Adelaide was on the phone, trying to cajole someone on the other end.

She wasn't sure what they said, but her face didn't look too pleased. Yet, her tone was almost pleading, "Parker, you have nothing to worry about. I won't owe you a penny. We've known each other for so long, do you really think I'd skip out on a debt? Just give me some time. If I can't come up with the money, I'll pay you back with myself, how about that?"

After hanging up, Adelaide scoffed disdainfully.

If she had anyone else to turn to, she wouldn't have spent her time trying to appease an older man like Parker.

While waiting for the person she had called to arrive, she kept her eyes fixed on the building ahead.

It was the penthouse of one of the buildings in Southshore Estates.

Brian had taken a nap and then woke up.

He felt like hunger was what had pulled him from sleep.

Anyone would feel off after a day of instant noodles, especially someone who was used to having meals planned out by a personal nutritionist.

Awake and desperate for something decent to eat, Brian checked the fridge. It had some vegetables and meat, but he didn't know the first thing about cooking.

The food was what they had bought when they initially holed up here.

Matthew was the one who could cook, and the plan had been for him to handle meals.

But now that Matthew was gone, Brian could only stare helplessly at the ingredients.

After a moment's thought, he headed toward the room that had been shut all day.

He had worked so hard to protect Morwenna; the least she could do was make him a meal, right?

Absolutely, she should!

Morwenna was used to tough times and could handle a bit of hunger, but Brian couldn't!

With that thought, Brian knocked on Morwenna's door.

No answer after a couple of knocks. He knocked again - still nothing.

Frustration surged through him, and

He stopped mid-sentence.

Morwenna wasn't sulking in her room. She was unconscious on the floor.

Brian's expression changed immediately as he rushed to her side, panicking, "Morwenna, what's wrong?"

He shook her gently and tried pressing a pressure point, but Morwenna remained unresponsive.

If it weren't for her steady breathing, Brian might have been in a full-blown panic.

There was no time to worry about propriety now. He lifted Morwenna and carried her towards the door. But then he halted, thinking aloud, "I can't just walk out with her. Phineas might intercept us before we even reach the hospital." swnovel

Unsure of Morwenna's condition, his mind was racing.

He was used to scheming against others, not rescuing them.

Suddenly, Brian remembered a friend from their social circle. Besides Fletcher, there was another acquaintance who was a doctor and might be able to help.

Without wasting any more time, Brian contacted this friend.

As Morwenna lay unconscious, Brian paced anxiously, his worry almost tangible.

It felt like an eternity, but finally, he received a message that the friend had arrived.

He had instructed them to wait in the neighboring complex, not wanting to risk exposure by bringing them directly to their location.

After gearing up cautiously, he prepared to fetch the friend.

Glancing back at Morwenna, he hesitated, uneasy about leaving her alone, but he had no other choice.n a soft voice, he assured her, "Just rest here. I'm going to get the doctor and will be right back. Morwenna, listen, if anything happens to you, I'm in deep trouble!" swnovel

He didn't particularly like Morwenna, but she was Stuart's wife.

Given the responsibility of looking after her, he had to make sure nothing happened to her.
