"Bribery? So you bought them off? I don't think that would work. They'll probably just mock you behind your back." Dexter sounded a bit concerned.
"No, no." Angela continued, "Each of them was given a different gift."
Dexter looked a little shocked for a moment, then a glimmer of admiration showed in his eyes-though he quickly masked it. "Explain."
Angela crossed her arms, looking triumphant as if she had the whole world in her grasp.
"Francis is obsessed with collecting antique artwork, so I sent him an antique painting that Bill had bought at an overseas auction years ago.
"He was suspicious of my intentions, but he couldn't resist the allure of the artwork and ended up accepting it, albeit hesitantly.
"As for Dale, he's a simple brute. He's not particularly capable but is obsessed with money. He's also as stingy as they come. So, I gifted him a black card that had a million dollars on it. The one Grandma gave me back then was—"
"What?" Dexter was stunned. "That card is one of only 30 in the world, and you just handed it over? What were you thinking?"
"That one is a fake." Angela smirked cunningly. "The card is a replica. He'll probably realize something's off in a few months and fly into a rage. But it'll already be too late by then. Their alliance will already be crumbling.
"Even if it isn't completely broken by then, that hothead will definitely be furious when he realizes I treated them differently and will have a hard time accepting it.
"He won't just resent me he'll also start resenting the other two who got real benefits. And when that happens..."
At that moment, Angela seemed like a cunning fox.
Dexter let out an amused huff. "And what about the last one?"
"Pete is Andrew's nephew. He's young and possesses strong leadership and management skills. However, he's been held back by his mother for years and forced to work under Andrew. I didn't want to make an enemy of him, so after much deliberation, I gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.
"I sent him an appointment letter for a general manager's position at one of our subsidiaries. On paper, it looks like a demotion, but in reality, it's a promotion.
"I raised his annual salary to three million and gave him an additional 2% in shares. How could he not be tempted?"
Angela stared into the distance, her mind conjuring up Pete's usually stoic expression.
He was always trailing behind Andrew. He rarely spoke but was ruthlessly efficient. Over the years, he had done a lot for Andrew yet received little in return.
"Not bad." Dexter gave her an amused look. "I never knew you were this skilled at reading and controlling people."
Angela waved her hand dismissively.
"it all from you. After being
by your side for so many years would be a real failure if I didn't pick upà thing or two."
Dexter was momentarily taken aback, as he hadn't expected her to say that. "Am I
really that bad of an influence? Also, I never noticed you learning from me."
Getting up Angela stretched lazily, "This is what they call the student surpassing the teacher. Besides, would you ever admit to being a bad influence? Obviously not."
On the other side, Andrew was talking to someone in his house.
"Pete, what's the meaning of this?" Andrew was half-reclined on the couch, his face dark with rage.
"You've been by my side for a long time. Even if I haven't personally mentored you, I've at least watched over you over the years.
"And now, just because that woman offered you a measly general manager's position with no real future, you're going to betray me?"
Andrew was trembling with anger.
He could hardly believe it-one of his three most trusted subordinates, whom he had painstakingly trained, was about to be taken away.
