Chapter 3

Davey was worried that things such as mana, holy power, and devil mana would all vanish into thin air when he returned to this body. He was familiar with magic and its usage, but without mana, the necessary substance, it was all good for nothing. Thankfully, most of Davey’s powers were fully transferred and intact in this body.

Move

.’ The problem was that those powers were as stiff as a board, and it would be a while before Davey could use it. He knew that it would take time to loosen everything up. Channeling his strong desires, he uttered a basic holy magic spell, “Restore.”

However, there was still no change. It was about time for something to happen, even just a tiny bit, but Davey’s powers were really unnecessarily stubborn.

Move.

’ If Davey got his holy power to flow just once, it would kickstart its awakening, but it wasn’t easy. There was a saying that went ‘well begun is half done,’ and it would be a lie to say this was easy.

Well, if they insist… Davey had no choice but to act like this. The remedy to bullheadedness was to have a thick skin. With an unwavering attitude, Davey kept asking, ‘

Move.

As Davey tried to manifest his strong desires again, it felt like his hard and stiff holy power flinched ever so slightly. It was very weak, but he could never miss it. He stopped himself from scoffing before trying again. Politely, he begged the obstinate holy power. “Could you please move before I beat your ass?”

Whoosh!!! Crack!!

Davey heard something break open within him, and his eyes flew wide open. He could not let this opportunity go to waste.

“Restore!” With Davey’s fierce shout, the holy power which had only been moving weakly finally began to move. A warm, white aura started trickling out of the solid mass of holy power, and surrounded Davey’s body. He had finally succeeded in moving the holy power, so this was worthy of a celebration.

“Nice!” People would think that Davey was a lunatic talking to himself in bed, but he didn’t care. No one was around to see it anyways.

‘Restore’ was a recovery type magic spell that healed internal wounds, and it felt like a warm blanket. And since it was basic holy magic, the mechanism was rather simple, so most students who had received holy power were able to perform it.

Of course, trivializing it due to its basic nature would be a mistake. Unlike other magic, the effects of a simple holy magic spell could be amplified by enhancing the training level. This was probably why there was a difference in the spell being cast by high-ranking members of clergy and the new students.

“Blech…”

However, it had a drawback. Considering that a significant amount of strength was needed to boost the recovery process, it wasn’t all that OP. Improving the recovery process by using strength could prove fatal for a patient in a state like Davey’s. But that didn’t stop him.

Whoosh… Whoosh!

As the bright light began to subside, Davey was able to feel his legs when he could barely feel anything previously. When the light completely dulled, he was satisfied with being able to move his toes.

Toes first, ankles second, knees third… Davey started standing up. He did it at a slow pace, so as not to overdo it. Maybe he wasn’t strong enough yet; Davey desperately felt the need for something to support him, because he felt like he was going to collapse at any moment.

“Restore.” Of course, Davey wasn’t some spineless person who was going to stop here. He casted ‘Restore’ once again, thinking of it as an investment towards the future.

And now, Davey was starting to get hungry. However, he knew that increasing the dosage of his IV nutrition would only destroy his body.

The healing effects of ‘Restore’ were incredible and started showing noticeable changes. This must be how a parent would feel when their baby stood up for the first time, but in this case, it would be Davey viewing his own body.

As Davey pulled himself up using the wall, his scope of vision became much larger.

“Hm. The air sure is fresh up here.” Davey began to move slowly and gently, while muttering pointless things to himself. Then, he glanced out the window. There was no one in sight, but the sun was shining brightly in the sky, as if it was showing off its presence.

“Man, I really wanted to try this.” Talking to himself, Davey put his legs together and stood up straight. Then, he threw his hands in the air at a 45 degree angle like a Y-shape. “L…” And with devotion, he shouted, “Long live the Sun! Hurrah!”

Thud. Shatter!

Davey heard the sound of the door opening and glass shattering all at once.

“Ack!!!”

“Oh.”

What perfect timing.

Standing awkwardly, Davey slowly turned his head to see a little girl with a shocked look on her face. She seemed to be around 15 or so. If she was working as a maidservant, she was probably the daughter of a baron family located near the country border.

She looks a little young to be working as a maidservant.

It was awkward for Davey to have this thought since he was also in his mid-teens.

Perhaps, it was because of this unexpected happening that Davey’s legs went numb. As he collapsed, he saw the girl running toward him and shouting, “My… My lord! Please wake up!”

Davey couldn’t do anything, with his face flat on the ground. Embarrassing moments could only be forgotten if no one saw it, but…

‘I just want to die…’

“Hm…” As the old man gave Davey a check up, he stroked his beard with a dubious attitude. His name was Ramdas. He was part of the Royal Court, and his duties were to examine the king’s health and ensure that he didn’t fall sick. The old man added, “It is unclear why, but your body has become surprisingly healthy. Perhaps there is any pain that you have not informed me about?”

“Other than being a little tired, I’m fine.”

As Davey calmly responded, Ramdas nodded with satisfaction. Davey would never think to talk down to an old man in his past life, but it was different this time. It was not like he wanted to, but Davey knew his place very well too.

Davey O’Rowane was his given name, and he was in the Rowane Kingdom; it was an ordinary kingdom located in the eastern region of the continent. The matching names were no coincidence. Having the last name ‘O’Rowane’ in the Rowane Kingdom only meant one thing: royalty. Among them, Davey was the king’s eldest. He couldn’t bring himself to say it, but he was the firstborn son of the king.

“Huh… You’re a tough one, aren’t you?”

As he laid in bed, staring into space, Davey heard a sharp voice that stole his glance. Looking towards the source of the voice, he saw an extravagantly dressed woman with a vicious expression. Behind her were two boys who looked like they were sneering.

It was the current queen, Queen Lynesse Bariatta, and her two sons, Second Prince Carlus, and Third Prince Benedict.

“I didn’t know I would last this long, either.”

“Yes, well… Did you see the ingrate that shot you?”

“Well, the arrow came at me so out of the blue… Ah, was he caught? He did commit a serious crime, after all.”

“No.”

As Davey answered her with words meant to ruffle her feathers, Queen Lynesse spread her folding fan and covered half of her face. She was probably trying to hide her scowl.

Before becoming Queen Lynesse Bariatta, she was Lynesse Bariatta. She also happened to be the eldest daughter of Duke Bariatta.

“I have done the basic treatments, so that is all for now. You should fully recover in a few years if you regularly summon a priest for treatment. From tomorrow morning, serve Lord Davey his meals. I will send you a liquid diet plan that’s designed to go easy on the stomach,” Ramdas said.

“Yes, sir.”

“Thanks,” Davey answered indifferently.

“Then I will take my leave, my lord.” Ramdas bowed with a stern expression and left.

The maidservant followed Ramdas out, leaving Queen Lynesse, Second Prince Carlus, and Third Prince Benedict in the room with Davey. They weren’t exactly fond of each other, so there was only silence..

“It would’ve been nice if you had just died…”

“It’s a shame that the thorn in your eye came back alive, right?”

“Ha!” Queen Lynesse seemed slightly irritated by Davey’s breezy response.

Davey was a prince, but Queen Lynesse obviously had a higher status. They were also supposed to be mother and son, but everyone knew there was more to what their relationship might be on the surface.

Thud!

Without wiping the sneer on their faces, Carlus and Benedict quietly followed Queen Lynesse as she left the room. However, they left only after leaving behind nasty, provocative words.

“To think that the first prince got ambushed and then fell into a comatose state… What a national disgrace. Let’s go, Benedict.”

The room quickly became silent. It was quite sad to see someone, who had only come around after six years, to be in such a quiet room. However, Davey wasn’t fazed by it. It was like this even before he slipped into unconsciousness, anyways. And to be honest, he preferred it this way.

“National disgrace, my ass.” Smirking, Davey closed his eyes. As he started to maneuver his holy power, a warm aura enveloped his body. It didn’t matter that he was blatantly using holy magic since there was a low chance that anyone would be able to notice him using mana, devil mana, or holy power in this palace. It was similar to how it would be difficult to detect something when it was exceedingly out of one’s range.

Even though he had difficulty moving his body right now, since Davey had put all his effort into recovering his strength, he should be able to move within a few days. His holy power or his mana would also be restored quickly, since he had already kickstarted the process. Davey was certain that his recovery would accelerate.

Two weeks went by with Davey doing nothing but staying in bed. It was as if he were dead… Maybe it was because he was so focused on his recovery that he felt like time flew by so fast.
