Chapter 79 Somebody to Love Her
Josephine gripped her phone tighter.
Lewis didn’t return the night before, and she had already changed her phone. Why could he
still track her?
Josephine was comforting herself, thinking that perhaps it was all just a coincidence. She decided toignore the message and looked at Sam.
Sam was still talking to Mrs. Jinkins, asking her if she was willing to leave.
Mrs. Jinkins looked at Josephine with hesitation. She didn’t want to be a burden to Josephine.
Josephine signed, “Come with us. Don’t stay here.”
Mrs. Jinkins’ eyes glimmered, but she looked hesitant. She opened her mouth and said, voicetrembling, “Forget about it.”
Josephine shook her head. “We’re already here. Why do you not want to leave with us?”
At that point, if Mrs. Jinkins didn’t leave, the days ahead for her would be even more tragic. That wasnot something Josephine wanted to see.
Mrs. Jinkins patted Josephine’s hand with a benevolent gaze, tears welling up in her eyes. already soold. I don’t want to be on the run. Josie, thank you so much. Don’t you have the evidence on Patrick? Ifhe mistreats me, please help me take him to court?”
“I’m
Tears welled up in Josephine’s eyes. She shook her head stubbornly. She wanted to take Mrs. Jinkinsaway, not only because she wanted to give her a better life but also because of her selfishness. Shewanted somebody to love her.
Mrs. Jinkins pulled Josephine to the door and said softly, “Josie, I’m really happy you did this for me.I’ve lived a long time and suffered a lot, but nothing makes me happier than meeting you. You’re a goodperson. You must take care of yourself, you hear me?”
Hearing what sounded like a farewell note, Josephine could no longer hold back her tears. She criedand shook her head fervently.
Mrs. Jinkins continued, “The other day, I heard Patrick talking to someone on the phone, calling him Mr.Alvarez. Josie, I might be old, but I’m not a fool…” Mrs. Jinkins trailed off, but they both understoodwhat she meant.
Lewis was the one who ordered Mrs. Jinkins to be taken away. That was why if Mrs. Jinkins were tofollow Josephine back, she might suffer even worse consequences. Not only that, but Josephine mightbe implicated in it as well..
Thus, Mrs. Jinkins would rather suffer than go along with Josephine. They were both looking out forone another as they cherished the care they had for each other, yet someone had to
compromise.
Josephine held Mrs. Jinkins’ hand. She understood what Mrs. Jinkins was trying to say but wasreluctant to let her go. She didn’t understand why Lewis had promised to let Mrs. Jinkins stay but stillgot Patrick to take her away.
She had already obeyed him and cut ties with Avery, yet he went back on his word.
Sam walked over to Josephine and convinced her, saying, “Since Mrs. Jinkins doesn’t want to go, lether stay here. I’ve already spoken to Patrick. He promised not to hurt her anymore.”
Josephine didn’t believe it. Once they left, Patrick would surely show his true colors or even be muchworse than before.
Mrs. Jinkins didn’t want to cause her trouble, so she wouldn’t tell her if she was suffering.
“Alright, Josie, go back,” Mrs. Jinkins persuaded her. “Don’t worry about me. You have the evidence. You don’t need to worry.”
Josephine was like a small child being coaxed, just like how the adults used to coax her to sleep whenshe was young, telling her not to be afraid. How could she not be afraid? She was all alone in such aheavy storm.
Josephine looked at Mrs. Jinkins; her tears kept falling. She hated the feeling of helplessness. It wasjust like how she was forced to have an abortion. No matter what she did, she failed in the end.
Sam said, “Miss Vance, if you’re worried, get Patrick to install a security camera in the hall.” Hesuggested that Josephine didn’t need to look at the security footage, but the footage had to beuploaded to cloud storage. In case anything was to happen in the future, they could check the footageat any time.
Patrick was furious. He already could not get the money, yet he had to install a security camera athome. Of course, he wouldn’t agree to it.
Sam said, “Sure, if you don’t want to install one. Let’s go to court, then. No matter what, this has to beresolved today.”
“You” Patrick was so furious he was at a loss for words. He glared at Sam. “What fraud of a lawyer areyou? Installing a security camera to spy on us? Don’t you know that it’s illegal?”
“I’ve already said it,” Sam explained. “We won’t have the right to look at it. You’re only forced to uploadit to the cloud to prevent you from deleting the footage. Only the police can access the footage if thisgoes to court. Do you understand?”
Patrick choked on his words. He could not replace any other reason to retort. After all, Sam’s stance wasclear. He either installed a security camera or he would be taken to court, only two options.
“Alright! You win! Do what you want!” Patrick slumped on the sofa angrily. He could no
longer be bothered to argue with them. How could he win an argument against a lawyer?
“Then it’s settled. If you don’t want to pay, we’ll pay for the installation of the security camera.
“Whatever. Just do it quickly and leave!” Patrick said furiously.
Sam nodded. After discussing it with Josephine, she said she could come up with the money.Josephine would feel a little more relieved with the installation of the securi
camera. She bid farewell to Mrs. Jinkins reluctantly before leaving the neighborhood with Sam.
Next was to buy a security camera.
Josephine looked at Sam gratefully and typed on her phone. “Thank you.”
Sam said with a smile, “You’re welcome. I’m glad I can help you with your problem, but you do knowthat I charge by the hour, right?”
Josephine was a little stunned as she had not asked him about his price previously.
She typed anxiously. “How much does it cost?”
Sam replied with a smile, “20 thousand per hour.”
Josephine’s eyes widened. How were his services so expensive?
Sam looked at his watch and said, “Hmm, a total of five hours. Although I charge differently accordingto the different phases, since your case took only a short while, I’ll charge you at the
same rate.”
Josephine clutched her phone tightly. She had the money to spare, but she had borrowed it from Avery. She still had to return it to her.
However, if she didn’t pay Sam, he might possibly sue her.
She gritted her teeth and typed. “Send me your bank account.”
Sam took his phone out and sent her his bank details. “We’ll have to add on a contract later, but we cansign after this has been settled.”
Josephine sighed and transferred 100 thousand dollars to Sam. Although it hurt her to spend that muchmoney, at least she had solved Mrs. Jinkins’ problem. She didn’t spend the money
in vain.
“Do you need me to accompany you to get the security camera?” Sam asked with a friendly smile, butJosephine sensed a little slyness in his smile. She previously thought he was just and righteous, buther impression of him changed.
Josephine asked. “Will you charge me?”
Sam was amused by her question. “Haha! No, it’s free. Consider it a favor to you.”
Love Her
Josephine let out a sigh of relief and nodded. She was afraid Patrick would go back on his word if Samwas not there during the security camera installation..
Sam opened the car door. “Get in.”
After Josephine got in, they drove away from the neighborhood to an electronic store. They didn’trealize a car stopped by the side of the road behind them. A cold gaze was looking at them.
“Follow them.
