41 That’s the Truth

After General Manager Qin left, Shen Dalang hurriedly welcomed the two of them into the shop.

He first poured a cup of sugar water and handed it to Zhao Lanhua. Then, he looked at Ji Zhao with a complicated gaze.

“Third Sister-in-law, you’re too...” Shen Dalang could not help but frown. “You’re too impulsive!”

“Brother, can I try the mung bean cake?” Ji Zhao smiled and asked obediently.

“Third Sister-in-law, you...”

“Dalang,” Zhao Lanhua suddenly said, “Ah Tao has already made a bet with General Manager Qin. There’s no need to dwell on this matter further. What kind of pastries does the old lady of the Qin family like?”

Shen Dalang had no choice but to suppress the emotions in his heart. He frowned and said, “That old lady of the Qin family loves mung bean cake the most. However, the doctor said that she shouldn’t eat too much sweet food, so every time General Manager Qin comes to the shop to buy pastries, he will specially ask us to put less sugar.”

“A few days ago, that old lady suddenly wanted to eat mung bean cake, so I asked the shop’s chef to make some. We even specially reduced the amount of sugar by half. In the end, General Manager Qin still complained that the pastry was too sweet.”

“Big Brother, can you let me try the mung bean cake that General Manager Qin tried just now?” Ji Zhao thought about it carefully and already had a plan in mind.

Shen Dalang nodded slightly and brought the plate of mung bean cake to her.

Ji Zhao quickly picked up a piece of pastry and tasted it carefully.

“It’s fragrant, glutinous, and delicious. It’s fragrant in your mouth, and the sweetness has been lowered.” Ji Zhao smiled and said sincerely, “If you reduce the amount of sugar, I’m afraid the taste will be even worse.”

“That’s true.” Shen Dalang immediately nodded like a chick pecking at rice. “If we reduce the amount of sugar, it will taste dull.”

“Big Brother, can I borrow the kitchen here? I want to make a pastry.” Ji Zhao pondered for a while and finally made a decision.

“... Okay!”

Ji Zhao walked into the kitchen of the Shen family’s pastry shop. The kitchen was not big, but there was complete set of tools inside.

After wiping her hands, she found some mung beans that had been soaked last night.

“Ah Tao, what pastries are you making? Do you need my help?” Zhao Lanhua asked softly when she saw her confident expression.

“Mother, I do actually need your help with something!”

“Tell me!”

“Could I trouble Mother to sit here and have a good rest?” Ji Zhao helped her sit on a small stool nearby and said happily.

Fifteen minutes later, Ji Zhao began to work.

She first boiled all the soaked mung beans and added glutinous rice flour.

Unfortunately, there was no condensed milk here. Otherwise, the pastry she was making would be even more delicious.

But she thought of something else. She cracked three eggs. The egg whites and yolks were all separated.

In order to be safe, she planned to make two different types of pastries to be prepared.

When the mung beans were completely boiled into paste, she only added half a spoonful of sugar.

“Third Sister-in-law, if you only add this little bit of sugar, will it be tasteless?”

Shen Dalang, who had been silent, could not help but ask the question in his heart.

“Big Brother, don’t worry. It won’t be tasteless!” Ji Zhao smiled confidently, but her hands didn’t stop moving.

She kept beating the egg whites until it turned milky white.

Ji Zhao finally finished making the pastries she wanted.

“Mother, why don’t you try one?”
