How the Ice King Became my Doting Billionaire Husband -
Chapter 463
Phineas maintained his smile as he spoke, "Morwenna has already left. I'm not sure where she went, but if Ms. Lamont happens to replace her, please tell her to hurry back. Norbert is fading fast, and she needs to see him one last time."
Lorna's eyes widened with surprise. She had only been away for a few days, but it seemed like everything in the outside world had changed.
Why couldn't she trust Phineas?
Could it be that Phineas had hidden Morwenna somewhere, claiming she was gone?
Seeing the doubt in Lorna's eyes, Phineas felt exasperated.
Matthew, standing by, quickly interjected, "Morwenna really has left, Lorna. Come on, there's no reason for you to stay here now that she's not with the Hetfield family."
"Matthew? What are you doing here?" Lorna asked, confused.
"I'm here to get you out," he replied.
Lorna considered questioning why Matthew was the one picking her up, but she was more of a doer than a thinker. Deciding it was best to leave first and think later, she said, "Alright, give me a moment."
She quickly dashed to the game room, smashed the computers, and stomped on a few game discs before emerging satisfied.
Catching Phineas's gaze, she raised an eyebrow, "I played too many games these past few days. Just the sight of them makes me nauseous. I hope Mr. Hetfield doesn't mind me breaking a few."
Phineas gave a tight-lipped smile, "Not at all. If Ms. Lamont enjoys smashing things, I can have a few more sent over to the Lamont residence."
"No need for that. Let's go," Lorna said and left with Matthew.
As soon as they got in the car, Lorna turned to Matthew, "Where's Morwenna? How is she? Take me to see her."
Matthew shook his head, "Morwenna is in a safe place. It's not a good idea for us to visit her now. I'm sure Phineas has people tailing us."
Lorna glanced nervously at the rearview mirror but saw nothing unusual. She had no idea what was going on.
Matthew quickly filled her in, "Norbert left all his shares to Morwenna in his will. With Stuart out of Rosefrost Hollow, Morwenna's become the target of many. Phineas is searching everywhere for her, so our people have helped her hide for now."
Lorna's jaw dropped in disbelief.
This was like something out of a video game-one she'd played too long and hard, perhaps.
Matthew didn't wait to see if Lorna could process it all. "I'll take you straight back to school. Don't try to replace Morwenna. Phineas is watching everyone close to her, so don't make things harder for us. Understand?"
"Got it, got it," Lorna replied, still dazed as she was dropped off at school.
She might not have understood everything, but she knew well enough not to cause trouble.
Keira, spotting Lorna's return, abandoned her usual timidness and grabbed her friend, "Why are you back alone? Where's Wenna? You two left together. Is she okay?"
"Hey, hey, don't pull me like that! She's fine," Lorna assured her.
"That's a relief. But why isn't she back at school? Is there anything I can do to help?"
Lorna, unsure how to explain, blurted out, "Why all the questions? Once things settle, she'll come back. For now, you can help by keeping an eye on her parcel pick-up spot. She's pretty particular about it."
"Of course, I'll do that," Keira nodded eagerly.
Outside the school, two bodyguards stood watching the direction Lorna had walked in. Only when they noticed the security guard's suspicion did they finally leave.
Meanwhile, Matthew realized they were being followed. The tailing was amateurish at best-the glaring headlights made it impossible not to notice.
As expected, Phineas had indeed sent people to monitor them.
Undeterred, Matthew drove home with confidence, making no effort to shake the pursuit.
