Secret Scion -
Chapter 71 -
However, before Radley could give it any more thought, noises from not far away diverted his attention. Suddenly, at the stairway, a group of men wearing uniforms appeared and sealed off all the exits. The leading officer then said, "All of you will now be tested downstairs!"
"What's happening?" Rose was stunned as well.
"I know the person leading them. Let me ask him." With that, Radley walked over. When several
of the officers saw Radley walking toward them, they were all very wary of the man.
However, the leading officer merely said, "It's fine. Go check the other private rooms."
Once his subordinates had all left, the leading officer then asked, "Mr. Leonard, why are you here?"
"What's happening here, Captain Rivers?"
"Someone reported that drugs are being sold in this bar, and that person directly reported this to the city's police department. The higher-ups have high expectations for this case, and so we're simply working as ordered. I hope you can forgive us for these interruptions."
"Please, no need to apologize. I'm simply curious about what's happening. I won't interrupt, so please go ahead."
Radley then walked back to Rose and said, "Someone reported that there are drugs here." Rose nodded and did not pay it much mind.
However, Radley was wearing a stern expression on his face. He knew that this bar belonged to Hunter. Who was the one targeting him?
At the same time, Hunter was so angry when he received the call from the person-in-charge that he roared, "Damn you! I've always told you that we won't touch this drug business! Why would you do that behind my back! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!"
"Boss, I wouldn't do that behind your back! I wouldn't dare go against your wishes no matter how bold I am! I think we're being targeted," the person-in-charge quickly explained.
"You're saying that someone is trying to frame me?" Hunter said.
"It's not impossible. I swear on my soul that I've never ever touched drugs. However, the cops did
replace Ice under one of the sofas in the private rooms. Don't you think that's weird, boss?"
"Shit. Find out who's framing me! I'll have his head on a platter!" Hunter roared out in anger. "Who's the one leading the search? Do you know him?"
"Boss, this might be a bit tricky. The one leading them is called Lester Rivers. He said that the operation is organized by the headquarters. He's just leading it. Boss, they'll come for you soon enough. You should disappear for now. We have to be prudent about this."
Hunter immediately hung up the phone and sat on the sofa. He gave his nose a massage as he thought to himself, who are the bastards that are screwing with me? If they are able to bring this up to the headquarters, then they are quite resourceful as well.
After giving it some thought, Hunter immediately drove to the police station.
"Brother, everything's going very well. No matter how good Hunter is, he's doomed!"
Quill said to Julian excitedly at the Hoffman Residence.
After he fell into Hunter's trap, Quill had been wanting revenge on Hunter for a long time.
However, because of Hunter's identity, Quill had to stay his hand for a long time.
However, it was different this time. As Julian was the one doing it, he did not have to bear any responsibilities whatsoever.
"Where is Hunter now? Has he been arrested?" Julian was not as thrilled, however, since what he had done was quite underhanded.
"He's not that smart either. I hear that he went to the police department on his own." Quill smiled coldly. "Don't you worry. Hunter's a dead man walking."
Did he go to the police department on his own?
Julian never thought that Hunter would be so bold. If it was him, he would do the same thing. Hiding would simply make it seem like he did it. Meanwhile, if he were to surrender himself and let the police carry out the investigation, there might be a ray of hope.
"Quill, we can't be too happy just yet. Hunter's not someone simple if he can reach where he is today." Julian gave it some thought again and said, "Oh, right. Where's the person that you got to hide the drugs at the bar? That person is the key to all of this. You cannot have him fall into Hunter's hand."
Quill thumped his chest and said, "Leave this to me. Don't worry about it."
Asher was just about to go to sleep when his mobile rang. It was an unfamiliar number. He hesitated for a few seconds before picking it up.
"Is this Master Crawford? This is Peter White, Hunter's underling. Something happened to the boss!"
Asher had met Peter a few times. He was Hunter's right hand, and he could discern his voice. He then asked, "What happened? Explain."
Peter then explained everything to him and then said, "Master Crawford, the boss has already been at the police department for quite some time. He still isn't back. When I called him, his mobile had been switched off. I'm worried that they will torture him to get a confession! This entire thing is a plot by someone! I can't think of anyone that can help, so I had to call you."
"I understand," Asher said. He suddenly remembered something and said, "Do one thing for me
as soon as you get back. Retrieve all the footage from all the security cameras at the bar. Remember, I want all the footage. Don't leave any behind."
After he hung up the phone, Asher then got off from his bed and walked to Noelle's bedroom. He stopped outside and then knocked on the door. "Are you asleep?"
"No. The door's unlocked," Noelle said.
When Asher went in, Noelle had just washed up and was about to go to bed. She was wearing very loose pajamas on her alluring figure. Thanks to the lighting, her perfect figure could somewhat be seen.
"Is something wrong?"
Asher nodded and said, "Hunter's been arrested. I want to ask if you know anyone from the police department. I want to see him."
"Of course," Noelle said and went to grab her mobile. "Do you remember the policewoman that came when you were fighting with Rodrick? Her name's Maeve Smith. Her dad is the department's deputy chief of police. Give me a second. Let me give her a call."
Very quickly, Noelle made the call and ended it after just a while. She then said, "She said that she'll wait for you at the department. You can go over right now. It's late, so I won't be joining you."
"You don't have to go. You're tired after a day's worth of work. Just rest."
When Asher reached the entrance of the police department, a cool woman in police uniform standing not so far away caught his eyes. She was indeed the woman that he met last time. "Thank you for the help, Ms. Smith," Asher said as he followed behind her.
"You're welcome, Mr. Crawford," Maeve said as she led the way. "However, Hunter's case is extremely problematic. The operation is led by the headquarters. Even my dad didn't know about it. I'm afraid there's nothing much I can do to help."
"The innocent will be proven innocent. All I need is the police to investigate this fairly."
"Don't worry about that, Mr. Crawford. We won't let any criminal escape, but we won't let any innocent suffer as well."
When Asher saw Hunter, he was locked in a small, dark room. The light was quite dim, but he could see that Hunter was doing fine.
"Well, I'll leave this to you, Mr. Crawford. I'll wait outside," Maeve said and walked out. "I'm sorry, Master Crawford. I'm dragging you into my problems again," Hunter said dejectedly. "Forget about it," Asher said as he stared into Hunter's eyes. "The reason I came is because I want to confirm one thing with you. Have you ever touched drugs in your business?" Hunter shook his head sincerely and said, "I swear it on my soul, Master Crawford." When Asher saw Hunter's sincerity through his eyes and the strength in his voice, Asher believed that he was telling the truth.
"Good. You didn't hide and instead surrendered yourself to assist with the investigation. This is a good move."
Hunter immediately let out an awkward smile when he heard Asher's praise and said, "If I didn't do it, I didn't do it."
Asher then nodded and said, "I've asked Peter to get the security camera footage. We should be able to replace out the person that hid the drugs. Right, do you have any clues on who wants to frame you?"
"There's no one from our own circle. That leaves the Hoffmans."
"The Hoffmans?" Asher was quite surprised. They were a household with pride, how could they do something so underhanded?
"If I were to be specific, it should be Julian," Hunter said in a deep voice. "Master Crawford, I took over Julian's club a few days ago. This is definitely an act of revenge from him. To think that he would do something so underhanded... Julian's not someone that impressive anyway." Asher nodded and then said, "Cooperate with the police's investigation. Leave the rest to me." Luckily, Peter was not too late. In less than two hours, he had already gotten hold of all the footage. He then gave Asher a call. When Asher left the police department, he immediately left and looked for Peter to investigate the footage.
