Blinding, crippling, unrelenting fear.

That is what I feel in my chest.

The uncertainty of the future is unsettling, it's hard boiled all of my muscles and tied them together.

It's stealing my breath and depriving me of valuable oxygen.

It's unraveling the mask of bravery that I fought so hard to make and shattering it into a billion of tiny pieces.

Miya and I lay on the bed for a while, neither of us saying a word, she had agreed to do what they ask of her, but she wasn't so sure about the new realm we were going to be taken to tonight. If I was honest, I wasn't either.

I didn't know what to expect.

I didn't know if it was the same as this one, or completely different. Would there even be a sun in the sky? Do they have stars at night?

I hope they have stars. They comfort me.

What doesn't comfort me is not knowing the future, if that had been my power none of this would have happened. All of the pain and suffering could have been avoided.

I would have evacuated the farm before they ever got there.

The attack wouldn't have happened.

I wouldn't have been captured.

I wouldn't be facing a rebellion to take control of a world I knew nothing about.

I wouldn't be so afraid.

A knock at the door pulls both of us to our feet, startling gasps from both of our lips, and I sigh, it probably means our time is up, and as much as I want to stay with Miya, I know that I can't cause any problems.

I don't want to give them a reason to go back on what they said. I can't risk them deciding to kill her.

Not matter how much I want to stay and waste away the day with her by my side.

It is a reminder of a time when we thought we could be happy, where we were safe, or as safe as anyone can be these days.

That safety has been replaced by two headstrong mates, both hellbent on keeping me by their side for the rest of my life.

And seen as I am immortal now, the rest of my life is going to be a long, long time. "Suer is that you?" I shout, not daring to approach the door.

Knowing my luck it'll be another hellhound intent of ripping me apart. Or an immortal monster who wants to drain me of all my blood.

"Yes, we have to go." He calls through the door, his voice sounding urgent. "You have been called to King Ryker's office."

I sigh again, turning to Miya. I grab her hands gently, "I'll see you later?"

She smiles, "it isn't like I'm going anywhere, remember?"

She was trying to make a joke, but my heart aches all the same. She's trapped. We both are.

"One day." I whisper, laying my forehead against hers.

"One day." She repeats.

Another knock pulls us apart, my hands neglecting to let her go, my heart holding onto every curvature of her face.

I loved her. It was true.

But I love her the way you love a little sister, pure and beautiful. Completely different to how I feel about my mates.

I doubt I'll ever grow to love them. But do I want them? Yes. I do.

My body wants to be around them, always.

It's suffocating.

"I'm coming!" I shout, another knock piercing the silence. I release Miya, "I'll try to see you later, when we leave."

She nods, smiling at me sadly.

I don't say anything else; I simply walk to the door and pull it open, unable to look Suer in the face. If I did he would see my heart breaking.

He would see the pain in my eyes.

And then he says three words that destroy my world and leave it crumbling at my feet. "Darax is here."

Shit. Fuck.

"Why?" I say, turning to glance up at my guard as we make our way back to the front of the mansion.

"He wants to make sure that everything is sorted, he hasn't visited this much in all the years we have been here." Suer shakes his head, "he's planning something."

My heart shatters and my mind screams with fear.

"Do you think it's because of me?" I ask, but I already know the answer.

I already know that my suspicion is true.

Suer looks at me from the corner of his eye, "He's a lot more interested now that you

are in the picture."

Fuck.

I was afraid to be right. I was afraid that would be his reason for coming along so much. And it only means one thing, one terrible thing.

I'm in more danger than I thought.
