The Supreme Level Up System -
Chapter 168 Revealing The Truth
The group traveled on foot and through the sky for a day and a half. Since they all were in a hurry, they traveled in silence, but then they reached the nearest port town, and then Sauros asked Aion to use his magic again.
"Our ship is hidden and not in the port. It will be faster if we fly there," Sauros said. "Fortunately, the sun has already set, so no one will notice it."
Aion nodded and then created another platform and flew to where Sauros said. When they approached, he didn't see anything. However, he noticed that the waves were colliding with something before reaching the shore. Eventually, they crossed a barrier and then they found the ship there and those guys in clad dark armor.
"This is our best ship, the Breeze of the Sea," Sauros said.
Aside from the power to create a barrier that turns it invisible to those away, the ship looked a lot more developed than the ones Aion had. There weren't many ropes around, but there were many levers to control all sorts of parts of the ship, from the sails to the armor of the ship. They also had some cannons… Aion's ships mostly were fifty meters long, but that was three times longer…
"I thought most ships were called like the widow's cry or sea's serpent," Aion said.
"Those are the names of pirate ships… You have your own fleet. You named them like that?" Seris asked.
"No, it was too much of a hassle," Aion said. "The captains named them, but I never asked what they choose.".
"Anyway, the ship is big, and we have w cabin for you, but all of the cabins are relatively small," Sauros said.
"No problem, I wasn't planning to move a lot inside a ship," Aion said.
" I will guide you to your cabin. After that, we will talk about what you want to ask," Sauros said. "I am sure you have noticed that I kept some things hidden during that conversation."
"I thought that you were hiding things, and the king must have noticed as well," Aion said. "Are you sure you want to be on his bad side?"
"Our allegiance is to our mission, not to any king or pieces of land," Sauros said. "I told him enough to make him aware of the danger that has been lurking in this world since ancient times. But I can't expect much more from him. Our ancestors tried to work together with many monarchs, and in the end, they always ended up regretting it."
"So, you still recall a lot of your history… including about the god and goddess?" Aion asked.
"Only the goddess can answer your questions. Those two were the only ones who survived the battle that they participated in," Sauros replied. "The civilians of the past could only guess what happened."
Aion was interested in hearing more, so he decided to unpack his things, and then once he finished, he went to the captain's cabin. Around the same time, the ship sailed. It has been a while since Aion got on something that could shake so much, but he got used to it pretty fast. Regardless, he found Sauros and Seris having dinner there. Once they finished it, they began to talk.
"What do you want to ask?" Sauros asked.
"You guys only know things after the two achieved what they wanted, right?" Aion asked. "How much time has passed since that time?"
"Around three thousand years," Sauros replied. "We have registers about the life span of our leaders and for how long they focused on their mission so that estimation is pretty accurate."
"You mentioned regrets about trusting the monarchs of this world. Did they try to use the relics to obtain that power?" Aion asked.
"As expected, you understand things quickly," Sauros said. "For someone greedy who has a lot, what do you think is the worst thing?"
"Getting on their hands everything they desire?" Aion frowned.
"Kind of, once they obtain everything on the reach of their hands, they will try to obtain things that are beyond them," Sauros said. "Our family's power, your family's power… many monarchs in the past tried to get those."
Aion wondered if their numbers were small because of that… then again, he wasn't sure if they didn't have some secret land somewhere. Prying further on the topic would be a bother, so Aion decided to focus on something else.
"If people decided to obtain those powers in the past, why the relic still are scattered?" Aion asked. "You failed to obtain the cooperation of the family of my mother after a while?"
"That is half of the reason," Sauros replied. "It is true. We need your blood to open the barriers. However, even after this long, some families still want to obtain those powers. So, even though our ancestors choose those locations, over the years, people decided to bet everything they had to open the barriers. Most of them don't know the keys necessary for that, and since they don't want to risk losing the chance to obtain that power, they don't share information. The place we are going to now is a civilization that was built around the temple that guards one relic, and the sole wish for that family of rulers is to one day obtain the relic. They even challenge the whole system of how the rulers would be chosen to achieve that as soon as possible."
"Can that even be done?" Aion asked. "The guy who made the dragon show up only threw the statue on the ground to crack it a little."
"Everything can be learned in this world," Sauros said. "You saw the power of an ice dragon. Do you think the world would be able to endure the attack of a pack of those?" Sauros asked. "The people of the past managed to do that, they become strong enough to do so once they set their minds on that. Our ancestors were only human beings and now they are called gods. That is the potential that people here have once they have knowledge and power."
"And yet, the goddess decided to die as a human…" Aion said.
