The Alpha's Return -
Chapter 63 - Defeating The Sphinx?
"You dare disrespect me?", the Sphinx raged.
"What are you going to do about it?", Lucas laughed.
The sphinx started moving. She slowly shook her head, but because of the sheer magnitude of her face, it was enough to destabilize Lucas. He quickly jumped off of her head and landed safely on the sand.
The Sphinx was not finished yet. She raised her foot and took it forward to stamp Lucas away. Lucas grinned and he looked up. The foot was so huge that it cast a shadow all around him. He did not have anywhere to move at this point, and he felt a sharp pressure that did not even let him do so.
So, he raised his arms to defend himself. The foot came crashing down, and he was nowhere to be seen.
"See mortal! This is what happens when you go against a god.", the sphinx cackled.
"Now let us see the huge wolf come out for the first time in a thousand years. Let all of this be for reason.", she said.
"Aren't you celebrating a little too early?", Lucas said.
The sphinx shook as it turned its head to the left.
"How did you survive that? A physical attack like that should be impossible to defend.", she cried in shock.
"You should choose your territory wisely. Who the hell uses sand as their go-to place? I literally sank in, and just had to swim out.", Lucas laughed.
"Darn this sand that betrayed me. But you now have to die. You have angered me, and there shall be consequences.", the sphinx shouted.
Lucas laughed as he jumped. He was on the sphinx's left ear till now, and now he was right above her. He took his hands and formed a fist. He then slammed it down on her head as he came crashing down.
Crack, crack, crack.
The head started cracking, and Lucas could see that it was going to fall apart anytime soon. He quickly jumped off and put some distance between him and the statue.
"You darned human. I will make sure that you pay for this!", the sphinx shouted with remorse. Finally, the head itself started falling apart, and it fell onto the ground. The body of the sphynx, which was that of a lion, stopped moving and stood still like the statue that it was.
Lucas rushed to the head, and started throwing away the pieces of sand stone that were present. After a while, he got to the core of the head, Within it, everyone was sitting with their legs crossed, and their eyes closed.
The moment that the sun hit their face, they opened their eyes, they looked around with confusion.
"What happened? I was just about to answer her question.", Arthur said.
"Why would you listen to that old hag? You should be like me, just taking control and killing her off.", Lucas laughed.
"What happened Lucas? The last thing that the sphinx said to me before I came back here was, and I quote, 'You darned human, I will make you pay for this'. I know that she is talking about you, because we are literally standing in the middle of the sphinx's head, and it is shattered. You killed her vessel.", Praneeth said as he got up.
"Yeah. She gave me this horrible choice and said that I could go in on my own. When I refused, she said all these things, and I was like really confused, so I just attacked her, and that lead to here.", Lucas said.
"Did you even understand what you just said?", Arthur asked.
"I attacked her, and I killed her. End of story.", Lucas said.
"Are you sure it is the end of the story? Did you get anything from the conversation or something? I mean, you have to have heard something right?", Praneeth asked Lucas.
"Come to think of it, she did say something after she thought I was dead. Something about Fenrir finally coming out after so long, and that all of this was for reason.", Lucas suddenly remembered.
"Interesting. Fenrir, your thoughts?", Praneeth glanced at Lucas.
Lucas looked flustered.
"Why are you asking me? This is a sudden change in tone.", a deep voice came from within Lucas.
"Well, you are clearly the reason all of this happened in the first place. Who else would I ask?", Praneeth chuckled.
"Though I am humbled that you asked me, don't expect me to side with you when the time comes. I am just here for the fun. When the choice comes, I will be out for Odin's blood. Which vicious bastard locks up his own grandson?", Fenrir said, sounding quite irritated.
"Well, to be honest, Loki was his adopted son, so....", Angela interrupted.
"Don't rub it in, you vile creature.", Fenrir shot back.
"Fine. You don't know. Great. Now that that is settled, it is time for us to go to the next floor. Has everyone recovered? ", Praneeth looked around.
Everyone opened their eyes and got back up.
"Just out of curiosity, what questions did the Sphinx ask you guys?", Lucas asked Praneeth and the others.
"Just the usual. What walks on four legs at dawn, two legs at noon, and on three legs in the evening?", Praneeth said.
"And the answer is?", Lucas asked.
"Figure it out yourself. What good is it if I tell you the answer?", Praneeth chuckled.
"It's not like you are the only one with all the answers. I can always check it in the internet.", Lucas shrugged.
"Then you should go ahead and do it.", Praneeth nodded.
"We should have this discussion later, not now. Where the hell is the path to the next floor though?", Michael interjected.
"Well, she showed me this portal that she wanted me to go through. I think it will lead me to Peter or something.", Lucas said.
"Looks like our trip will finally start having some results huh?", Arthur mumbled.
