Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Contradictory Humans

After Abigail finished answering, Brandon did not say anything else. He quietly watched Teddy on the bed.

It seemed as if he really just came to see the child.

Abigail was not in a hurry, either. She could feel that Brandon did not take her previous words to heart, but she would replace an opportunity to talk to him in detail after the competition.

For Brandon’s surgery, she felt reassured only if she personally performed it.

During her time at the Piers’ Mansion, she had learned quite a bit about the Piers’ situation. Although it couldn’t be said that they monopolized the entire pharmaceutical industry, as one of the leading enterprises in the country, the Piers’ deep foundation was unimaginable to ordinary people.

But the larger the interests a family involves, the more intense the conflicts become.

Brandon’s father died early. The old man, heartbroken for his youngest son, handed over most of the shares to Brandon. Coincidentally, Brandon was a sickly person. The Piers had previously been run by the second and third uncles.

This stirred up a hornet’s nest.

The second and third uncles of the Piers family were no pushovers. After managing the business for most of their lives, they were now supposed to hand it over to a sickly person. How could they be willing?

So, beneath the seemingly magnificent exterior of the Piers, there were always turbulent undercurrents.

Abigail believed that as long as anything happened to Brandon during the surgery, Teddy would be the first to suffer.

As Brandon’s legitimate heir, George Piers was too young to have any self-protection ability.

And Abigail could not guarantee that if Brandon died on the operating table, she could protect Teddy against such a behemoth as the Piers.

By then, even Elder Piers might not be able to protect this heir in swaddling clothes.

So Brandon, whether public or private, she had to save him.

“Remember our agreement.” Abigail reminded Brandon.

Brandon withdrew his gaze from Teddy and looked at the chubby girl on the side. Her face seemed even thinner, and in her bright black eyes was a seriousness that made Brandon unsure how to respond. “Win first, then we’ll talk.”

Abigail was not satisfied with this answer, but she also knew open-heart surgery was not a simple bullet removal and suture. It required strong technical skills and rich clinical experience. It was normal for Brandon not to trust her.

“I will prove it to you.” Abigail looked into his beautiful amber eyes and answered firmly.

“All right.” Brandon was stunned for a moment, then responded with an “all right,” but he was clear in his heart that even if Abigail really accomplished it, he might not be able to wait until she won.

After Brandon left, Abigail hurried into the bathroom.

Only after washing off the thin layer of sticky sweat did Abigail think about Brandon’s words. She felt that his last “all right” when he left was insincere.

Did he think she couldn’t win the championship, or was he just not assured of her performing the surgery?

But no matter what Brandon thought, she was determined to be the chief surgeon for his operation.

After taking a bath, Abigail felt much cleaner and fresher, and she carefully lay down beside Teddy.

Looking at the little one’s peaceful sleeping face, Abigail felt a surge of tenderness in her heart.

Before going to bed at night, looking at the child beside her and saying “Good night, baby,” had already become her routine.

And unknowingly, she and Teddy had been in this world for more than two months. Touching the scar on her abdomen, Abigail still remembered the excruciating pain when she woke up from the delivery room, wishing she could die again.

Now, this scar had already scabbed over and would soon fall off.

Abigail Green’s body was only eighteen years old; her recovery ability was strong, and Teddy’s absorption was also good. With a growth rate of three and a half pounds per month, he was now sixteen pounds heavy.

“Mommy is a big fatty, and our Teddy is a little fatty.” Thinking of how Dr. Watson personally came to check on Teddy’s health yesterday and smiled, praising the little guy for being amazing, Abigail’s face couldn’t help but show a sense of prideful satisfaction.

Unfortunately, while she was very happy about Teddy gaining weight, she was not happy about gaining weight herself.

Humans are always so contradictory.
