Chapter 94:

“Miss Murray, this is impossible!” Sherry raised her head and couldn’t help but look up at him, at the cold Old Master Rowland.

Her face scrunched up tightly and she finally knew who William looked like.

That poise, those looks, they were truly father and son.

John looked at her judiciously and thought to himself that she didn’t look that much older.

In the beginning, when they were looking for a surrogate, she was only seventeen. So now she was twenty-three.

“How do you do, Miss Murray?”

Sherry was stunned and quickly said, “Mr. Rowland, I’m fine, how are you?”

“Miss Murray, I’ll be honest! I’m sure you understand that you were just a surrogate mother. Even if you are outstanding now, that wouldn’t change the fact that you were once a surrogate mother.” His words were like a heavy hammer hitting her heart.

Instantly, she felt as if her heart had shattered into a thousand pieces. The cruelty of the comment chilled her heart and hurt like hell.

“Miss Murray, you should know what kind of industry the Rowland Family is in. Sammy is my grandson and will one day inherit the Family business. Do you want others to dig up his past and reveal that his mother was once a surrogate? Do you think when that happens, he will still be able to inherit the Rowland Group? Maybe the stock prices will plummet when that happens. Do you want your son to live in shame?” What he said chilled Sherry’s heart to the core!

He was right. She only cared about her own feelings and soothing her conscience, but she never thought about what was best for Sammy.

She was not a competent mother, never was.

“Miss, I can understand the feelings of a mother who has lost a son, but the successor to the Rowland Family must receive a strict and cruel upbringing to make him a strong leader. William lost his mother when he was born and became a good man. My grandson Sammy can do it too. So, Miss Murray, do you understand what I mean?” John was cool and calm.

Sherry lowered her head and tears flooded her eyes, but she controlled them. She didn’t say a word, but she felt as if a knife had pierced and twisted her heart. It hurt so much she could hardly breathe.

“Besides! William is the director of the Rowland Group. Even if he kicked him out, that doesn’t change that he’s going to take out the Rowland Group. Miss Murray, you are not fit to be with him! We must stay within our social status, don’t you think?”

“I understand!” Sherry said this with immense pain and difficulty.

“What are your terms?” John didn’t expect her to agree so flatly.

“Give Sammy more love. He’s very shy. I just want him to be happy and live a good life like a normal child. Please tell him that I’m not his mom. It was his father who wanted him to be happy and asked me to be his temporary mom for a few days. Mr. Rowland, you are Sammy’s grandfather and I am sure you can understand my feelings. We all want the best for the child. It is enough for me to know that Sammy is doing well. I’m sorry my son Dan upset you today. Rest assured that we will not intrude in his life again.”

Sherry took a deep breath, turned and left. A tear rolled down her cheek as she walked out. She didn’t know what she felt, except that her whole body ached immensely. Every step she took was like walking on a blade. That’s what it felt like to be in a meat grinder. The pain was so intense that it hurt to breathe. Even the air was suffocating.

“Sammy, Mommy’s leaving, I’m sorry!” Sherry murmured in her heart.

Her head ached and she squinted her eyes to contain the intense pain and hurt. A tear rolled down her cheek and then, It didn’t flow again! She suddenly regretted recognizing that she was Sammy’s mother.

Maybe she should have watched him from a distance, Maybe she could accept that he would never have a mother, but to have one halfway through and then lose her again was very traumatizing! When she thought about it, she had only herself to blame!

Sherry didn’t know how she had gotten back to the YX Street apartments. When she arrived, she saw Mrs. Howe accompanying Dan as they waited for her. Her expression was calm and perhaps sleepy. She was practically devoid of emotion.

“Mom!” cried Dan.

“Miss Murray, how are you?” Mrs. Howe approached and saw that Sherry’s face was pale and looked like she had cried.

Mrs. Howe was concerned and asked, “Miss Murray, are you all right?”

“Thank you, I’m fine!” Sherry grabbed Dan’s hand, “Dan, let’s go home. Thank you for sending him back.”

“Your son is so smart! Miss Murray, I didn’t expect you to be Sammy’s mother…!” Mrs. Howe wanted to say something, but Sherry wouldn’t let her.

At that moment she was so lost that her mind was blank.

“I’m not Sammy’s mother!” she interrupted and continued, “That was just to please Sammy. I signed a contract with William. I’m sorry, I have other business to attend to. I won’t stay and chat.”

After saying that, Sherry led her son and entered the apartment.

“Goodbye, Grandma!” said Dan politely before the door closed.

Mrs. Howe was stunned. She took one look at the door and wondered, No, could it be?

“Mom!” Dan thought she was mad at him.

“Dan, be a good boy and go back to your room. Mommy needs some quiet time alone.” Sherry felt exhausted.

She got up and headed for her bedroom. That could never change. That could never change. Sammy had been born under a contract and she had a right to be Sammy’s mother.

He was to become the successor to the Rowland Group. The Rowland Family would not allow the successor to have a single blemish!

Sherry leaned out on the balcony to take a look outside the window and was quickly stunned. Suddenly, the sunny sky was covered with clouds, then it began to turn dark and gloomy.

The wind was blowing hard and rustling the leaves. Soon it began to rain and fell on the chrysanthemum in the courtyard.

Sherry crossed her arms in front of her body and looked out on the balcony.

The cold wind was blowing in, but she didn’t close the window. She began to shiver, and when darkness came, she sat down on the floor, but her eyes were empty, and she couldn’t focus.

The rain splashed and soaked her whole body. Her dry eyes hurt because there were no more tears to cry. Her mind had become cluttered. She cleared her mind in the midst of the chaos.

She could no longer reach Sammy. No matter how much she wanted to see him, no matter how much it hurt. The pain in her chest was radiating and she couldn’t take it anymore.

The hand clutching at her chest clawed violently at the wall next to her out of frustration.

Fresh blood dripped from her fingertips and instantly the pain from her fingers spread throughout her body.

How could she still feel pain? She smiled as if in a daze and stopped struggling. She curled up in the corner of the balcony like when her mother abandoned her and Daniel.

She curled into a fetal position and didn’t think about anything or worry about anything. She just curled up tightly, silently, letting all the pain wash over her face.

At the airport.

Sherry held onto her son’s hand and headed for the boarding area.

“Mommy, where are we going?” Dan was puzzled, which was why he had asked Sherry.

Yesterday, when they had returned, Mom had locked herself in her room and the next day she had said she would take him and not stay there anymore.

“We’re going back to the town where we used to live!” said Sherry very calmly.

Her phone rang at that moment. Sherry lowered her head and saw a familiar name on the screen.

Her heart ached, but she canceled the call.

“Dan, Mom will go get the boarding pass. Don’t go. Wait for Mom here.” Sherry had him sit in a chair.

“Yes!” Dan took over the phone and Sherry’s bags, then sat quietly watching his luggage.

The phone rang again and Dan saw it was William’s, “Ah, it’s Uncle!”

Dan didn’t know what was wrong and answered the call.

“Sherry, where are you?” said William solemnly.

“Uncle! It’s not Mom, it’s Dan!” Dan laughed.

“Oh! Dan, where are you?”

“Uncle, we’re leaving soon. Mommy doesn’t want Sammy anymore. Mommy said Sammy is not her son. You and Mommy lied to make Sammy happy. Uncle, it’s not right to lie!”

“Where are you going?”

“Back to town. Bye, Uncle!” Dan said and was about to end the call.

“Dan, don’t hang up. Where are you?” He had never felt so anxious.

What had happened to make Sherry say that Sammy wasn’t her son? Could it be that his father had talked to her?

“We’re at the airport, man, Mom’s getting the boarding passes out!” Dan said.

“Wait there, I’ll be right there!” shouted William. He took a long flight back and called her once he got off the plane.

He never expected her to want to leave and that she didn’t even want her own son.

This damn woman, didn’t she tell him she could arrange everything properly?

“Alexis, I’m going to the departure lounge. Come back, don’t wait for me,” William said to Alexis Houston, who was wearing a white business suit.

“What happened?” Alexis asked calmly out of concern.

“Just a little problem!” But it was clear from William’s expression that it was not a simple matter.

Alexis raised her eyebrows and said mischievously, “I’ll come with you!”

The two men walked briskly toward the departure lounge with several bodyguards dressed in black suits following close behind, catching everyone’s eye as they walked.

In the departure lounge, William looked around each and every corner in search of Sherry.

Sherry grabbed the boarding passes and gave Dan a look, “Let’s go!”.

Dan looked down the aisle and thought, Didn’t the guy say to wait? Then why hadn’t he arrived yet?

“Mom, I need to pee!” Dan said suddenly.

“Ah! Mommy will take you to the bathroom!” Sherry led him toward a bathroom on the left.

Just as they passed an elevator, it opened.

William and Alexis were in the elevator and saw them immediately.

“Sherry!” shouted William.

Sherry looked up and saw William. He was wearing a black business suit and there wasn’t a wrinkle in it. He looked very handsome and dapper. Sherry was stunned when he looked into her eyes.

Why was he here?

Dan glanced at William and saw him approaching with long strides.

Alexis’ eyes narrowed and she thought, hmm, this was interesting, really intriguing! Will was furious with a woman! This is going to get interesting!
