Secret Scion -
Chapter 73 -
"You're lying, Noelle! My husband has never done anything against the household!" Laura screamed out in a piercing screech.
"You personally know the best whether you did it or not," Noelle said in a stern voice. "Uncle, just based on everything you've done, I'm still doing the right thing even if I decide to expel you out of the Stewards. However, you're still my uncle. Just because you did something wrong, it doesn't mean that I can't give you any concessions because we're still family. However, I hope you realize that I'm human as well, and there's a limit to my patience. If you still won't give up, then I'll do it according to our family law!"
Michael's face turned pale as the atmosphere became extremely awkward. He looked down and could not bear to even look Noelle in the eye.
"Grandpa, since I've become the matriarch of the household, I believe I have the authority to deal with those who are disloyal to the household as I see fit. What Erick has done is unforgivable, so I hope that you won't say anything about this anymore." With that Noelle simply left without even turning back.
"Father, aren't you going to say something? She won't even show you any respect," Laura said with a snort.
"Silence!" Carter called out coldly. "It's hard for Noelle to be both the director and the matriarch at the same time. From now on, no one is allowed to trouble her anymore!"
He also stood up and left.
Laura gritted her teeth in anger, and Michael could only watch with embarrassment.
At this time, Mason said with a smile, "Brother, I think what father said makes sense. She's so busy now, so we shouldn't interrupt her if there's nothing important. Haha, I'm full. Take your time, everyone."
Mason had been bullied by Michael for a long time. Now that he could show off, he would not forgo this chance. After he said that, Mason felt so much more comfortable. He placed his hands behind him and then left with a laugh.
Radley was up almost the entire night last night. His entire mind was filled with what Rose had told him. Radley could not grasp what the woman was telling her.
Regardless, Radley still wanted to convince Hallberg to work with the Schmidts.
In the evening, Radley approached Hallberg's room with a tin of exotic tea leaves that he asked
his friend to buy for him. He placed it on the table and asked, "You're thinking about something, Grandpa?"
Hallberg glanced at the tea leaves and nodded, saying, "Radley, I heard a while ago that Mikaela had been visiting Garrett at the hospital frequently. You two have always been good friends.
Now, be honest with me. Are they in a relationship?"
Radley did not realize that his grandfather was going to ask him about it. He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose as he frowned and said, "I'm not so sure, Grandpa. Maybe I can ask Mikaela about it?"
"Hogwash! Mikaela would go everywhere with you even when both of you were still children. You're not sure about it? Now, tell me the truth!" Hallberg called out angrily.
Radley knew that he could not keep it a secret, and so he replied, "Maybe Mikaela likes Garrett." "Then the child she's pregnant with belongs to Garrett?"
When Radley heard what he had to say, he was taken aback as his eyes widened with disbelief. "Hmph! Don't think that I'm becoming senile because of my age. I'm still very much in my prime! Why didn't you tell me about this earlier? Why must you force me to personally investigate this when someone told me that Mikaela has been acting strangely?"
Hallberg's expression darkened as he continued, "Radley, even if Mikaela isn't bold enough to tell me, why won't you tell me? I place a lot of hope on you, but you're making me more and more disappointed in you. I told you, the Leonards will not interfere with the Schmidts' and the Crawfords' personal war. However, you still went to see Rose without informing me. Radley, do you still have an inkling of respect for me?"
Radley did not expect Hallberg to know everything perfectly well. He even knew where he had been and what he had done. There was no use in trying to argue, and so Radley used this chance to try and convince him instead. "Grandpa, I don't understand why the Leonards have to stop working with the Schmidts? The Leonards have been suppressed by the Yaegers all these years... It's a very rare chance for us when the Schmidts are attacking Asher. I believe that Asher can't beat Rose. Once Asher has failed, the Yaegers will have to pay the price as well. Then, the Leonards will automatically become the number one household in Rollinsford. We can't miss this chance, Grandpa!"
"I don't need you to teach me that," Hallberg said, upset. In truth, he did not want to be suppressed by the Yaegers as well. However, he had no choice as Asher knew his secret. Once the matter from twenty years ago was exposed, he was not the only one who would be doomed. The Leonard household that he had spent so much effort to build would be destroyed as well. "Radley, I'm the Leonard's patriarch. At least, I still am for now. I have the authority to make the decision for our household. Do not mention this ever again. I will never agree with working with the Schmidts. Also, tell Mikaela that we can't have the child. Tell her to have an abortion as soon as possible."
"Grandpa..."
Radley still wanted to say something, but it only angered Hallberg. He immediately threw the tin of tea leaves to Radley's feet and yelled, "Get out!"
Radley could only feel the muscles in his entire body tense up. He did not dare to say anything else and simply turned and left.
"Grandpa, I think you're becoming senile! You might be afraid of Asher, but I'm not! I'll have him beg for forgiveness at my feet! And Noelle, if I can't have you, I'll destroy you instead! Grandpa, I'll prove to you that I'm making the right decision!"
Once Radley was back in his room, he lit up a cigarette and continuously huffed away. After he was done, he took out his mobile and called someone called Lux Whittard. "Manager Whittard, you're the one that's responsible for the takeover of Yonder Steel, right? Bring what you have to the company tomorrow morning, and we'll take another look at it."
Next day.
Roc Corporation.
The current director of Roc Corporation, belonging to the Leonards, was Hallberg. However, he rarely went to the company. Most of the time, Radley was the one taking care of business here. On one hand, Hallberg was getting old. On the other hand, he wanted to train Radley since Radley would take control of the corporation eventually.
While Radley was not that highly ranked in the corporation, he was still quite influential. Everybody knew that he was the boss's grandson and would normally show him some respect. "Master Radley, this is the information you requested." A man around forty years of age placed the stack of documents in front of Radley. That man was Lux.
After hesitating for a few seconds, Lux then said, "Isn't our company going to give up on the acquisition of Yonder Steel?"
"We gave up because the time wasn't right. But now, do you know how much the price for Yonder Steel is? Less than 6 million. It's almost half of its previous price. Now is the time for the company to make our move," Radley said as he read the documents.
"6 million? Impossible! Yonder Steel's market price is definitely more than this."
"I'm not lying to you, alright?" Radley said as he glanced at Lux. He then said, "My grandpa's not feeling well lately so he asked me to take over this project. From now on, you can come to me if it's anything related to this project."
Radley's identity was quite extraordinary, so Lux did not give it a second thought. That was because Radley had managed a lot of big projects as well, and they had all been allowed by Hallberg. That was why Lux did not suspect anything. He simply nodded and said, "This should be easier with you leading the project. If it's really only worth 6 million, then this is a good choice. Right, we worked with the Hoffmans on this before. Should I contact them again?" "No need. The Roc Corporation can handle a project that's worth 6 million. Quickly contact Tyler from Yonder Steel and set a time for a meeting. If we're too slow, someone else might grab this opportunity instead."
"Sure," Lux said with a nod.
In that same afternoon, Asher picked up a call from Peter.
Peter said that a friend of his saw someone that looked similar to Tanner going to a bar.
Peter was worried that he might alert Tanner of his presence, so he gave Asher a call immediately.
Miami Bar was the biggest bar in Rollinsford. Millions had been invested into it, and in less than a year, it had already become one of the best in Rollinsford.
People were already dancing and having fun inside the bar when it was just seven in the evening. Technically, the nightlife had not even begun.
In an inconspicuous corner, Quill gave Tanner, who was covered in sweat, a look and said, "When you went to Hunter's bar earlier, the security camera must have captured you. My brother is worried that they might be suspicious of you, so I want you to keep your head low and skip town. There is around 15 thousand dollars on this card. Don't go on a shopping spree and it should be enough for a while."
Tanner had just finished dancing on the floor. He grabbed a drink as he said, "Master Quill, Master Julian is getting a bit too careful, isn't he? I'm not the only one that went to the bar, why would they suspect it's me? Not to mention that they have no evidence at all, what can they do to me?"
