Chapter 5:.

Hugo’s phone rang on top of the huge wooden desk full of papers, he looked at the screen and saw that contact was his grandfather’s number. He took a deep breath, ran his hand over face and answered the call.

“Hello grandfather how are you” he greeted preparing himself for the sermon he was about to receive, he was already used to it, every conversation with his grandfather would end with reproaches and scoldings.

“You have the nerve to call me grandfather, do you even remember that I am your grandfather, since when don’t you come to visit me, you only think about work and those women of the happy life. When are you going to grow up, Hugo? You have a woman waiting for you at home.

How long do you plan to go on like this?”

Hugo didn’t answer, he just kept silent, he had learned over the years that, in situations like these, the best thing to do was, to keep silent and give the old man the reason and when he would get tired of fighting the storm would end.

“All right grandfather, I promise to be more obedient, now calm down, your blood pressure may rise”.

Hugo tried to calm him down, a few years ago Rafael had suffered a pre-infarct and since then he suffered from a heart condition and it was not healthy for him to stress, for this reason Hugo always tried to please him and did not give him reasons to worry, or at least he tried to, but Old Rafael took advantage of his illness and always tried to blackmail Hugo.

“I hear you’re in town, when do you plan to come visit this dying old man?”

“I promise you that in these days I will come to see you, I have just returned and I have a lot of work in the company, as soon as I get a little free I will come to see you.”

“And your wife, how much do you plan to visit your wife?”

Hugo did not answer and remained silent, his grandfather knew perfectly well that he had never agreed with that marriage, he only accepted it because he forced him, but it was one thing to accept to get married and another to dedicate time to that woman.

“I know what you think about your marriage ” Rafael spoke in a calmer voice “but she is a good girl, you should meet her, I’m sure you like her”.

“Grandpa, I have to get back to work, I’ll talk to you later.”

I try to dodge the subject and finish the monotonous talk.

“That’s it, take refuge in work and run away from reality” Rafael shouted at him and then hung up the call.

“Drink some water sir” Ernesto the butler approached “You shouldn’t bother like that”.

“This boy is going to kill me one of these days”. he drank some water and then added “did you replace out what happened with Sara”.

“Yes sir, apparently yesterday the classmates went out to celebrate and Miss Sara got drunk and ended up spending the night with a man.”

Rafael choked on the water and was choking, Ernesto immediately gave him a few small blows on his back and waited until he could breathe well.

“Calm down sir, investigate the man and he happens to be your grandson.”

Rafael choked again on the water and Ernesto helped him again.

“You are telling me that Sara had an affair with her husband.”

“Yes sir, but apparently neither of them know the true identity of the other.”

“I was planning to move some chips so I could get them together, but apparently they don’t need it.”

Pleased he continued to sip his glass of water and began looking for names for the great-grandchildren that would soon be on their way.
