The Ancient Genes -
Chapter 777 - Impostor
The night before the beginning of the competition…
"Think again, little Master….this is not a good idea.." Uncle giant almost had tears in his eyes as he tried to persuade Bahamut to abort this dangerous mission.
"Nothing will go wrong, trust me. I have this in control.." Bahamut tried to assure him. The scene looked pretty funny. A little kid patting a giant man's thigh trying to assure him nothing would go wrong.
Victor was also in the room with a calm look on his face. He wasn't too worried in all honesty. But, he had to give it to Bahamut, he didn't think that the kid would have balls to think something as outrageous as their current plan.
If it failed, and they end up getting caught, he couldn't even begin to imagine the kind of havoc it would cause for the Zen House, and for them if they survived.
One more thing, there was an unconscious guy lying in the corner of the room. His body was tied in mana sealing chains, and if you were to give it a closer look, you surely would recognize this familiar face.
It was Xenon Frost.
The Celestial from the Frost House, and also the leader of Blue City Academy.
His performance had been pretty average in comparison to the other Celestials or team leaders. And, he was now ranked the lowest among the list of celestials. The dude had a pretty bad season.
But, it was still not as bad as Ocean who was last in the rankings right now.
As for why he was here, well….
Let's just say, it was the result of some kid's evil plans..
….
Competition Grounds, Ishtar.
Current Situation…
The fights were going on, and everything seemed normal on the surface. But, was that truly the case?
Things were a bit different in the Supervisory room of the Competition.
This was the place from where the formation was being controlled, and the people who are eliminated during the competition end up here. And, depending on their condition, it is further decided whether they are sent to hospital first or back to their respective stands.
Today, the Supervisor of the competition was a top tier Mage from the Storm House, Rufus Storm. And, for some reason, his face didn't look good at all.
'Who are these people? And, how did they know about it?' He muttered inwardly with a frown on his face.
Last night, he had received a letter..
And, it honestly shocked him to the core.
The sender of the letter was clearly aware of the fact that he was a spy in Storm House, and was originally from the Zen House. They were even aware of the fact that he was going to overlook Faryl's change in the competition tomorrow.
This really made his face turn dark. He had been undercover for so long that one couldn't even think of. He actually was born into the Storm House, and inherited this spying mission from his father who had similarly inherited it from his own.
And, years of hard work was at stake here.
Was it really going to fail during his time, and when he was so close to the finish?
Thankfully, this person didn't seem keen on exposing him. He was willing to keep quiet as long as he did a favor to him.
The favor was to overlook another person in the competition tomorrow along with Faryl, and also to follow a little script prepared beforehand.
Rufus knew that he couldn't trust such a person as they could expose him once they had gotten what they wanted, and continuing to operate in the current position could be dangerous for him in that situation. But, he was adamant to take chances. Their family had a good amount of power within the Storm House, and he himself was one of the Elders, even though lower in rank.
If someone wanted to frame him, they had to give it their all. After all, his family had a long history in the Storm House, who would believe it if someone said they were spies?
Secondly, he had always worked for the best of the Storms. After all, he himself was a storm wholeheartedly. He only came to know about being a spy when he inherited the family from his father.
Initially, it was very hard for him to accept that they were betraying their own. But, he soon became calm when he understood the meaning of the mission. It was not actually to betray the Storm but to replace the traitor in the Storm House, the person who was a tumor not only for the Storms but for the whole of humanity.
Hence, he taking this risk today. But, before doing anything, he made the Zen's aware of the matter. And, this really caused havoc back at Bahamut's home. His Grandfather was furious, and he could only think of a traitor in the house, especially after they found spying devices in the Lord's chamber.
The Lord of the Zen had the worst day in his life facing the fury of his father which he hadn't faced in years. He clearly had no idea when someone managed to place these things around. And so a purge was started in the Zen House to clear away suspicious people.
But, that didn't have much to do with Rufus, instead, he was given a green light to go ahead, and investigate these people.
'I can't fail here…I need to replace out who these people are..' Rufus muttered as a cold look flashed into his eyes, and he concentrated on the presence in the competition, which he had made sure to keep hidden from everyone else.
This person was Xenon Frost.
At least on the surface…
The moment this guy entered the competition ground, Rufus knew that he wasn't the same guy. It was someone else in disguise. But, as promised, he overlooked it.
And, later when Xenon got eliminated, Rufus once again did what was prepared for him in the script beforehand.
Instead of being transported back, the guy was transported to another location in the competition ground, and his presence was completely hidden from the outside world.
And, for the people who came to look for Xenon after he got eliminated, well, they were sent to hospital where the real Xenon was still unconscious.
As for the impostor…
….
Arnold stood on a rocky cliff looking at the fight raging in the distance. There was a complicated look in his eyes, and it really irked him when he saw Arthur taking out the Beast Core and using it on his opponents.
'This crazy b*stard…is he looking for death..' He grinded his teeth in anger. He perfectly knew why the Beast Core was given to Arthur, and yet this b*stard used it on them instead of using it to protect himself.
Did he still naively think that Arnold would spare him? They were brothers?
This was getting frustrating for Arnold, and he hated Arthur even more for it…
"So much anger is not good for health.." A voice entered Arnold's ear, and his figure froze for a second. He then slowly turned his head and just snorted on seeing the person in front of him, "Mind your own business.."
He really was in no mood to act anymore. And, this had been his stated since the morning, and it had honestly surprised a lot of people who knew him.
"Sure, I will do that." The person calmly replied, and then sat down on the rock ground to see the fight in the distance, without caring for Arnold at all.
This guy was Xenon Frost of the Blue City Academy.
He was actually eliminated earlier, but Arnold had no idea about it. He just gave the guy a look with a frown on his face. He wasn't going to fight now, but he wasn't going to let his guard down as well.
….
Arena, Ishtar Academy.
A kid, and a giant teddy bear sat in the audience watching the match.
"Are you sure this is going to work?" The teddy bear suddenly asked the kid.
"Of course, mascots are pretty common in games these days. No one will recognize you." The kid nodded, and it was clear from his face that he was very proud of this idea.
"I am talking about that guy you sent in there.." the teddy replied helplessly.
"Well, it should. People are weak when their emotion guide their decision. And, there are very thin lines among which emotions are differentiated. I just need to give him a little push, and he would be in my palm.." The kid replied with a smile, and it honestly send chill down the giant guy's spine.. Even he sometimes felt scared of the kid.
