Chapter 22:

Only those wealthy or influential could live here, all elites at the top of Baythorn’s social ladder.

Harlee questioned whether Brice had given her the correct address. Wasn’t her family supposed to be so poor that they struggled to get enough to eat? How could they afford to live here?

Yet, trusting Brice’s meticulous nature, Harlee entered the villa district. There was a security gate, and Harlee intended to call someone to let her through. To her surprise, a man in a suit and white gloves walked up to her at the entrance.

“Miss Sanderson!” He greeted her with great respect, bowing deeply at a ninety-degree angle.

Harlee tilted her head, puzzled.

“And you are?”

“I’m Frey Young, your family’s driver. Mr. and Mrs. Sanderson sent me to pick you up.

But when I got to the Gill residence, you weren’t there, and I was informed you had already left, so I waited here.”

Harlee raised an eyebrow.

“They saw you?”

“Yes, they did.” Frey nodded, looking confused.

“For unknown reasons, they claimed I was a fraud, hired to put on a show, and questioned how much money I had taken from you…” Frey didn’t really get it. Scratching his head, he seemed troubled.

“And they turned down the gifts from Mr. and Mrs. Sanderson.”

Frey had wanted to convince them, but the Gill family had slammed the door in his face. The Gill family’s response was nothing like he had anticipated, leaving him bewildered.

Harlee was not surprised by the Gill family’s reaction, knowing their doubts about her real family’s ability to send a driver to fetch her. It was just that it seemed her real family was a far cry from what she had heard.

“Let’s go.” Despite the surprising turn of events, Harlee’s face remained neutral.

Frey pulled up in a limited edition Rolls-Royce, its dark exterior shining in the sunlight and radiating luxury.

“Miss Sanderson, the gifts are still in the back. Should I arrange to deliver them another time?” he asked as he drove.

“No need,” Harlee replied coolly.

After glancing at the gift boxes, Harlee nonchalantly opened one and found several bright red property deeds. They were all for upscale villas.

Besides, there were also keys to luxury cars, agreements for transferring shops, and stock transfer documents. In comparison, the other boxes filled with jewelry and luxury goods seemed quite ordinary. She bet the Gill family must not have realized what was in the boxes when they turned down the gifts.

Harlee put everything back and yawned. Then, she closed her eyes to take a rest.

Frey stole a look at Harlee through the rearview mirror, noting Harlee’s resemblance to her mother.

Harlee’s mother had been the belle of the capital in her younger days, known for her gentleness, but Harlee had a different vibe, exuding coldness that caught people’s attention but kept them at arm’s length. Reflecting on how Harlee had been away from the Sanderson family for so long, Frey felt a twinge of sympathy.
