Rise of the Crusader
Chapter 139

139 The academy tournament I

The atmosphere was intense as tension existed among a few of the students as the referee took two pieces of paper out of the selection boxes.

He opened both papers and then said.

“Posner Hall from the norms division, Ana Campbell from the murderer division, please step forward.”

While the murderer division remained completely calm when one of their own was called out, the same couldn’t be said for the norms division.

Posner bit his lower lips hard when he heard his name and the person he was up against.

However, after a few seconds, he stood from his seat and approached the grand stage.

Donned in their costumes, Ana stared at Posner, and so did he.

Their thoughts were unknown, but while Ana had a neutral expression on her face, Posner’s hands were clenched into a fist. Encountering a student of the murderer division at the early stage was of the tournament was considered bad luck to him.

The referee stared at the duo, standing beside him, “Fighters ready?” He asked.

.....

“Start!”

After the referee’s voice rang out, he had only taken a few steps backward, when he saw a needle flash within his eyes.

He slowly moved his gaze towards Posner, and in the blink of an eye, the needle penetrated through Posner’s throat and emerged at the other end of his body.

“Curgh!”

Posner vomited a mouthful of blood from his mouth, he placed his hand on his throat which was bleeding profusely, and in shock, he staggered several steps backward.

Staring at the slender build, brown-haired woman in front of him, his eyes widened.

He slowly turned towards the area where his colleagues were, and with a sad expression then on his face, he stumbled to the ground.

The referee moved to Posner’s quickly, he placed two fingers on his neck, and after a few seconds, he spoke.

“The winner is Ana Campbell!”

Despite being called the winner of this battle, Ana didn’t seem to be pleased with it. She kept a straight face and then headed back to the murderer divisions.

“This is the needle projection girl, you spoke about.”

Layla muttered as she stared at Ana.

A nod came from Grayson, the director of the murderer division.

“Yes, she is one of a kind, right.” There was a sadistic grin on Grayson’s face when he spoke about Ana.

After Posner’s body was cleared from the stadium, the referee took out another paper from the selection boxes.

“Azarov Garner from the bandit’s division, Barlow Abbot from the norms division, please step forward.”

Azarov is a tall brown-skinned man with dark, light green eyes, light-brown hair, narrow lips, and large ears.

He was wearing matching dark clothes and the moment he heard his name from the referee, he leaped onto the stage with a sword placed on his shoulder.

Even though Barlow had witnessed the death of one of his classmates in the hands of the student from the murderer division earlier, he kept a stern expression.

There was battle intent burning in his eyes, almost as though he wanted to avenge the death of his friend.

“Fighters ready? Start!” The referee announced.

After hearing the referee’s call, Barlow opened his mouth wide.

A second after he opened up, his tongue which was formerly three inches grew significantly.

The tongue then dashed towards Azarov who hadn’t moved from where he was.

Possessing the power to freely control and manipulate his tongue, Barlow was a top-notch metahuman in the norms division. And apart from his tongue being able to increase in size, it was also poisonous.

The tongue was a few meters away from Azarov and still, he didn’t make a move nor take a step from where he was.

However, with only a few inches left, Azarov suddenly waved his sword.

His movements were so fast that only a few could discern what he had just done. And after he struck Barlow, he turned around, heading back to his seat.

“What is he doing?”

The people in the stadium were left dumbfounded when they saw Azarov walking back to his seat.

As only a few realized that he moved his sword real quick, the majority had no idea. However, as they turned towards Barlow, their eyes twitched and then their mouth widened.

“What the hell!”

It was already well-expected that the tournament was going to be brutal, but it was very thrilling when the outcome exceeded everyone’s expectations.

Barlow’s body wasn’t just covered in blood, it was divided into two.

It wasn’t even up to a second after the crowds were wondering how he ended up in this shape when his tongue suddenly dropped to the ground.

The students in the norms division were in dismay as apart from Barlow, there were only two other people in their division that they looked up to.

But, seeing how Barlow was handled, they couldn’t help but seek for help from their instructor. And as the woman didn’t respond to them, they turned toward their director, who was a few meters away.

Even though Layla could tell that the norm division students were staring at her, she didn’t glance at them.

After the winner between Barlow and Azarov’s battle was announced and Barlow’s body was cleared from the stadium, the referee called the next contestants.

“Bane Senneville from the elite division, Gordon Lapierre, from the tech division, please step forward.”

A slender build youth wearing the tech divisions pants and long-sleeved shirt walked onto the shirt.

He had dark curly hair, and brown eyes, and beneath the tech division clothes were full-body armor.

The armor covered his entire body apart from his head, and as he stood in the gladiator stadium, a smile hung on his face.

“Now, it’s time for the king to take over the stage. Now, watch, and you might learn a few things.” Bane exclaimed.

“Ready? Start!”

The smile on Gordon’s face disappeared, immediately after the referee spoke. He brought a laser gun out of nowhere and fired it at Bane a second after.
