Just then, Angela's phone rang unexpectedly. It kept ringing repeatedly.
Zack was calling her. He would never come to her without a reason. If he was this anxious, something serious must have happened.
"Angie, come out now. I'm in your office."
Angela rushed to her office, where Zack was already on his feet to greet her. "Angie, Dad suddenly vomited blood. I got someone to take him to emergency care. You need to come with me. I think it's really bad this time."
Angela put down her bag and asked as she hurriedly followed Zack outside, "What happened?"
His brows were furrowed tightly. "I don't know either. Oh, right-earlier today, I went to visit him. He asked how things were going, and I told him you were doing great. I even praised you like crazy, telling him how you've turned the company around with your leadership skills and landed a huge deal-"
"Stop right there." Angela was at a loss. "Are you really not aware that he has a problem with me? What is wrong with your brain? Did a zombie eat it?" She glared at Zack, exasperated.
Only then did Zack realize his mistake. "Oh... Oops. Then, should I tell him next time that you're running the company into the ground instead?"
Looking at the naive and goofy young man in front of her, Angela started to doubt if Zack was really Bill and Judy's biological son.
If the apple didn't fall far from the tree, how did such cunning old foxes end up with such a blockhead of a son?
As they reached the parking lot, Angela got into the car quickly. While fastening her seatbelt, she casually asked, "What have you been up to lately?"
Zack adjusted the passenger seat before sprawling out comfortably. Without thinking, he blurted out, "I've been trying to replace a girlfriend with my friends. Let me tell you, I recently met this super pretty and innocent woman, but she's still in college..."
"What?" Angela instantly scowled. "Have you looked at yourself in the mirror? You, messing with a promising young college woman-do you not have a conscience?"
Her face was
as fivid with anger. She had long known that Zack's circle was full of troublemakers-leeches who freeloaded off him but never did anything meaningful. If this
ef
continued, they would erdid
him
sooner or later.
Taking a deep breath, she said coldly, "How about this? Start working at our company tomorrow. Joanne will arrange a job for you, and you'll be paid 8,000 dollars a month."
"I'm not going." Zack pouted. The wind ruffled his blond hair, making him look even more carefree and roguish.
If not for the trace of innocent mischief still lingering on his face, he would've already been kicked into a ditch by some righteous man on the street.
"You're not going? Fine. I'll ask Joanne to freeze all your bank cards. Let's see how long your reckless lifestyle lasts." Angela didn't even bat an eye as she scoffed.
The rebellious troublemaker instantly froze, his eyes widening. "Angie, do you have to be this heartless? I'm your biggest fan!"
"If not for the fact that you still have a bit of conscience left, you would've ended up just like Bill." Angela gave him a cold glance, her eyes chillingly sharp.
Zack didn't dare to argue anymore.
However, he suddenly became interested in the newcomer by Angela's side- Joanne. The whole ride, he kept chattering non-stop, asking about this and that.
When Angela told Zack that Joanne was a former state champion in kickboxing, he instantly turned pale.
