How the Ice King Became my Doting Billionaire Husband -
Chapter 488
She was caught between confusion and joy.
Unsure of what to do, she desperately didn't want Norbert Hetfield to die, yet she was powerless to save him.
At that moment, Edmund, standing by Greta's side, stepped forward and brusquely pushed aside the busy doctors, exclaiming, "What are you all fussing about? You're just wasting time. All you're doing is keeping him on his last breath, but he won't wake up this way."
Before the doctors could frown and question who this intruder was, Keegan quickly intervened, saying, "Step aside, let Dr. Thompson take over."
Morwenna looked up at Edmund in bewilderment. Could this doctor really save Norbert?
Edmund sat down and began his work. After a thorough examination, he took out a set of silver needles he carried and swiftly began acupuncture.
Half an hour later, Norbert lay still, unmoving.
Wiping the sweat off his forehead, Edmund remarked, "The patient is quite advanced in age, and his body's functions have significantly declined. It's impossible for him to recover fully."
Hearing this, Morwenna looked at Edmund, her voice trembling, "Are you... are you saying there's still hope for Norbert Hetfield?"
Edmund nodded matter-of-factly, "Of course. Even if Death himself wants to take someone, he has to check with me first."
Morwenna nearly threw herself in front of Edmund, asking loudly, "Is Norbert Hetfield really going to be okay?"
With a huff, Edmund replied, "Is there anyone here doubting what I say? That young lad, Stuart, risked his life to replace me in the middle of nowhere, just to save this man, didn't he?"
Morwenna was stunned. Only now did she realize that during Stuart's recent disappearance, he had ventured into dangerous territories to replace a doctor for Norbert Hetfield.
And Stuart had indeed brought back someone capable of saving him.
Right now, Morwenna couldn't dwell on what Stuart had sacrificed. She urgently asked, "When will Norbert Hetfield wake up?"
Edmund thought
for a moment and
said, "By maintaining his bodily functions and stimulating key points with acupuncture, he should wake up in three to five months, or a most, a year or two. Given his age, it might take a bit longer."
Upon hearing this, Morwenna suddenly fell to her knees before Edmund.
"Thank you, thank you for saving Norbert Hetfield! I... I will repay you."
Morwenna's gratitude was overwhelming. No matter what Edmund asked for, as long as she had it, she would give it.
Someone had pulled back her crumbling world, and how could she not be grateful?
Edmund, impatient, said, "Get up. Did I ask you to kneel? And as for repayment, it's unnecessary."
Morwenna didn't dare argue and quickly stood up.
Watching Norbert lying in bed, Bright remarked enviously, "You're a lucky old man
to have such devoted family."
The others in the room exchanged looks at this comment.
Fortunately, Orson wasn't there. If he had been, he might have bluntly stated that the Hetfield family were a bunch of ungrateful descendants, except for their Mrs. Hetfield, who was truly devoted.
Morwenna, eager to stay by Norbert Hetfield's side, was shooed away by the grumpy old Edmund.
"Everyone, out, out! What are you
doing hanging around here? I said I'd
save him, and I will. Whatever you
have to say, save it for when the old
man wakes up. Stop bothering me."
Despite Edmund's gruff demeanor, Morwenna wasn't the least bit upset. She obediently stood up and said, "Alright, I'm leaving, I'm leaving now."
She left the room, looking back every few steps.
Knowing Norbert had a chance to live brought a spark back to Morwenna's previously lifeless eyes.
Yet, after everything that had happened, Morwenna transformed from her once lively and cheerful self to someone more reserved and silent.
