Paragon of Death -
Chapter 8
Chapter 8: Chapter 7: Training
The next day, Damon arrived at an open field behind the Ross family castle with the sexy mage and a whole bunch of people he has never seen before within the Ross family, gathering together to watch him practice.
Not everyone was around when he awakened his magic so they didn’t know much about him but from the story going around, he is a three elements mage with immense talent that can rival that of the top nobles in the kingdom.
They all wanted to see the commoner genius for themselves and gauge his talents with their own eyes.
“You don’t seem happy?” Damon stood a few meters away from the sexy mage. He could see the disturbed look on her face.
“Call me Liana... Yes! There is a problem... All mages are sent to the capital at the age of twelve and that’s when they begin their training as mages. The entrance test is barely two months and you are already twelve... I have little time to teach you everything I know” Liana said with a disturbed look on her face.
It seemed she was scared that Damon won’t be able to meet up to standard within the two months.
Hearing this Damon realized why Daniel Ross didn’t look as cheerful as he was the previous day. If Damon fails the entrance exam it meant he would need to wait another year before joining the academy.
.....
“It is okay, just do your best and leave the rest to me” Damon shrugged his shoulders as he spoke casually.
His nonchalant attitude lead people to believe he wasn’t taking this seriously and they all believed he was underestimating the requirements needed to join the academy.
Liana frowned but didn’t complain. She simply nodded to his words before speaking.
“Mages are blessed with specific elements which grant us great power but our body limits us. As you can see, you possess immense talent but the power your body can produce is minimal because of your cultivation level” Liana said coldly.
“Right now you are at the bottom of the human realm now so your abilities are greatly limited. A human realm body simply allows you to manipulate the element to a certain level, how you use it in battle is completely reliant on your skills” Liana said as she opened her palm and a ball of fire formed.
She stretched her other hand forward and black particles began surging around her!
Damon watched closely and opened his palm, mimicking her movements.
Brrr!
A ball of fire emerged! It was the size of his small fist but it was already amazing he could replicate her actions in one move!
Swoosh!
“He wouldn’t dare...” Liana muttered as she watched Damon stretch his hand forward and just like Liana his eyes turned black and black particles began forming around him. They weren’t as fierce as that of Liana but it was still amazing!
Xiu!
A cold sweat ran down everyone’s spine as both the fire and shadow magic were on but then a small gust of wind began forming around Damon. They were his size and the two mini gusts of wind began surging around him, circling him like dogs circling their owner who just returned from work.
“This kid is a monster” Daniel Ross said in a shocked tone as a smile began blooming on his face.
“He may really make it before the time for the entrance reached” Liana said with a strange expression on her face.
Meanwhile, Damon remained silent and focused on his magic. Each element he possessed depicted the major emotions he felt. The fire showcased his anger, the shadow revealed his emptiness and the wind showed his indifference. Understanding each emotion that he felt allowed him to maximize his control over his magic.
“Something is wrong” Damon said calmly with barely open eyes. He seemed bored and disappointed.
“What’s wrong?” Liana noticed and drifted over with a confused look on her face.
“Are all human realm mages this weak? I feel exposed... like I can be killed easily” Damon said.
“I want to learn how to fight... I wish to combine fighting skills and magic... Only then can I bring out the best in this body” Damon said decisively stunning everyone.
“We don’t have time to teach you both things master Damon, you need to focus on your magic if you wish to get into the academy” Liana said with a frown.
She felt Damon was only wasting his time. She believed it would be best if he simply focused on magic just like her. By the way, mages are superior to fighters.
“No, I am sure I can learn both” Damon said decisively.
Using magic felt amazing but left him vulnerable, especially during the early stages of a mage. Damon wanted to get rid of that.
“But...” Liana wanted to refuse but Daniel Ross cut her off and approached the training ground.
“If he wishes to learn how to fight then we will teach him how to fight” Daniel said.
“Thank you” Damon said respectfully with a light bow.
Since that day while Damon took lessons on what it means to be a mage from Liana during the day, he would take fighting lessons from Daniel Ross in the evenings and he was surprised by what he found.
He once believed that fighters do not utilize mana in any form but after training with Daniel Ross for a while he realized that statement is false. While the magic circuits of fighters are blocked and faulty, making it impossible for them to use magic, skilled fighters can incorporate mana with their attacks to bring out the best in it.
He watched Daniel Ross throw casual punches but creating massive shockwaves with just his fists leaving Damon impressed. His interest in being a mage may be high but the life of a fighter was more impressive. Unfortunately, he can only focus on one.
“While mages simply get more familiar with their element we fighters have to train day and night. Unlike mages, we lack versatility in abilities and are forced to stick to one fighting style which we practice to improve power. We call these pathways... Do you wish to learn the Ross family pathway?” Daniel Ross offered.
