The Divine Wolf... or?
Chapter 119: Healing!

Since he didn't want to wake up the small cub, Ark just kept lying where he laid and sent streams of mana to the mother wolf lying on the ground. After almost twenty minutes had passed, his mana was beginning to run low again, and Ark decided that it was for the better if he just kept going like this, healing the wolf with a set number of steady intervals.

Though the wolf was healing at a very rapid pace, Ark wasn't really sure how long it would actually take to heal her until she was completely healthy again, and when he did, how would she react?

From the cubs perspective, Ark was their saviour who had saved its mom, but how would the mother react? He wasn't really sure, but he didn't really let it bother him too much either way. Even though he, for some inexplicable reason, didn't want to just part ways with them when he woke up.

Many thoughts ran across Ark's mind constantly, and it was hard for him to have a positive mindset sometimes considering all the different negative thoughts that always invaded his mind, but he tried his best to have a somewhat positive outlook on things.

The unfamiliar feeling he felt when the cub was lying next to him, wasn't something Ark wanted to lose, even though he didn't even know what it actually was.

As time trickled by, the cub eventually woke up. Concerned about its mother, the only thing the small cub could do was clean her affectionately, and cuddle with her. Though Ark was a little saddened by the sight at first, as more and more time passed, the sadness turned into determination instead. It would benefit the small cub more if he was determined to save its mother instead of moping about it.

Though he wanted to save her, that was easier said than done. Ark's healing capabilities were remarkable for sure, but healing someone that was knocking on death's door would take time, and Ark wasn't sure how much it would actually take yet.

The next day arrived quickly, and nothing had really changed. The mother's wound was still not entirely healed, and she wasn't going to wake up just yet, so Ark just kept healing her persistently, hoping that it would speed up the process by at least a little bit. Even though he had eaten a little the day before, Ark was a little famished, but he couldn't just leave them here by themselves.

What if another magical beast happened upon them and took advantage of the situation? Ark wouldn't let that happen since that would kind of ruin the whole point of doing all of this in the first place right?

That being said, Ark couldn't just do all of this on an empty stomach, and he came up with his own little plan. Though it was a little weird, it didn't really bother him. That being said, Ark conjured up some wind blades, and then let them lacerate one of his legs. After plenty of blood had spilt onto the ground, Ark used some healing magic on himself and patched himself up.

The little cub was alarmed at first by his behaviour, but after seeing Ark heal himself, the only thing that was left was intrigue. This little cub had no idea what the point of Ark's actions were, but it had a feeling that it was something important.

Ark's position in the little cub's heart was far from ordinary, and it just naturally looked up to him at this point. After about 20 minutes had passed, Ark's actions finally bore fruit, as a majestic white tiger waltzed straight into the premises. This time, Ark didn't let the white tiger attack first, and he surprised it himself, ending the proud beast in a single clean attack.

Now, one of Ark's problems was already solved, food. After dividing it between himself and the cub, Ark devoured his portion of the food in close to an instant, leaving some of its blood on the ground, Ark wasn't satisfied yet.

Not long after, a couple more magical beasts arrived one after one, all dying under the tremendous power of Ark's paws. The cub noted Ark's actions down in its mind, and then happily ate a large amount of meat. Like this, three more days quickly passed with Ark healing the cub's mother, as well as using this method of his to hunt some prey.

To his surprise, his status actually changed somewhat during these three days, which he hadn't anticipated at all at first.

First of all, he had gained another four levels from killing numerous magical beasts. He invested the 20 stat points he gained evenly between wisdom and intelligence for now, since he had no better idea. Second of all, he had sort of gained a new skill, namely Wolf's tongue.

The weird part about this skill was the box next to it, which signified that it was an inherent skill, something you were born with. This skill allowed Ark to communicate with and understand other wolves, which was good and all, but Ark couldn't understand why he had gotten it now? The prompt said that it was because he tried to communicate with another wolf, namely the little cub.

What Ark didn't understand was why he didn't have this in the first place when he woke up in this body.

Was there a specific reason behind it? He didn't know, but it worried him a little bit. This system was a big part of his life and strength, not knowing how it worked was a little scary. He was still happy he got it though since it helped him with his current situation quite a lot.

"Papa, food!"

Speaking of which, had become a little odd. The little cub seemed to have misunderstood something and thought that Ark was his dad. Even though he had tried numerous times to get the little cub to understand, it didn't seem like it wanted to acknowledge that Ark wasn't it's "papa". Ark didn't really think that it was too bad though.

Feeling needed wasn't really that bad once in a while, and the feeling he got from it was different from the feeling he would associate with that of friends. Even though he still had some difficulty understanding it, he didn't really mind.

He had grown really fond of this cub even though he had only been with it for a couple of days. Being in close contact with someone else for days was guaranteed to bring you closer to each other though, and Ark didn't really see it as something weird. Hearing the small cub ask for food, Ark could only laugh a little before he used the same method as always to lure some prey.

He had noted that this small cub benefitted greatly from all of the magical beast meat he was eating. It had already grown noticeably, and it seemed like it had grown stronger as a result too.

Ark was happy for the little thing and giving it food to eat was oddly satisfying. To see the small cub gobble up any food that was given to it with fervour would easily bring a smile to Ark's face.

Though it seemed like Ark just idled away his time like this, he made sure to practice his body refining skill during these days too, as wasting time by just lying around wasn't very suitable with his personality. Practising the body refining skill didn't really take anything away from his relaxation anyways, it was a win-win situation.

Food soon arrived in the form of a large bird with golden wings, gliding across the sky at high speeds. Ark didn't let it even react before he cut it in two with the help of ice magic. Ark was almost beginning to get a little bored of killing all these small-fry.

Even though he had never been much of a battle-junkie, an exciting fight was still something which he would like to experience every now and then. That would have to wait until he was done here though, he couldn't just leave now. After coming this far, Ark had to at least take responsibility for giving this small cub the hope of getting its mother back.

...

In a small tavern in the outskirts of a village in Estridsen, the business was as per usual. Three drunks sat at the bar, drinking every single one of their worries away, as well as their pennies. Some people were rowdy, playing games with each other, joking around, eating food, and just all around having a good time.

In a rather secluded corner of the tavern, a dwarf sat by himself, sipping from a cup.

No one in the establishment walked too close to him, or even spared him a glance for that matter, he was a dwarf after all. The dwarf looked like he was in a bad mood, and he just sat in silence and sipped on his drink. Thufrat was feeling down at the moment. Alenia had some things to attend to in Liverence, and Ark was nowhere to be seen. He was all alone again.

With nothing to do and money to spend, all he could really do for entertainment was drink. Even though he had enough self-discipline to not get drunk, he was still rather sad.

[I hope I can replace you soon Ark, I had forgotten what it felt like being alone...]
