Chapter 6:

Sara arrived at the University and felt the gaze of all her classmates on her, they whispered as she passed by and criticized her for always giving an image of a good, studious and decent girl and it turned out that she was nothing more than a dead fly.

She ignored all the hurtful comments and stares all day long until she could leave. When she got to her room her phone rang notifying her of a message, it was from Tobias, he had heard about what happened and was inviting her out tonight. The last thing Sara wanted to do was to drink or leave the protection of her bed, so she declined the invitation.

She took a cold shower, because she waited until there was no one left in the bathroom to avoid being criticized, and when she was finally alone, there was no hot water left. It was barely 6 o’clock in the evening, but the temperature had already dropped to -5° and it was still snowing outside. She came out of the bathroom and ran to shelter under the food in her quilt for fear of catching a cold, she thought about ordering something to eat at home so she wouldn’t have to go out, but before she could do that Emily came in in floods of tears. For the next 15 minutes Sara tried to figure out what had happened to her, but her friend was unable to say a complete sentence and could only cry. When she finally calmed down she explained.

“Oscar is cheating on me” she blew her nose , dried some tears and continued “today we were going to spend the night together, watch a movie, have dinner together and stay over, the usual, but when I arrived he told me he couldn’t today because he had to do some work with some colleagues, He took a deep breath so he wouldn’t cry again.

“When he went into the bathroom he left his cell phone on the table and some messages started to come in, I didn’t want to see it, but it kept ringing and curiosity got the better of me. It was a girl, they had met today to go out for drinks and she was calling him honey, I didn’t have the courage to read the previous messages, when he came out of the bathroom I pretended I didn’t know anything and he brought me in”. She couldn’t take it anymore and burst into tears again “Now he must be with her, doing duets you know what, while I’m here like a fool crying”.

Sara didn’t know how to comfort her, she wasn’t good at comforting people, she always knew Oscar was no good, she tried to make her friend see it, but she was so in love that she didn’t pay attention. After thinking about it for a while, she took out her cell phone and sent a message to Tobias telling him that she did feel like going out drinking. And then she looked at her friend.

“If he’s with someone else, and he doesn’t appreciate the amazing woman he’s missing out on, that’s his problem. You’re going to stop crying right now, you’re going to fix yourself up, we’re going to go out too, we’re going to drink and dance and forget the sorrows of the world. So cheer up, we have a wonderful night ahead of us and that fool doesn’t deserve your tears”.

Sara and her friend changed and put on some make up, when they were ready they called a cab and went out to the Bar where Tobias was waiting for them. The place was packed with people and the line wrapped around the building. Emily groaned at the sight.

“I don’t think we’re going to get in today.”

Sara said nothing, pulled her phone out of her pocket and called Tobias.

“We’re outside, but there’s a long line.”

“I’m coming” he answered and then hung up.

Two minutes later he walked out the door and looked for them in the crowd, when he saw them he waved and they came closer. Seeing who was with them, the security man at the door let them in. Tobias escorted them to their private table where two identical blonde girls were waiting.

“Emily, Sara this is Diana and Diane” Tobias introduced them.

“I thought it was going to be just the three of us” complained one of the girls pouting.

“It’s not what you think” justified Emili turning red.

“They’re just friends” Tobias finished saying” they were bored and came to have fun.

The girls relaxed and stopped seeing them as a threat. Sara didn’t feel like drinking or going out at first, she did it to cheer up her friend, but when she had the first few drinks her body, which was used to drinking for the last few years with Tobias, immediately felt like drinking and dancing.

Sara never dressed sexy, she never wore short clothes or dresses, she always wore baggy jeans and a sweater, Emily and Tobias were already used to her attire, but for the rest it was always strange for a young girl to dress that way on any occasion. The same was true for Tobias’ companions, who spent their evening criticizing her whenever they could.

At the Moretti Group headquarters, Hugo was sitting quietly working, when the door was abruptly opened, a man in his early thirties with a jovial, youthful face entered smiling.

“Hugo, Hugo, Hugo, Hugo, I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you were back in the country” spoke the newcomer as he hurriedly walked almost running and dramatically threw himself on Hugo to hug him and fill his face with slobbery kisses.

Hugo disgustedly pushed him away and let him fall to the ground.

“Maybe I didn’t do it because I wasn’t pleased to see you” he replied indifferently.

“On occasions like this I wonder where your dignity goes” spoke another man standing in the office doorway wore a military uniform and his face was very manly with a small scar on his forehead and slight beard.

“If I want to remain Hugo’s friend I must put aside my dignity. He is so cold he could freeze the Caribbean Sea” joked the first one “How did you know I was here?” questioned Hugo.

“Matías” said by way of explanation the uniformed man.

“You know I am always able to locate you” smiled Matias “Eduardo did me the favor of accompanying me so you wouldn’t kick me. What do you say we go out to celebrate your return and have a few drinks.”

“I’m not interested I have a lot of work.” replied Hugo turning his attention back to the papers.

“Come on, I encourage it Eduardo, you just got back, but I’m leaving tomorrow for a mission and I don’t know when I’ll be back.”

“Okay” agreed Hugo and closed the folder in front of him.

“Why do you always say yes to him and no to me?” asked Matias pouting.

“Because he doesn’t bother as much as you do” replied Hugo simply.
