The Alpha's Slave Mate -
Book 2 Chapter 33
Daphne's Point of View
With everything that has happened within the last year I feel like nothing should be able to surpriseme anymore. Carolyn telling me that my mother sent a warning was a huge surprise though. Iquickly tried to cover my shock because I did not want Carolyn to think that I was viewing her anydifferently. The young girl already admitted that she had issues with people questioning her gift. Ihave no doubt in my mind that Carolyn is speaking the truth. For one she never met my mother, and I highly doubt that she would know her name. The second reason is the last set of words mymother said to her about Scarlett being in danger. If I were the one in danger my mother neverwould have shown herself; however, Scarlett was the diamond in my mother’s eyes. There is nothingthat my mother would not do to save her favorite child.
“Thank you so much for delivering that message to me Carolyn. I want you to know that I think youare incredibly brave. I am sorry that the spirit was not particularly nice to you.” I tell the young child.Leave it up to my mother to be condescending while asking someone for help. Even beyond thegrave that woman knows how to grate my nerves.
“Thank you, Luna I hope I do not see her again.” Carolyn is still a little upset about the encounter.
“I hope you do not see that woman either. She sounds like a beast.” I could not help but throw alittle jab in there, hoping that she can somehow hear my words.
“Now Carolyn I have a very grown-up question to ask you. Can you keep a secret?” The young girlnodded her head vigorously at my question, insinuating that she could keep things to herself. “Thisis a very big secret, even in our pack.” I explain to her. “There are other wolves like you here in ourpack. Wolves that have special gifts bestowed upon us, and we can do great things. Theo and I helpthese wolves grow their talents and train them. Would you like to join our special training programCarolyn?”
The young girl considers the offer for a moment. “If there are other wolves like me than how come Ihave never seen them?”
"Well like I said we keep it a secret. Alpha and I do not want anyone to try to hurt our specialwolves, or to exploit their peculiar talents. So, we train in private, and we keep it a secret, sort of likea super-secret club.” I try to explain to her why she has not seen anyone else's talents.
“Carolyn I am a special wolf too.” I was grateful that Anita chose to speak up. I would never outanother peculiar wolf without their permission.
“Really?” Carolyn asked her with big round eyes.
"Yes, really silly girl. I can help people and now certain animals have babies. I am also good withinteracting with kids, and soothing grumpy infants.” It had taken Theo and I some time to confirmthat Anita had a special ability. Finally, curiosity had gotten the best of me, and I struck up aconversation with her. She had disclosed that around certain people she felt a calm flow of energythat would lead her to placing her hands on the woman and boom a little while later she wouldlearn that woman was pregnant. We had tried various methods of expanding her abilities and havebeen decently successful with it.
“Wow I did not know that. So, you train with Luna too?” Carolyn asked her. Anita confirmed that shedid indeed train with me.
“I want to join too. I want to make more friends that are like me.” Carolyn answered in a squealinghigh pitched voice.
“That is very good. For now, Carolyn you must keep this a secret even from your mommy. I knowthat normally we would not keep secrets from your mother, but I have guests right now so it isgoing to take me a few days before I can speak with her. Alpha and I will talk with your mom andget everything set up, then I will introduce you to some of the other special wolves and we will startfocusing on a training plan for you as well, ok?" I explained carefully to the young girl.
Carolyn agreed to the terms and soon I was hugging her and Anita goodbye. I needed to startgetting ready for dinner, but I was emotionally still in shock. A huge part of me was still very angrythat my mother only chose to reveal herself because Scarlett was in danger. I mulled over themessage that Carolyn had given me, trying to analyze any clues as to what my mother had meant.
I was particularly confused about the part of Axle not being Hannah's mate. How was a trick evenpossible? I had never heard of someone being able to trick another person into believing thatsomeone was their mate. Perhaps she was trying to inform me that Axle was lying and that hesimply wanted Hannah. Axle is rather young, and I have heard of young males trying to trick femalesfor sexual pleasure. I hate to tell him but if that is the case Hannah will have him by the balls fasterthan he can blink. It also makes me question if this is what she meant by not everyone here shouldbe trusted?
At first, I was sure she meant Noah, or even Melissa. They both would be the obvious choice ofpeople that I do not trust. Even after Melissa and I had the talk at the spa I still would not trust her.Plus, my mother said there was a snake. Was is the same person that she was referencing that couldnot be trusted?
Ugh I wish she would have been clearer about everything. Even now my mother has figured out away to torture me, Goddess knows she was a fan of psychological abuse. Maybe this is a sick gamethat my mother is trying to destroy me mentally? Still as the Luna of this pack, and as Scarlett'ssister I cannot take this lightly.
I begin to analyze the current guests that we have here in the pack house. Alpha Marcus, Caleb, andTheo have been friends for a very long time. Although Caleb, and Theo are closer I can see the bondthat the trio share. Luna Lola is Marcus's mate, and although we have not known her as long, I donot see her going against her mate, nor do I see her as being deceptive. She is loud, rambunctious, and flamboyant but I have seen kindness and a fierce loyalty in her, so I doubt I need to worryabout her. Plus, she was highly protective of the children they rescued recently even though she hasthe knowledge that they are hybrids.
I then thought of Alpha Jerome and his Luna Alma. They are older and stepping down as leaders oftheir pack. Alma had once snuck in a gift for me when I was a child, and that makes it very difficultfor me to believe that they would intend any harm for me, or any of my pack members. I doremember that at one time my father had hoped that their son would be Scarlett's mate, but I donot think that caused any discord with them when it turned out that they were not fated mates. Ialso do not see any benefit to the Mission pack by betraying ours. They have plenty of land, andthey have never seemed power hungry. Although I do not know their son and future Alpha Hawkwell, he was raised by Jerome and Alma so I do not believe he would be malicious.
Alpha Axle is young and can act immature. His actions when he arrived here were rash, and not wellthought out. Although I am still confused as to why he believes that Hannah is his mate, he did actas if he fully believed that she was the one. Is he being tricked, or is he the trickster? Since I do notknow the answer to this, he is now suspicious in my mind. He also brought along his Beta Corey, who has been very quiet. Normally I would not deem this behavior suspicious but now I am curiousif he is simply gathering intel.
Then there is Alpha Cole to consider as well. I do not know how well Caleb knows this man. He hasexperienced tragedy in his young life, could that have made him bitter? I did applaud his reaction toHannah when he first arrived, but it could have simply of been a ruse. He did arrive without anysoldiers, or even his Beta. I had assumed that he had felt comfortable enough to come by himself, but now I wonder if that was again a ruse to put us more at ease around him. For now, he does nothave my trust.
Finally, there is Alpha Noah, and Luna Melissa. They of course are the obvious choice of people thatI would suspect of betrayal. Beyond the fact that they both tortured me when I was a child, I knowthat Noah does not like that he did not earn the Alpha title. It is no leap of the imagination to seethem causing a scene or trying some kind of trick to hurt our pack.
As I was mulling this new mystery over Caleb came into the room. I knew that I could not keep thisinformation from him, but I hate that I am laying yet another problem at his feet.
“Caleb, we need to talk.”
