Chapter 62 - Returning to my rejected mate

Zane's Point of View

I slowly open the door to Shay's room. My eyes takes a minute to adjust to the dimly lit room and I make my way over to the bed.

I can't explain the relief I feel when I see the rise and fall of her chest. She's breathing and she's alive.

I smile as I slowly brush the hair from hair face and tuck it behind her ear. I give her a peck on the forehead and I revel in the sparks that course through me, assuring me my mate is still here with me and our son.

I look around, spotting a chair. I grab it and place it right next to her bed before I take a seat. I pick up her hand and entwine my fingers with hers. I bring our hands up to my mouth and kiss the back of her hand gently.

"Hi little mate. It's me. I don't know if you can hear me.. But I'm going to talk anyway. I've missed you. I know it hasn't been that long but still. You know, you scared the hell out of me right? I thought I was losing you. God.. I don't know what I would do if I lost you."

I shake my head and close my eyes to try and keep the tears at bay. I put her knuckles to my mouth and kiss her softly taking a deep breath.

"I don't know if you know this but you are pregnant baby."

I gently put one of my hands on her still flat belly.

"Soon we could have another little wolf. Wouldn't that be amazing? Just hang in there for me, okay? Be strong for the both of you. I know you can both pull true. Can you just imagine how excited Zayde will be if we told him there is a baby on the way?"

Despite the lump forming in my throat I smile to myself and shake my head, thinking about our son's reaction. I move closer to her stomach, and tap it gently.

"Hi there, little baby wolf. I'm your daddy. If you can hear me, please hold on for us okay?"

A few tears escape down my face as happiness and fear flows through me. I was happy to know our pup was in there eventhough I was terrified of losing our pup.

"Daddy loves you and mommy, so much.. Just make it out of here little wolf and I promise you, nothing and no one will ever harm you. Not under my watch."

I slightly lift out of my chair and place a kiss on her stomach, sending a quick prayer up to the goddess asking her to protect our baby.

I sat back on my chair. Talking to both of them but I kept feeling restless and I couldn't relax, so I gently got onto the bed next to her and pulled her into my arms. My entire body relaxed feeling her against me and I close my eyes. I could feel myself starting to fall asleep, I didn't fight it and just allowed sleep to take over.

"Alpha, Alpha."

I frown, hearing someone call but I don't want to open my eyes just yet. I pull Shay closer to me and then I feel someone shaking me, calling me once more.

"Alpha! Wake up."

My eyes snap open and I look for the source, my eyes landing on Lesley and she gives me an apologetic smile.

"I'm sorry for disturbing you, but I just need to check on her vitals and get her ready for the transfusion."

I nod, slowly getting of the bed and taking my place on the chair again. I take her hand in mine,

my finger circling her palm as I watch Lesley going over the monitors.

"Is everything okay?"

She nods at me, writing on her pad.

"Everything seems okay for now. She's stable and still sleeping but her wolf seems to be awake

still. Taking care of the pup I suppose."

"Can I stay with her?"

I ask hopefully but Lesley shakes her head.

"No, I'm sorry. That won't be possible Alpha. But I will be right there to watch over her. I'll let you

know if anything happens."

"How long will it take?"

"It takes quite a while Alpha."

I sigh but nod. I sit there just holding her hand until they wheel her out.

I slowly make my way back to the waiting area and everyone gets up when they see me. "How are they?"

My mother and Sarah asks at the same time. My mother comes over to me and hugs me. I hug her back tightly before pulling away and looking at all of them.

"She's still asleep but her vitals are okay and she's stable. They took her for the transfusion. Her wolf is still awake, taking care of the pup."

"That's good right?"

Megan asks and I nod.

"I think so. They said the transfusion is going to take a while. I want to go check on our son. Would you mind staying here and letting me know if something happens?"

I turn to look at my mother and she shakes her head.

"Of course not. We'll be right here."

I give her a quick peck on the head.

"Thank you."

I turn to look at Jake and Megan.

"You two should probably head back to the packhouse. Thank you for being here but it's been

hours and you are pregnant yourself Megan. Go get some dinner and get some rest."

Megan goes to argue but I shake my head.

"That wasn't a request. Jake take your pregnant mate home and take care of her. You can always come back again later."

Jake looks at her.

"He isn't wrong baby. Please, I promise you we can come back when you're all rested."

She sighs and nods.

"Fine, but I want to know the minute something happens."

She says looking at my mother and Sarah and they both nod at her.

"Your rooms are all set up too, if you want to go take a shower and rest."

I say to Dan and Ashley.

Dan shakes his head to decline, but the moment he looks down at his mate and sees how tired

she looks he nods his head standing up.

"I guess we'll take you up on that room."

"Come on. We'll all go get some dinner and then we'll show you to your rooms."

Jake says motioning Dan and Ashley to follow them. I nod at him, silently thanking him before looking at Sarah. She gives me a small smile.

"I'll stay with Diana until you come back. There is no way I'd be able to sleep anyway. Go see your

son."

I nod at them before heading out of the hospital.

'Ryan?'

'Zane? Is everything okay?'

'Yes, everything is fine. They took Shay for the transfusion. Is Zayde still awake?'

'Yes, we are currently still watching Bluey. He has already eaten and has been bathed.'

'Thank you. I'm heading your way now.'

'I'll put the kettle on.'

I smile.

'Thank you, coffee sounds great. I'll see you in five minutes.'

I cut of the mindlink and make my way to their floor.

Before I can even knock Amy opens the door and lets me in.

"How are you doing?"

She asks, squeezing my arm and I give her a small smile.

"Okay, they are both still here so that is all that matters."

She smiles back at me and nods.

"That is all that matters. Come in. I got a plate ready for you, I'm guessing you haven't really

thought about eating."

I shake my head.

"No, I haven't. Thank you Amy. For everything."

She waves her hand.

"Don't worry about it. You're family. We're happy to help."

I follow her into the kitchen, she hands me my plate and gives me another smile.

"You can head on through to the living room. Ryan and the boys are in there. I'll be there in a minute with the hot drinks."

I nod at her, taking my plate and head to their living room.

"Daddy!"

Zayde yells, getting up and rushing over to me as soon as he sees me. He hugs my legs and I pat

his head, smiling down at him.

"Hey buddy, you having fun?"

He nods his head with a big smile.

"Yes! We're watching Bluey!"

Suddenly the smile disappears and he frowns.

"Uh oh.."

He mumbles, biting his lip nervously and I frown.

"What's wrong buddy?"

"Mommy said no Bluey.. I didn't mean to be bad. Do you think she'll be mad at me?"

He asks looking at me with big eyes.

I smile at him and shake my head.

"No, I think she'll be okay with it."

He nods and looks behind me.

"Where is she? Is she still at the hospital? Grandma said she got a little hurt at training?"

My heart constricts again but I ruffle his hair.

"Yeah buddy, she's still there. The doctors are still making her all better."

"Can I see her?"

I shake my head.

"No, I'm sorry Not tonight. It is late and she is sleeping now but we can go see her tomorrow if

you want to?"

He nods and smiles.

"Okay daddy. Do you want to watch Bluey with us?"

"Of course I do! And while we watch Bluey and I eat my dinner you guys can tell me all about

your day?"

Zayde and Jason both nod at me with big smiles before starting to tell me about everything they

did today.

Amy brings in the hot drinks and we all listen to the children.

I stick around until the boys fall asleep.

"Thank you again for this, it means a lot."

I say looking at Amy and Ryan when we are standing at the door.

They both shake their heads at me.

"You need to stop thanking us. We've told you. We're happy to help. You just focus on Shay and

the baby. We got Zayde covered. Just let us know if anything happens."

Ryan says and I nod.

"I will. Goodnight guys."

"Goodnight."

They close the door as I turn and leave. I make my way back to the hospital slowly. Halfway there

I stop and stare up at the sky taking a deep breath before sending up another prayer.

"Please Goddess, keep them save."

I run my hand down my face and continue on my way to the hospital.

I have a feeling it is still going to be a long night.
