I groaned, rolling over in the large bed, pulling the duvet around me tighter as I tried

to fall back into a deep slumber. But sleep evaded me, and so did the memories of how

I came to be in bed. The light burned my eyes when I opened them, causing me to gasp and hide my face, footsteps drawing closer to me.

"You are awake then." Came Ryker's voice, though it harboured no emotion.

I sigh, pushing the covers away from my face. "I would rather not be."

If only I could remember what my dream was about, I know it was something important, but my brain can't recall anything.

All I see is darkness.

Ryker growls, and I begin smell smoke. "I don't have time for your games Elora, we have been waiting three days for you to wake up. We are running out of time."

He sits me up roughly, pulling me to the edge of the bed as I gasped, three days? It couldn't be possible. He was trying to trick me for some reason.

I open my eyes again, slowly adjusting to the light as I look around, a doctor packing away a small bag and leaving the room as I watched.

I didn't even realise that we weren't alone.

Why did I feel so strange?

"No one can sleep for that long and survive, you're playing with me." I scoff, crossing my arms.

Ryker kneels in front of me, his fire-like eyes glazing over with anger. "You know me well enough to realise I would never lie to you, what makes you think I am now?"

I frown, glancing at the window to see that it was the middle of the night, but the last thing that I remember was when I was in the bath... I was trying to warm up after being attacked.

I told Ryker that I was useless without my magic, and he had agreed, he snapped the anklet and released my powers from the dark place they had been kept.

My powers!

I jump to my feet, feeling the familiar hum of magic in my blood, my body once again feeling whole. It was like reuniting with a missing piece of my soul.

I laugh, spinning in a tight circle out of pure joy, Ryker stepping back as he watched me, his eyebrows raised. But I didn't care if he thought I was being stupid or not, I had my magic back with me, and that is all that mattered.

I would no longer have to fear my surroundings or worry that I would be killed before anyone came to rescue me.

I was free. Almost.

I stopped, my shoulders dropping slightly as the realisation of what he said sunk in. Yes, Ryker had agreed that I needed my magic right now, but that didn't mean he wouldn't take it away again. I needed to be careful.

"Was I in a coma?" I asked, it's the only reason I could think of as to why I was asleep for so long.

I needed to calm down, I couldn't allow myself to hope, not when it caused more pain than good. They could take it all away before I can get Miya and leave.

They could destroy me from the inside out, even with my powers by my side.

"When I pulled off the anklet your body shut down, the magic was too much for you to handle all at once." Ryker says, watching me closely.

He expected me to attack him now that I could, I could sense it. I could feel his unease as though it was my own.

"I've never been without my powers before, not for any length of time." I murmur, sitting back down on the end of the bed. "I suppose it is entirely possible that my body shut down so that I could regenerate the power that I had lost due to the anklet you placed on me."

Ryker nods, cautiously stepping forward. "I would have to agree with you on that, but you are awake now and that means that we can move forward with the plan." "What plan?" I ask uneasily, pulling the blanket around my shoulders as the cold air seeped into me.

"The plan to return home and destroy Darax and his followers."

Of course, the shape shifter who wants to destroy my race wants us to go to his realm,

it couldn't possibly be a trap. Ugh.

"What if he destroys us first?" I ask, shivering at the thought.

I didn't want to die.

I wanted a long and healthy life.

Ryker sits beside me on the bed and pulls me onto his lap, the cold air quickly replaced with the warmth of his body. "He won't. He needs me and Maddox to keep our people in line, and he knows that killing you would mean war."

"That doesn't mean he won't try." I push further in his embrace, my mind suddenly soothed by his touch.

"He can try as much as he likes, he will NOT succeed."

"You can't promise that." I murmur, breathing in his calming scent.

It was like I couldn't get enough of his touch, he needed to feel him everywhere, I needed to be closer, I needed to be filled.

I pepper kisses along his bare shoulder, the tightness of his muscles beginning to ease, it wasn't just me who was affected by the bond, he felt it too, no matter how much he tries to resist it.

I moan softly, leaning closer as I sink my teeth into his neck, the strange tangy taste of blood assaulting my tongue. Ryker growls and yet moans at the same time, his arms tightening around my ass.

I bite down harder, wanting more of him.

He tastes so good.

I jump back, horrified that I had just bitten The Dragon King himself. He is going to kill

me!

I nervously glance up at his face, his eyes slightly closer and his head bent back.

Since when did I bite people?

What is wrong with me?

Instead of demanding an explanation, Ryker chuckles, adjusting me of his lap as something presses into my bottom. "Don't be embarrassed, little fae. It's the bond." "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to draw blood."

He laughs again, sharp teeth littering his mouth, "Now you have had your taste of me, I demand one in return."

I pale, shaking my head in protest as he gently lays me on my back, pushing open my

legs and kneeling between them.

"You can't be serious." I growl, trying to push him away.

"You start it Elora, now I am going to finish it."

I open my mouth to protest but before a sound can leave me his lips crash against

mine, devouring me in a desperate kiss.

All the reasons I could think to stop him evaporated, leaving only a burning need for

more.

I wanted this dragon to destroy me, and if I wasn't careful, that is exactly what he would do.
