The Alpha's Return -
Chapter 45 - Fighting With Meredith
"Wait. Are you saying that this Marquess could be part of the group that is trying to free up Ouroborus?", Lucas asked Praneeth.
"Well, aren't you guys a delight! I don't have to stand here explaining my plan to you like all the good guys do!", Meredith beamed.
"Good guys? What is she talking about?", Lucas frowned. He looked at Eva. "Eva, is she, you know?", he twirled his index finger around the top of his ear.
"No, she was not crazy last I remember. She was just, different in her beliefs.", Eva shook her head.
"Well, after this is done, you can go and get her tested.", Lucas said as he punched his hands forward.. White fur appeared from his elbow to his hands, and sharp claws extended throughout. His ears straightened up, and they were also filled with fur. His physical appearance was completely different, and his demeanour changed. His eyes were red, and they glowed like a light bulb.
"How long will this take? Just get her and kill her. It shouldn't take that long.", Lucas said with a low voice as he pounced forward.
"Lucas, No!", Praneeth attempted to stop him by reaching forward but missed him by a few inches.
"And there goes the nice atmosphere that I built up.", Meredith sighed as she raised her hand. She started chanting, and streams of black light appeared from seemingly nowhere. They were converging at the front of her index finger. Then, she pent her finger and flicked it.
A thick stream of black light shot forward, like a bullet. Lucas, who was running mid air, twirled around as he dodged it by a few hairs.
"Lucky you.", Meredith said with a playful tone. But by then, Lucas already got to where she was standing. Without even hesitating, he raised his hand and slashed forward. But he felt nothing. It was as if he was slashing thin air.
Where he slashed Meredith, only thin air remained, and she was no longer anywhere to be seen. He leaped back quickly in response.
Blast!
A sudden crater appeared where Lucas was previously standing.
"Wow. Your reflexes are really good. Well, what else can I expect from the red wolf himself?", her voice came from all directions of this circular room.
"Alright. This woman is clearly the wrong match for me. Praneeth, she is all yours.", Lucas sighed as he looked at Praneeth.
Praneeth shook his head.
"I told you didn't I? This fight was not meant to be ours since the beginning. It was Eva's", he said calmly.
"Look at her. She is still standing there crestfallen. She does not want to fight at all. Don't kid yourself Praneeth. This is just a tactic for them to stall for time and it is clearly working.", Lucas snarled.
Eva was not even moving. She trembled slightly and looked at Lucas. "Praneeth is right. This is my fight. I have to take revenge for my mother.", she said with a shaking voice.
"Then what the hell are you doing? When I wanted to take revenge on someone, I went ahead and came here. You are just standing there doing nothing!", Lucas shouted. "Get yourself together and fight!"
"Shut uuuuuuuuuuuup.", Eva shouted. Her scream came with a side-effect and everyone close their ears almost immediately.
She took her first step forward. She looked coldly at Lucas, who did not respond immediately. He did not even bat an eyelid.
"Finally, you are ready to grow a pair.", he scoffed after a pause.
She did not say anything. She looked away at another direction. It was plain wall, and nothing special. She raised both her hands. They were a pale white, but as they extended forward, they became a sappy brown. Her arms became branches as they extended towards the section of the wall that she was looking at.
They came crashing down, and the runes on the wall slowly dissipated. The wall itself collapsed and behind it was a woman who was sitting cross-legged. What was interesting, however, was that she was floating midair. Her eyes were open, but her pupils were nowhere to be seen. She tilted her head to look at them.
"You found me, dear sister. Looks like you didn't lose your touch.", the same irritating voice came from all around them, rather than from the direction of the woman.
"Don't kid yourself. You know that you just wanted to be found, and that's why you were so sleazy in your secrecy.", Eva scoffed.
Lucas tapped on Eva's shoulder. "This is not the time for a casual conversation. Fight. I need to get up there and kill a bastard who has lived a little longer than Yama intended to.", he whispered in her ear.
Eva trembled and her reaching arms came crashing back into her shoulders.
