Chapter 30

After the late breakfast I retired back to my room and locked the door, I didn't want to be disturbed, not by anyone, and that includes my delusional mates.

But in my solitude, I replace myself longing for company, for someone I could share my thoughts with, and for someone who will share their own thoughts with me.

I miss Miya.

Could I visit wherever she is being kept? Is that even allowed?

Well, I guess I was going to replace out. Ryker ordered that she be taken down to the dungeons, so I just had to replace out where that was. I wasn't going to break her out, I wasn't ready for that just yet, but I would see that she is healthy, or as healthy as a human prisoner surrounded by bloodthirsty immortals can be..

Yeah, I definitely needed to replace her, and quickly. She might need my help, although I am not entirely sure what help I can give her as mate of Ryker and Maddox. I would more than likely get her into even more trouble, and I didn't want to do that.

Should I ask for Ryker's permission first? It might be something to try before I attempt to sneak my way there. Besides, he might even surprise me and say yes.

I take a deep breath, deciding on my plan before I walk towards the door, quickly unlocking it.

What I don't expect however is Ryker to be stood on the other side of the door, his hand raised in an almost effortless knock.

"Ah, there you are." He says with a smirk, "I was beginning to think I would have to threaten you before you left our bedroom."

"I have a question, actually." I blurt out, not letting my fear get the better of me. Ryker lifts an eyebrow, watching me closely. "And what might that be, my little fae?"

I take another deep breath, begging my heart rate to slow down. "I want to see Miya." I raise my hand to silence him when he begins to speak. "Before you say no, I just want to speak to her and make sure that she is okay. I am not going to do anything stupid."

"Of all the things you could of ask for, I didn't expect that." He admits. "But I should have. You are attached to that human, aren't you?"

I nod once, emotion thickening my voice. "I owe her my life; she gave me something to live for when I had lost all hope."

It was true. I was ready to give up and die in the snow until I met her, living had become hard for me alone. I just didn't realise how much I was broken until she began to fix me.

"I see. Well then, I guess that I can allow you this one thing." He takes my hand, dragging me towards him and his voice drops dangerously low. "But do not make me regret giving you this opportunity Elora, I do NOT give second chances."

My eyes are wide with fear as I nod, his threat is thick in his voice, and I know his words are true. If I make one move to get her out of wherever she is. If I run. She will die, and I will be locked away forever.

I could risk either of those things, not when I had nothing to defend myself with. Not when my friend's life was depending solely on my obedience.

I had to prove I was docile, that I wasn't going to be a threat, and neither was she.

I would die for Miya, but I would not let her die for me.

"I won't do anything to warrant retaliation." I tell him, my eyes on the floor. "I just want to make sure she is ok."

Ryker nods, turning to the guard I had met the day before. "Suer, take my wife to the dungeons to see her friend."

The friendly guard nods, gently taking my arm and leading me away from the dragon king as he watches me, suspicion in his eyes. He doesn't trust me, but that's ok, I don't trust him either.

I don't think that I will ever trust the monster who was responsible for the world's destruction, I just needed to keep reminding myself of that before my heart and body get too close. I may be mated to him, but that didn't mean that I was going to stay with him.

I would take my freedom back when he least expects it, and I will do it with Miya by my side.
