Chapter 21:

“I heard your fiancée is coming back. My parents mentioned your mother was looking for you.”

Rhys frowned, about to speak, when Harlee gently pulled her hand away. The loss of her comforting warmth left him feeling strangely let down.

“Mr. Green, since you have things to take care of, you should go on. I’m leaving now.” With that, Harlee turned away, her demeanor frosty.

“Wait a second!” Rhys called after Harlee, handing her a check.

“I’m really sorry for the trouble I caused you before.”

Harlee nodded, accepted the check, and walked away without a moment’s pause.

Rhys’s lips pressed into a thin line. The next second, he received a call from his mother, Belinda Green.

“The Sanderson family has notified us that your fiancée is coming back. You need to get ready and go see them to propose. It’s time to move things along. You’re not getting any younger. Your father and I have been looking forward to this day for a long time.

Did you hear what I said?”

Rhys said nothing.

“Don’t play dead with me!” Belinda’s tone was sharp and forceful.

“Our families arranged this marriage long before you were even born.

Don’t screw this up now! The girl from the Morgan family mentioned you were with another girl today. I’m warning you. Stay away from those women and remember your place!”

As his mother’s voice grew louder, Rhys cut in coldly, “I have things to take care of.

Bye.”

Belinda tried to say more, but he had already ended the call.

Before going to the office, Rhys stopped by the hospital.

He shared the bungee jumping videos with Nathaniel.

Having learned about Rhys’ fiancée’s return, Nathaniel wasn’t surprised by Rhys’ displeasure.

“Rhys, I’ve learned something valuable in my years.

Always follow your heart.” Nathaniel chuckled and gave Rhys a pat on the shoulder.

“If you don’t, you’ll end up regretting it. No matter how great you look to others, you’ll realize it’s all meaningless.”

“Who is Nicola?” Rhys asked.

Nathaniel’s arm tensed, and he pulled his hand back with a snort.

“You little rascal, get out!” Rhys was promptly shown out of the room.

But he had already made a decision.

He needed to call off the engagement.

Meanwhile, Harlee went back to the Sanderson family.

After following the address Brice had provided, she reached the most upscale villa neighborhood in Baythorn, Lakeshore Villas. This villa district was nestled in Mount Cloudridge, the most developed and luxurious area in Baythorn. The villas were never sold to outsiders, and the owners were chosen by the real estate company.
