How the Ice King Became my Doting Billionaire Husband -
Chapter 483
At that moment, Morwenna lay helplessly on the bed, devoid of any strength to resist. As Adelaide approached the bedside, a gunshot rang out, shattering the window glass, and the bullet struck the ground near Adelaide's feet.
Startled, Adelaide recoiled from her advance. Stuart's sniper, positioned strategically, had come into play. Meanwhile, Stuart's and Phineas's forces clashed fiercely, both sides evenly matched and well-prepared. Even Stuart and his team found themselves hindered, unable to spare anyone to attend to Morwenna.
Though Morwenna lay defenseless, as vulnerable as a child, no one could approach her due to the presence of the sniper. Mustering what little strength she had, Morwenna propped herself up and slowly got out of bed. She swayed a bit but eventually managed to stand firm.
Amidst the chaos, Stuart fought with ruthless determination, his voice gentle as he called out, "Morwenna, come to me." Everyone else was engaged in the skirmish, but under the sniper's cover, Morwenna could move freely. If she could just reach Stuart, she would be safe.
Phineas was beside himself with worry. In her desperation, Adelaide made
another attempt to seize Morwenna, but each of her movements was met with a warning shot from the sniper, forcing her to retreat, cursing vehemently from the sidelines.
"Morwenna, you wretch!" Adelaide spat venomously. "You brought Norbert to his grave, and Stuart is just deceiving you. Why haven't you just died already? Are you so desperate for a man that you'd go to someone who's lying to you?"
Her words seemed to pierce Morwenna, her expression becoming even more dazed and filled with a profound sorrow at the mention of Norbert. Stuart's heart ached at the sight, too preoccupied with the fight to silence Adelaide.
He tried to comfort Morwenna, his voice tender, "Morwenna, don't listen to her. Come over to me."
Hearing the familiar term of endearment, "Morwenna," Morwenna frowned. She glanced at Stuart, her gaze shifting away as if he were just a distant stranger, someone who warranted only a fleeting look.
The sight made Stuart's heart clench painfully. Fletcher couldn't hold back any longer, urging, "Morwenna, come over here, to us."
Brian, frustrated, shouted, "Morwenna, Stuart came to rescue you, injured and all, and we're all fighting for you. What are you daydreaming about? Get over here!"
Even as he fought, Fletcher kicked Brian to the side, dragging him back slightly. He feared that if he didn't, Stuart, in his rage, might lash out at Brian.
Yet Morwenna stood still, seemingly detached from the turmoil around her, indifferent to the commotion and the judgments cast her way. Her once vibrant spirit had withered with Norbert's death.
Stuart, his focus entirely on Morwenna, felt as though he was suffocating from the weight of her despair—a despair he knew he was partly responsible for.
Adelaide, witnessing the scene, erupted into laughter. "Ha! Stuart, look at this! Morwenna doesn't want to come to you. She doesn't love you!"
Stuart ignored her, his eyes fixed on Morwenna as he declared earnestly, "Whether she loves me or not, it doesn't matter to me."
