Chapter 184: Search Along the Route

Zhang Zian had a picture editing app on his cellphone. He tried planning out a route several times on that app and finally got a satisfying solution. He saved the map with the route.

It wasn’t a perfect route because he might not be able to search the fields on the sides, behind, or even on the roofs of the buildings. He tried. If he couldn’t replace the Elfin after going through the whole route, he would have to think of other routes. Regarding the roof, Zhang Zian guessed that it was locked because the school didn’t want students to have access to it in case they jumped off the building to commit suicide.

Galaxy was afraid of people, so it was a special example. For Fina and Old Time Tea, they had both appeared in a place where people were. They turned into Elfins due to people’s worship. Therefore, Zhang Zian thought that the next Elfin was less likely to appear in an empty classroom… unless the Elfin was also afraid of people.

After excluding some impossible places, Zhang Zian felt a lot more at ease.

“Grandpa Tea, let’s wander around. It is a great opportunity to enjoy the university,” he said to Old Time Tea.

Old Time Tea followed.

Zhang Zian followed the route he made, and walked around the office building which he hated the most. That was the last building in his plan. First, he headed to the No. 1 academic building.

The No.1 academic building was one of the original buildings when Binhai University was established. It was a three-story building with a dated look. Although it was at least 40-years old, it was very practical. It was a red brick building with vines all over the bricks. The windows were old-fashioned wood windows. It looked like it would be torn down soon because the school hadn’t done any maintenance work at all.

Pine and evergreen trees were on both sides of the door. It was very quiet.

The No. 1 academic building was closest to the gate yet farthest from the dorms. It was also the oldest building, so not many students came here to study. One could tell from the number of bicycles parked outside. Honestly, no one wanted to come here if it weren’t for class.

As he entered the building, he saw faint lights on in the hallway. It looked quite scary. The bathroom was near the door on the right-hand side. The door of the bathroom was wide open with a sign – under maintenance. A strong mixed smell of disinfectants and human waste came out from the door. It was disgusting.

Holding up his cell phone, Zhang Zian tried to search for the Elfin, but didn’t notice anything.

As he got close to a classroom, he pushed open the back door and scanned the room with his cellphone. There were a few students studying inside. Most of the seats were vacant. A few couples were doing their thing as if there were no one around.

It was quite normal nowadays anyway.

Those who could still study there had to be a real curve wrecker.

He got out of the classroom and closed the door.

Old Time Tea didn’t follow him into the classroom. It stayed in the hallway and looked around. He was happy that Old Time Tea didn’t go in, otherwise what those young kids were doing in public might be a huge disappointment to it.

Zhang Zian checked all the classrooms on the first floor using the same method. Some classrooms had class in session. He would go in, sat down in the last row, pretended he was late, and left after confirming there was no Elfin in the room. He didn’t have time to care about the teacher’s feelings.

The first floor was done. So were the second and third floor.

He confirmed the Elfin was not in No. 1 academic building.

He checked the time. It took him roughly half an hour.

There were seven more building. He had to hurry up.

According to his plan, the No. 4 academic building would be the next one.

The No.4 academic building was much newer than No.1 building. Unlike the No.1 building which was dark and old, the No. 4 building was well maintained, clean and modern.

After searching for a while, he confirmed that the Elfin was not in the No.4 building either.

“Grandpa Tea, want to take a break?” Zhang Zian asked after getting out of the No. 4 building.

“I am fine. I am not tired.” Old Time Tea was energetic. It was happy looking at the kids in school. “Watching the young kids makes me feel young.”

“Oh no! Great play!”

“Excellent!”

The sudden noise drew both Zhang Zian and Old Time Tea’s attention.

There were three basketball courts on the side of the No.4 academic building. The courts were fenced in. Some young men were playing basketball there and a few girls were cheering.

A tall guy completed a handsome dunk. The girls were screaming while the other guys also showed admiration. The tall guy waved his fists at the girls with a big smile on his face. Unexpectedly, someone he was guarding quickly got the ball, dribbled, and scored. 2 points!

A dunk was exciting, yet it only got the same points as a normal jump shot.

The tall guy immediately pulled a long face. He stared at his opponent as if he was on fire.

“Defense! Defense!” The cheerleaders from both teams started cheering.

Zhang Zian sighed, “Youth!”

“You are not old,” Old Time Tea laughed.

“I am old compared to them.”

As he sighed, he didn’t forget to search for the Elfin. Maybe Elfin Michael Jordan was hiding on the court…

Zhang Zian and Old Time Tea both walked around the basketball court and entered the No.5 building from the other side of the basketball court.

The No. 5 building was even newer than the No. 4 building. The outside was layered with white and shiny tiles which made it look even more outstanding. There were lots of bicycles parked outside. Zhang Zian looked in through the window: almost every classroom was full. Some classrooms had class and different subjects were shown on the huge monitor or LED screen.

From the No.1 to the No.5 academic building, it showed the history of Binhai University, from dated to modern.

Zhang Zian started searching room after room.

When he pushed open classroom 101, he was surprised. There were many brand-new bicycles in the back of the classroom. It made sense because all the bicycles parked outside were extremely old. A new bicycle would be stolen within minutes if they had been parked outside.

The classroom was almost full. Most people focused on studying. Some couples were talking quietly. No one was doing anything weird.

Another building was searched. There was still no Elfin.

Zhang Zian suspected that the Elfin had been captured by another player.

He switched back to the game and reconfirmed. The circle representing Elfin’s location was still there and hadn’t moved.

Leaving the No.5 building, he headed towards the central academic building as planned.

The central academic building was completed last year. It was a magnificent building in the shape of the letter X if looked at from above. Although Zhang Zian didn’t believe in premonitions, he had a strong feeling that he would replace the Elfin in this building.
