Book 2 Chapter 39

Caleb's Point of View

I know that I must get up from the bed but laying here with Daphne sleeping soundly splayedacross my chest I do not want to move. Last night was amazing. I did not expect Daphne to beready for intimacy on that level yet, but when she bucked her hips up, I was lost in the void of lust. Ihad missed my mate severely, so it was a huge relief to both myself and my wolf spirit. I felt like ourbond was stronger than it was yesterday. I bent my head and softly kissed the top of hers, sendingup another thank you to the Moon Goddess for blessing me with her.

“Mmmm I do not want to get up yet.” Daphne's sleepy voice called out.

“I know my love, but there is a lot to get done today. On the bright side almost, everyone will beleaving after today so that we can start to untangle some of the mysteries we have around here.” Iam not sure if I said this more to reassure her, or if I was trying in vain to convince myself. This weekhad brought a ton of new problems, and headaches.

Daphne rolled on to her back, and I wanted to whimper for a moment at the loss of contact withher. “I know, I just hate that there are so many questions without answers.” She looks up at my face,and I can already tell that her brain is switching into overdrive.

"Yes, but we will not be replaceing any answers if we dally in bed my sweet. On a different note, howare you feeling this morning?” I cannot help but be worried that I have hurt her.

Daphne immediately picks up on the meaning behind my question. “Caleb I am not glass and youdid not hurt me. I wanted it, and I am pretty sure that I was ready. I healed a long time ago from theloss of our pup, I just was not ready mentally. I feel great, a little sleepy, but other than that I amfine. So, stop your worrying over that, and get up. We have to make sure everything is good for thesummer bash tonight, plus we have the whole Axle, Clint, Hannah situation. Any idea when we canexpect the messenger from the elders to be back?” Just like that my mate was out of bed andalready getting her clothes ready for the day.

"Knowing Theo as well as I do I assume he sent someone that is like him, so our runner will notreturn unless they have gained some kind of knowledge about the situation. Unfortunately, thatcould take a day or a month, we just have to wait and see. In the meantime, I will go talk to Axle. Ioffered everyone a tour of our training facility after breakfast, so I need to get a move on to catchhim early.” I watched as Daphne slipped on a cute pair of jeans shorts and decided that I need totaste her lips immediately.

She yelped in surprise as I walked over and gently pushed her against the wall by our closet. Shestarted to protest, and I took advantage of the situation by caressing her lips with mine and slippingmy tongue in her mouth. It did not take long before she wrapped her arms around my neck andpressed her body fully against mine. I grabbed her waist and lifted her up, allowing her to wrap herlegs around my waist, as I used the wall to help support her never breaking the contact I have withher lips. I rocked my hips up so that she could feel the affect she has on me. I knew that if I did notput her down and move away soon that we were going to end up naked again. Daphne whimperedwhen I broke the kiss and gently placed her feet back on the ground.

"What was that for?” She asked me breathlessly. I smiled as I looked at her red lips, and pointynipples knowing that she was as turned on as I am.

“I just wanted to taste you again before we got too busy today.” She laughed and wadded up hershirt and threw it at me. “Hey at least I am honest.” I give her a cheeky grin as I toss the shirt back toher. It is these little moments that I love the most.

I quickly donned my shirt, shorts, and grabbed my tennis shoes. I was hoping that I could get Axleto go on a small run with me. I walked over and gave Daphne another quick kiss before darting outof our room.

Axle and Corey were our only guests that were not staying at the pack house. Due to his reaction toHannah, we had felt it was best that they bunk down in our warrior lodging. I wasted no time exitingthe main house and heading in that direction. To my surprise I ran into Brandon, and I could tell thathe had something on his mind, as he walked over to me.

“Alpha may I talk with you for a moment?” He asks me hesitantly. I slow my pace and nod yes tohim. “I am struggling a lot with the Hannah, and Axle situation. To be honest I have felt until recentlythat Hannah and I were meant to be destined mates. I mean how could the Moon Goddess notmake us for each other. We are both peculiar wolves, we get along amazingly, and she is the mostbeautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on. How am I supposed to be ok with all of this?” Theexasperation in his voice is painful, and I can tell that he has been pining for her for a long time."Does Hannah know that you feel this way about her?”

“No.” He sighs and looks down at his feet. “I had assumed that when she turned eighteen that wewould have that moment of connection and she would realize it. I did not want to ruin that for her. Iknow how much she loves those stupid romantic movies, and I wanted her to be able to have amoment like that.” I am proud of the boy for having considered her feelings.

We are almost to the warrior lodgings, so I stop and look at Brandon fully. “Brandon, I think you arean amazing young man, and you have great leadership skills. I have no idea if Hannah feelsromantically towards you or not. I will say this though, the Moon Goddess pairs us with our destinedmate for various reasons. Even if Hannah is not your destined mate, I know that the Moon Goddesshas someone specially picked out just for you.” I could see that my words helped him only slightly.“Brandon I will also say this much, Axle swears that he felt the mate bond with Hannah, but Hannahis not sure she feels it. There are a million reasons why this may have happened. One being that sheis a peculiar wolf, and we need to keep that under wraps for now. There is also a small possibilitythat Hannah is already of age, I mean she was a slave before and does not remember much of herchildhood. We have a runner at the elder council now hopefully getting some kind of insight intothe situation. Just know that I would never allow someone to take Hannah unless I was beyond surethat they were her destined mate.” That seemed to perk him up more. He thanked me for the talkand turned to head to the training facility.

With a sigh I continue to head into the warrior lodging, but as I look up, I am startled to replace Axlestanding outside of the door.

“So, you do not intend to allow me to take my mate with me?” His voice is cold, and I instantly snapinto combat mode. He looks as if he is sizing me up.

“No at the moment I will not allow you to take Hannah from here. To our knowledge she is not ofage yet, plus she is also in school. She also is unsure as to whether she felt the mate bond with youWe have a runner at the elder council now, until we have answers she stays.” His response was adeep growl, and I braced in case he decided to launch into an attack. “If you are willing to walk withme and listen calmly, I have a proposition for you.” I had envisioned this meeting going differently,but my talk with Brandon has made that an option no longer.

Axle considers my words for a moment before sneering at me. “Well, it seems as if I have no otherchoice.” He stalked towards me, clearly unhappy with everything.

I decide that the best path to take was the one heading to the training facility. After a few feet I hadplanned out what I intended to say. “Axle I know that this has been unexpected from everyone. I amnot trying to keep you from your destined mate, but even you have to admit that something aboutit seems off.” I look over and see that some of his anger has dissipated, taking that as a good sign Icontinue. “Hannah is like a niece to me. She was a slave, and Theo and I raised her. It is ratherworrisome that she has not felt that mate bond with you.”

“As you said though she is not of age yet.” He quickly interrupts me.

“Exactly my point Axle. When have you ever heard of someone feeling the mate bond when theother person is still underage?” I stop forcing him to look me in the eyes. Finally, he sighs in defeat.“I am not an unreasonable man, nor do I believe that you are being untruthful. I am asking for moretime to figure out the situation, and I believe that Hannah wants this time as well. I am offering toallow you to stay here a while longer. During that time, you may spend some time with Hannah ifshe chooses too." I stress the last part clearly. If for one second, he thinks that he can force himselfupon Hannah I will end his life swiftly.

“I did not mean to scare her when I first met her.” He says softly.

“Feeling the mate bond can be an overwhelming feeling.” I answer truthfully.

“I am not opposed to your proposition; however, I do need to get ahold of my father and see if hecan handle things with the pack for a while longer.”

“I need to make one thing extremely clear Axle. If you try to mark Hannah or hurt her, I will nothesitate to end your life.” I tell him

“I have no intentions of ever hurting her.” He seems sincere.

We shake hands and decide to head to the pack house for some breakfast. At least we have oneproblem on hold at the moment. This day is starting to turn out great.
