Born Mine -
Chapter 28
Evening came around so fast and I still had not found an outfit. I had practically pulled apart my entire closet but I was unable to piece together a perfect outfit. Serena had already texted me saying she was leaving her house soon but I was still seated in my robe with my makeup done and my hair styled but with no outfit in sight. Everything I picked just seemed wrong and it was getting frustrating the longer I sat there with the clock ticking behind me.
Just as I was about to give up, I saw a bralette at the bottom of my closet. It was black and left little to the imagination but it was cute. I quickly put it on and paired it with shorts, thigh-high boots and a jacket just in case it got cold. As if on cue, I got a text from Serena saying she was leaving. I left my room and met Grandma in the living room. She ran her eyes over my outfit and shook her head with a small smile on her lips.
"Do you like?" I asked as I did a small twirl for her.
"Just be home early" was her response and I blew her a kiss before rushing into my car.
The drive did not take long and I had to park a bit of a distance away because the entire place was swarmed with people. Serena and I had agreed to meet by the town fountain and it took a lot of pushing through people before I was able to get there. She was already there when I got there and she looked gorgeous in her ripped jeans and long-sleeved crop top.
"You look amazing," we said at the same time and burst out laughing.
"The main event and speech does not start for the next two hours so we have the entire town to ourselves," Serena explained. "You need to try the hot dogs, I hear they are amazing and there are some games on the other side if you're interested."
"Let's go."
As we walked towards the hot dog stand, Serena stopped to greet everyone. I had forgotten how small of a town Lunarius was but I was quickly reminded because everyone knew everyone. The hot dogs were as good as she said they were and the man behind the stand gave us an extra one because he liked Serena. She flirted with him but I knew she was not interested in him at all.
We made our way over to the games and we played a few. I lost woefully but Serena won us both cute pandas which we carried everywhere. We decided to stop for some ice cream and she looked excited. I realized we were alone and I knew that it was my onJv_chance to get answers from her
"I have a question but you have to promise that you will not freak out," I began and she looked up from her ice cream cone. Her expression was blank but she nodded. "Are there werewolves in Lunarius?"
There was a flash of emotion across her face but she quickly hid it and did not betray any other emotion. "What are you talking about?"
"I know they exist so you don't have to worry about that. They're supposed to be myths but there is always truth to myths and some of them are not hidden very well. I just didn't know there were any in Lunarius. As far as I knew it was a human town."
"It is a human town."
I crossed my arms over my chest. "Don't lie to me, Serena."
"There are werewolves everywhere Leindra. I don't know if there are wolves in Lunarius
and I couldn't tell you if I did. Why are you asking me this?"
"I met one," I said slowly and her eyes widened. "Technically I met two of them, but I know the identity of one."
"You cannot say a word about this to anyone," she warned and I nodded. She leaned forward and grabbed my shoulders with both hands. "You don't understand. There are humans in this town who don't know a thing about wolves and the last thing we need is to incite panic."
Awareness settled over my features and I leaned back in my seat. "You're one of them, aren't you? If you were a human then you wouldn't have used the word humans, you would have said us."
She opened her mouth to speak but closed it quickly. "We can finish this conversation later."
Before I could ask what she meant by that, I felt a presence behind me and a pair of hands covered my eyes. I knew it wasn't Darius or Ian because they had distinct colognes. I quickly pulled the hand off and turned only to see Liam standing beneath me. He was in a plaid shirt and jeans with simple white sneakers.
"Hope I'm not interrupting," he said with a smile and I shook my head. He took the empty chair at our table. "I had no plans to come here tonight but seeing as you're here, I guess I made the right decision."
"It's nice to see you, Liam."
I turned to Serena and she was all but glaring at Liam. He hadn't noticed and I kicked her leg under the table so he wouldn't see her. She turned to me and glared at me as if
I was the one who did something wrong. I tried to tell her with my eyes that it was rude and in response, she scoffed and stood to her feet.
"Excuse us," I said to Liam and I rushed after her. I waited until we were a good distance away before I continued. "What is going on with you?"

"I don't like him," she crossed her arms over her chest. "There is something off about that guy and until we figure out what it is, I think we should stay away from him."
"He's human, Serena. He's just new in town and he is going to be gone by tonight or tomorrow. You're just acting like this because you don't know him."
"You don't know him either."
"I know that but he is a visiting stranger. Can't you be nice to him? He is just a lawyer." "There's more to him than that, I know it for a fact," she glared at him from our position. "Besides, you shouldn't even be near him at all. You know how Darius gets." "I don't give a shit about Darius."
"You should."
I didn't want to argue about Darius anymore so I gave her one last look and made my way back to the table. She muttered a few choice words under her breath and followed me. She sat down and although she still cast a dirty look at Liam every once in a while, she was a bit nicer to him and even answered when he asked some questions about the celebration.
"The speech is going to start soon. We should probably get back and listen then the night is ours," she said with a glance at her watch then she turned to Liam. "You don't have to attend the speech since you're not part of the town."
"I think I'll go for it."
I could see that she was hoping for a different response but she stood to her feet and I allowed Liam to help me up. Serena walked ahead of us because she knew the terrain better than us, I walked directly behind her and Liam was at the extreme. We had started walking a little when I felt him place his hand on the small of my back. I jumped and turned to him sharply. He gave me a small smile as if he had done nothing.
"Is everything okay?" Serena asked and I turned to see her raising a brow in my direction.

I nodded because I still hadn't figured out what had happened. She didn't believe me but she nodded and kept walking. This time, she made sure to walk directly in line with
me.
When we got to the town square, it was already filled with people. We were able to get a place to stand that was close enough to the makeshift stage that we could see it but far enough that whoever was standing on that stage may not have been able to see us. We didn't have to wait long before someone walked out onto the stage and I was shocked to see Darius there.
"He is making the speech?" I asked and she nodded as if it was obvious.
"He is the descendant of the founders, what did you expect?"
Darius looked very good. He was wearing black pants with a button-up black shirt and polished shoes. Although his outfit looked casual, it screamed wealth. His hair was slicked back in an elegant look and he looked around the crowd until his eyes settled on me. I doubted he could see me but with the way the corner of his lips curled up, I began to doubt myself.
The speech began but I could not concentrate on anything that was being said. He spoke with his eyes fixated on me and the intensity of his gaze had me squeezing my thighs together and avoiding his gaze, I took a subconscious step back and I bumped into Liam's body. His arms instantly wrapped around my waist to steady me but when I tried to step away, he didn't let me.
He leaned his head down until it was by my ear. "You look really good tonight, I never told you."
"Thank you," I smiled and tried to step out of his hold once again but he didn't release
me.
He opened his mouth to speak but the sound of clapping filled the air. I looked up to
see that Darius had finished with his speech. Liam let go of me to join the clapping and I quickly stepped out of his reach.
"That was the quickest speech that he has ever given," Serena mused more to herself than anyone else. "I wonder why he ended it so abruptly. He was talking about the town and all of a sudden, he started to wrap up."
"It means we have more time to have fun," I joked but her attention was still on Darius.
I risked a glance at him, still on the stage and there was a burning fire in his eyes. His gaze was fixated above me and I knew without a doubt that he was staring at Liam. Serena may not know why he ended the speech so quickly but I did and I swallowed down a knot in my throat as I thought about how he was going to react to it.
