The Supreme Level Up System -
Chapter 181 Warring Kingdom
"In Everia kingdom, military might is everything. Even a commoner can become a king if they show that and the capacity to build and lead an army," Seris said. "Thank to all that, they use all means possible to become famous. Capturing bandits, defeating enemy generals, and also killing spies… those are the main methods that they use to raise their fame. In the past, the generals also challenged each other to duels to death to obtain each other's armies, but that stopped when the instability of the kingdom reached critical levels."
To achieve as much as possible, the generals used spies to gather as much Intel as possible about everything while also preventing Intel from leaking. Thus, making it harder for everyone to know what is going on in that kingdom. Invading and not standing out will be harder, finishing their business without a fight will be even harder, and if they take their time, they might have to fight against several armies.
"To obtain might over other armies, the generals are always looking for ways to become stronger and accomplish more," Sauros said. "Poison, monsters, siege weapons, study battle tactics, most of the time, they focus on a single thing to reach the peak on that field. Just fighting won't be enough. We have to play it smart."
The first destination seemed to be quite a difficult place to go, but Aion was quite looking forward to it. The only downside of all that was the fact that he had to be wary of not revealing his identity.
After hearing that, Aion felt even more eager to improve the sniper class since he wasn't famous for using a bow and because it was a pretty efficient method of defeating enemies.
In any case, six days later, Sauros called everyone to the captain's cabin to talk about the next plans. He drew a rough map of the kingdom that they were heading to, and their destination was right in the middle of it.
"To reach our destination, we will have to cross two thousand kilometers. It will be quite the trip, but with Aion's power, we should be able to move faster," Sauros said. "However, we will have to take only a few with us to avoid looking suspicious while gathering intel."
"Can't we just head into a straight line to the temple?" Seris asked.
"We could, but the generals of that kingdom are always on the move, and where they go, their armies go," Sauros replied. "I think it would be better if we learn who are the closest generals to the temple to devise a feasible plan and avoid surprises."
That was more or less expected, but they had no idea for how long they would have to be in enemy territory. So, it would be a bit risky to let everyone to wait for them near the coast without knowing when they will return and if they will return. Aion wasn't even considering the possibility of failure. Still, Sauros was, for the sake of his allies, that would stay on the ship.
"The enemy coast is quite large, so the ones who will stay behind will have to follow a schedule to where you should be in the next few weeks," Sauros said. "We might have to deal with some blockades."
"Even in the air?" Aion asked.
"I told you, they use all kinds of methods to obtain the upper hand in wars, even monsters," Sauros said. "They have some dungeons here, and they let those break free so that they can tame the creatures. Flying monsters are no exceptions. While you might be able to fight in the air, we wouldn't be able to do it. Besides, it might be dangerous to force you to do two things at the same time."
Actually, that wasn't a problem. The real problem was to use Meditation when he wasn't with the mage class. With that class, he could alleviate the work on his mind while flying. However, his magic power would decrease by at least half.
"I really don't like the idea of walking around in enemy territory when they are like that," Aion said. "Are the generals really troublesome?"
"You might have defeated guys like Caelis and Horis, but they aren't at the top when it comes to martial strength and tactics," Sauros said. "You should have realized that they were quite dumb."
"It isn't like I am trying to make look my victories over them better, but while they put their pride on the line over anything else, they still used decent battle tactics," Aion said.
"That is the problem. The generals don't care about that. They care about results, so you won't be able to fool them," Sauros said. "They won't attack you directly until they know they can defeat you. They will keep sending their minions one after the other until you reveal all of your cards, and you can't surprise them anymore."
That seemed like a problem. Without the necromancer class, Aion's ability to face armies was severely lacking. His longbow will help, but even so, his options will be limited against the people that are still looking for ways to open the barrier around one of the temples. Their minions probably won't hesitate, and there is nothing more annoying than an enemy that has no qualms about sacrificing themselves to obtain victory…
"I devised the route for you all to follow for the next month, and it covers the entire coast of the Everia kingdom. If we take too long to return, you just have to repeat the pattern until you hear anything about us or something out of the norm," Sauros said. "If that were to happen, you have the orders to leave immediately."
Staying one month on enemy territory… Aion wanted to avoid such a scenario at all costs. That being said, Sauros was being cautious for a reason. The mission was dangerous and all kinds of things could happen there.
