I'm Not The Drama God -
Vol. 1 - Ch. 18 - Divine Path
The crowd shook their heads.
"The difference between enforcers and enforcer officers may seem like just one word, but it's like the difference between heaven and earth... It's not just a difference in title, but a difference in power. Enforcers are just ordinary people with enforcement authority, while enforcer officers... have their own divine path."
"Rumor has it that before the Great Cataclysm, there were a total of eighteen divine paths in the world, each different. But with the passage of time and the decline of civilization, only fourteen of the eighteen divine paths remain."
"These fourteen paths are..."
"It is said that each divine path leads to a 'divine position'. If one completes all of them, they can transcend the mortal world and become immortal.."
"And the divine paths wielded by the enforcers of our Aurora Domain are the 'Warrior Divine Path.'"
"According to the regulations of the Aurora City enforcers, every enforcer can qualify to enter the 'Ancient Arsenal of Warfare' after three years of being official. If they pass the trials in the 'Ancient Arsenal', they have the chance to be chosen by the 'Warrior Divine Path' and officially embark on this divine path."
"Once on the divine path, Aurora City will change your identity from an enforcer to an enforcer officer."
After hearing Han Meng's explanation, the eyes of the crowd lit up...
Completing the divine path allows one to ascend to godhood! This was incredibly attractive to a group of just-turned-adults!
In Chen Ling's mind, the scene of the battle between the red paper monster and Han Meng from last night automatically emerged... Han Meng seemed to have opened up some kind of mysterious realm, and then became exceptionally fierce. Was that the power of the "Warrior Divine Path"?
"Excuse me, does one only obtain the divine path by entering the 'Ancient Arsenal'?" someone cautiously asked from the crowd.
"In theory, no," Han Meng shook his head. "The key to stepping onto the divine path lies in gaining the recognition of the 'Divine Path'. If you have a strong talent in a certain divine path, or if the divine path believes that you are destined to walk that path, then it will naturally guide you... We call such people 'Divine Attendants.'"
"I once saw a young man from the Southern Sea Domain. At the age of three, he began to draw, self-taught. At the age of five, he casually drew a picture of the 'Hundred Boats Competing in Flowing Water' with white porridge on the ground and gained the favor of the 'Blue Divine Path', becoming the youngest divine path holder in history."
The whole room was in an uproar.
"But those chosen by the divine path are extremely rare. The vast majority of people who want to walk the divine path can only rely on entering the 'Ancient Arsenal'... Of course, not all Ancient Arsenals are within the scope of the human domain. Some of them are located at the intersection of the Gray Zone and reality, making it extremely difficult for ordinary humans to reach."
"This also means that very few people can enter and pass the trials. If you want to walk these divine paths, you can only rely on the route of 'Divine Attendants'. Therefore, these divine paths have very few practitioners."
"For example, the Yellow Divine Path, the Play Divine Path, the Thief Divine Path, and the Courtesan Divine Path."
"In short, these fourteen divine paths are the only extraordinary paths recognized by the human domain. In the Aurora Domain, the vast majority of people's choices are only the 'Warrior Divine Path.'"
"The only ones recognized by the human domain?" Chen Ling asked, "So, are there paths that are not recognized?"
Han Meng glanced at him, remained silent for a moment, then answered:
"There are... and quite a few. For example, the 'Integration Faction' that attempts to abandon human identity and voluntarily merge with the calamity; the cultists who worship the Heavenly Cataclysm Red Star, the 'Crimson Heaven Sect'... But you must never touch these paths. Once someone walks on these paths, the only outcome is to be wanted by all of the human domain, and then...extermination."
Upon hearing the phrase 'extermination', Chen Ling's heart skipped a beat.
If he wasn't mistaken, the "audience" within him should be a "calamity". Would he be considered as the first group, synonymous to a mergee?
Chen Ling didn't know, and he didn’t dare ask. He suddenly felt that his previous decision not to seek help from the enforcers was the right one... If he was truly considered a mergee, the enforcers' first reaction upon learning of this would likely be to eliminate him along with the calamity within him.
Looking at the solemn group of enforcers not far away, sweat began to seep from Chen Ling's palms...
【Audience Expectation +10 】
【Current Expectation Value: 33%】
Two lines of characters flashed before Chen Ling's eyes in the void, and he couldn't help but curse the "audience" in his heart for being perverse. Their joy was completely built on his life and death crisis.
But despite the tension, Chen Ling wasn't so afraid. After all, even Han Meng probably wouldn't expect that there would be a merger who not only didn't run away when encountering enforcers but actively tried to integrate into them.
"Could factions like the Integration Faction and the Crimson Heaven Sect possibly master the divine path?" someone asked again.
"Almost impossible," Han Meng said lightly, "No divine path would grant divine favor to creatures embracing evil."
A hint of disappointment flickered in Chen Ling's eyes.
As a transmigrator, he naturally hoped to have powers beyond the mundane. To be honest, when they talked about the divine paths just now, he was also tempted... But if he was truly a merger, this path would be closed to him.
"Next, someone will assign tasks to each of you. Whether you can stay after three days, depends on yourselves," Han Meng said calmly, finishing with this sentence before leaving.
The crowd began to discuss again.
Then, several enforcers stepped forward to announce the tasks for each person.
"Jiang Lipeng, Nie Yining, assist in patrolling the Cold Cloud Street in Zone Three; Deng Feiliang, Gong Heng, assist in patrolling the Cold Snow Street in Zone Three..."
Everyone present was a reserve member, lacking the ability to patrol alone, so they could only assist formal enforcers in handling some trivial matters. Initially, the assignments were manageable, but as it went on, the assigned streets became more remote, and towards the end, there were even personnel assigned to support Zone Two.
"Wu Youdong, Chen Ling, assist in patrolling the Ice Spring Street in Zone Two..."
Hearing his name mentioned in Zone Two, Chen Ling was slightly stunned. He clearly remembered that no one had gone to patrol the Cold Frost Street in Zone Three, and he himself lived on that street. Why was he being sent to Zone Two?
Although Zone Three and Zone Two were not far apart, commuting every day would still take at least four hours... In this way, wouldn't all his time be squeezed out?
"The assessment begins today. Everyone has three hours to prepare to return home," the enforcers announced. "You must be on duty in three hours."
After the enforcers finished reading the list, they dismissed the crowd. Chen Ling vaguely felt that something was wrong, but he couldn't pinpoint it.
"Brother, are you Chen Ling?" A slender young man cautiously approached Chen Ling.
"Are you..."
“I'm Wu Youdong, here to support Zone Two with you.”
"Oh, hello."
Wu Youdong looked around, lowered his voice, and asked, "Did you bribe them?"
"Bribe them?" Chen Ling was puzzled.
"I mean the guy who just read the list, called Ma Zhong, the enforcer... He's in charge of personnel transfers. Where we go and what we do, it's all up to him." Wu Youdong sighed when he saw Chen Ling's reaction. "Judging by your reaction, I guess you didn't... No wonder we're in the worst situation."
Upon hearing this, Chen Ling finally understood.
He suddenly remembered the words of the man pulling the yellow carriage on the way here... "No money, no enforcer?"
"It seems that enforcers aren't any good either," Chen Ling thought sarcastically.
Even the street hustlers knew what kind of people the enforcers were, which was enough to illustrate the internal problems of this organization and how serious they were.
"Where do you live?"
"On Cold Frost Street, No. 128."
"Coincidentally, I also live on Cold Frost Street, but at the other end."
"Well, it seems we're in the same boat. When we go to Zone Two, we can help each other out." After chatting briefly with Chen Ling, Wu Youdong hurried home to pack.
Finally leaving the headquarters, as soon as Chen Ling stepped out, a cold voice sounded from beside the door.
"Stop."
Chen Ling paused, turning slowly to see Han Meng leaning against the wall. A cigarette hung from his mouth, and his eyes stared at him as if they were venomous snakes.
"You're Chen Ling?”
