Chapter 8

Free. For the first time in many years she felt free. No ties that condemned her to be someone or something. Also rage, excitement, euphoria, panic. Many emotions roaming around in her head, which were fading away, giving way to a wilder, more animalistic feeling.

His body was exhaling adrenaline. Running in the forest with nothing to stop her. Alisha, she wasn’t Alisha. She was simply a wolf.

Cristián was running almost breathlessly behind her trying to close the distance. He heard the howls of his companions and the alpha who were close by but gave him his space, at this moment he was the only one capable of controlling his mate.

But that would not be easy. The wolf he had become was bigger than him by several centimeters and a few extra pounds, being able to rival his alpha. Plus he had just transformed so the human part must have been so buried that if he recognized it he could clap his hands.

But first he would have to catch up with her and already that was taking some work. They had gone about two kilometers and he hadn’t lost any strength and his limbs being longer could cover distances more easily.

He g*****d internally. He would look ridiculous if he let his mate run away so easily being a male wolf and also beta of his pack.

He tensed every muscle and forced himself to speed up. He watched as the white wolf turned sharply a few meters ahead dodging some fallen logs and those seconds were the decisive ones. He buried his claws in the ground and leapt forward, landing on his partner. He tried to bury his fangs in its neck but it rolled so violently that it almost threw him away.

Christian had to do something he didn’t want to do. He dug his nails into her sides, tightening his grip as she turned her head to shake him off. By now his saliva was bubbling with rage. He knew the feeling. He knew from Serguei that alphas by nature hated submission and more so if it was physical.

In an oversight, the white wolf’s teeth reached his foreleg and he felt them pierce the thin flesh to the bone. A surge in pain ran through him but it wasn’t enough to give in. He took advantage of his position and propelling himself forward bit her neck, seeking to soothe her. For the moment that method was the only one that worked, for his output contained sedative agents.

Gradually the wolf began to relent. First he let go of his paw, which did not look good. Then he fell onto his belly and Christian held onto his healthy ones without letting go of his neck.

The wolf below whimpered and rolled over still struggling but the sedative was already working. She-wolves were always more rebellious and this was the most efficient way to control their wild side.

Only when the animal surrendered completely and closed its eyes did Cristián jumped her and expelled a gasp. His body and jaw ached from all the pressure he had to exert, but at least his mate was now safe.

The silver hair was giving way revealing his wife’s pale skin, seconds later.

He moved his nose to her neck, where the b***d was gushing, and licked to help close the wound, reveling in turn, in the taste of the thick, warm liquid. It tasted sweeter than he remembered, the explosion of flavor was overwhelming due to the sudden change. But there was something different from the first time. She knew it instinctively. That petite body hid more secrets than he could imagine. When he was pleased with the brief cleansing he returned to his human form and pain coursed through him again. The wound on his arm was just beginning to heal and looked deep. He approached Alisha and checked her neck with his fingers. He had tried to be as gentle as possible but, from the fight, she had quite damaged skin. Even with his care and with their quick healing it would take at least two days to close up. He was sure that when she woke up it was going to hurt and that, to him, was going to cost him.
