving his commentary while keeping an eye on the game when Jason suddenly did a Cruyff turn as he received a pass from Otavio, using the turn to maneuver around his marker.

After getting the ball past the marker, Jason immediately pushed the ball forward and rushed after it, cutting into Olympiacos’s 18-yard box from the left wing.

As he ran into the penalty box, Jason slowed his pace as he came face to face with an Olympiacos defender who was obstructing his path to the goal.

Not taking too much time to think, Jason did two stepovers before flicking the ball to the right to create a bit of space for a shot and he immediately followed after with a swing at the ball, sending the ball to the right side of the post.

The Olympiacos goalkeeper immediately lunged for the ball and luckily, he managed to get the tip of his fingers to the ball, deflecting it enough for it to veer off its intended path and…

*CLANG*

{Oh, it’s hit the bar and bounced back into play!}

{It’s found by Marega! Maregaaaaa!!!} the commentator shouted as he saw the ball that had bounced off the bar smashed into the back of the net by Moussa Marega.

{Porto have scored another!}

{They aren’t waiting till the second half to further their lead!}

{It’s them saying, “No better time than now!”. They have two!} The commentator continuously fired sentence after sentence, his mouth’s pace reminiscent of a Gatling gun as he commented at high pace and intensity while the Porto team celebrated their goal.

#62nd minute…

After scoring their second goal just before halftime, Porto had finished the first half on a high note and enjoyed their halftime break before coming out again for the second half with their objective unchanged.

They planned to win and to do so spectacularly, much to the bad luck of the Olympiacos team.

Thus they resumed the match on a high note and began putting pressure on the Olympiacos team at every opportunity they had, bringing much discomfort to the Olympiacos team which was still hoping to gain something from the game.

The Olympiacos team managed to get the occasional shot away, trying to replace something to sustain themselves in this game, but so far they had not succeeded in doing much more than troubling the goalkeeper.

Augustin Marchesin still had his clean sheet intact and was on the route to getting his first clean sheet for the 2020/21 Champions League.

Currently, Porto had a corner kick after Mehdi Taremi had sent a powerful shot at the Olympiacos goal, but was obstructed from adding to his season’s goal tally by the Olympiacos’ goalkeeper.

Jason stood over the ball on the left corner of the Olympiacos half of the field while raising his hand to signal to his teammates just like they had done so many times in training.

It was a practiced routine they had worked on in training and at the referee’s whistle Jason sent the ball flying into the penalty box and the players of the Porto team rose into the air as soon as the ball got close enough.
