Chapter 36
-The person he loved was on the ground dripping with b***d and he pushed her body with what little strength he had left. “This was a mistake, please save yourself,” a gulp of b***d choked him, and then his eyes rolled back in his head and he fell lifeless.
A painful throbbing ran through her at the loss. No, he couldn’t be dead.
The sound of three black-clad men became audible and she spun around showing her fangs and uncontained rage. She lunged at them, tackling them, reaching for the throat of the first and tearing him apart on the spot. But it was not enough. Nothing could quell the throbbing pain in his chest.
She looked at the other man running towards her and lunged at him. Within seconds of reaching the tender skin of her neck something pierced the side of her torso sending her crashing to the ground three feet away.
She g*****d at the arrow wound. She tried to turn to remove it with her mouth, but that only made it bury you deeper against her ribs.
His paws moved awkwardly, not allowing him to straighten up. He couldn’t just stand there, he still had things to do and there was b***d left to run. Her view was blocked by one of the men who tapped her nose making her dizzy as a chain was placed around her neck.
-All right, we got her.” That voice. I just needed an excuse and a chance to get my hands on her kind and thanks to your dear lover it was possible.
I couldn’t believe it. They had taken advantage of the full moon ceremony where all the females gathered to give blessings for a prosperous fertility, to attack them. He could see in the distance, amidst a strange smoke that dazed part of his senses and made them weaker, how hundreds of men dragged the bodies of several she-wolves while the males who had been the guards were disembowelled by tearing their skin off.
If this continued, their entire species would be doomed. The males were miles away, as part of the rule of the ceremony, no matter how much they hurried they would not make it in time.
A kick slammed into his nose again and he g*****d again as he felt the b***d clog his nose.
-He had been waiting for this opportunity for a long time to take revenge on his kind,” she said.
Revenge, that word that could destroy a nation and bring hundreds of lives to the grave.
She looked up with difficulty. The hatred that coursed through her was fuelled by the pain in her whole body. So many years lived and to fall so low in despair. She hated him. She hated her lover. She hated herself for being so inept.
The man before her smiled and pulled a syringe from his pocket and buried it in her neck.
-Sweet dreams, my best specimen, I assure you, we will be together for many years to come.
Alisha’s eyes snapped open. Breathing stopped and sweat was running down her naked body.
Beside her, Cristián was frowning, opening his eyes little by little.
He sat up in bed covering himself with the sheet and brushing his hair out of his face with an uncontained gasp.
-A bad dream,” her partner copied her and wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her in and kissing her temple, “Everything alright?
She denied, a worried expression appeared on the beta’s face.
-I dreamt it again. What happened with them?
-Them?” she left against his cheek.
-The females of the packs. The she-wolf inside me, I suspected she had something to do with it. But it was because of her,” he swallowed hard and recounted the dream without avoiding details.
Cristián pinched his jaw.
-This will be a bombshell when Alisha comes out,” he looked doubtful. “I don’t know how the council will react and even more so when it comes out that your father is the one who had something to do with it, that even now I’m breaking my mind about how you’re here almost 200 years after his existence.
-You’re not the only one, my head hurts and I can’t replace answers, the gaps are still too big.
-Tomorrow I’ll ask Louva to prepare some of his concoctions for you so you can sleep more peacefully.
-Thank you, though I think Serguei should know for the moment.
He stroked the edge of her h*p and hugged her. It’s four o’clock in the morning, as soon as the sun rises we’ll tell him, he must be in his tenth sleep by now.
She nodded and let herself be carried in his arms even if she couldn’t fall asleep for the rest of the night, but she couldn’t deny it, the wolf’s embrace was more comforting than she imagined, she should have tried it before.
In the morning she was more than tired and her head wanted to explode with the alpha’s interrogation with questions she answered mechanically.
-Can you describe this man?
-I think so,” she remembered the face of the man who was supposed to be her father.
-That’s perfect. I’ll inform the council, we have to tell them, the consequences will be worse if they replace out from third parties.
-Cristián shifted uncomfortably next to Dakota.
-Don’t worry my beta, nothing will happen to her, I promise,” he told her as he smelled the scent of impatience in the study, “but she is a fundamental piece in this matter and the missing link in our story.
