Suer is alert to every single being we pass, growling viciously whenever someone takes a single step towards me that he deems too close. Though I do suppose that it is his job. He was hired to protect me, and he was doing just that.

I was shocked by the amount of hatred I saw in the eyes of others when they noticed me walking around freely, and whilst the feeling was entirely mutual, I didn't exactly choose to be here. I was forced.

I would gladly leave in a heartbeat, if that was possible. But Ryker and Maddox had made it painfully clear that I had nowhere else to go, and the pain they would inflict on me when they found me would be worse than anything i had ever experienced. And I had experienced a lot of pain in my life.

Besides, I could never leave Miya behind. They would kill her the second that they realise that I had gone, and I would never be able to live with the regret I would feel over being her murderer.

"Where are the dungeons?" I ask, wondering why we were headed to the back door, I had thought they would be somewhere under the mansion. Not outside it.

"We keep prisoners in a soundproof bunker, it has been recently changed to house more than a dozen creatures at a time." He glances down at me, his brow furrowed. "But I am sure your human friend is just fine. They do heat the place."

Well, that does not fill me with confidence, not at all.

But it did make me wonder why they would choose a bunker over a basement, perhaps it was so no one close to the mansion would hear the prisoners' screaming for help.

I wonder if Miya has screamed for help.

I follow Suer across a lawn, different creatures under Ryker's command battling each other on the fields behind the house. They were training, but I didn't understand why. They were already faster and stronger than humans, it was easy for them to take a mortal out in seconds. Humanity never stood a chance.

So, why train to fight? Was there another enemy out there that I didn't know about?

I didn't dare hope that anyone was fighting back, hope was dangerous, and it made people do stupid things. Hope was worse than fear.

I turned to Suer, opening my mouth to ask a question, but before I could he points to the nearby treeline, a oddly shaped door poking out of the grass.

"Is that it?" I ask, noticing right away that the door was guarded by hellhounds, they weren't outside of the door, but they were close by.

Close enough to stop anyone entering or leaving that didn't have permission to be there. Close enough to kill.

Suer nods, "Ryker has sent word that we were coming, the guards have retreated to give us privacy."

I guess that's something. At least I didn't have to worry about getting my head bitten off for trespassing.

"Let's get this over with then." I murmur, indicating to Suer that he should go first.

"I thought you would be more excited to see your friend." He says with a scoff, raising an eyebrow as he opens the heavy metal door.

I would never be able to break Miya out of this place, I wouldn't even be able to lift the door. Not without my powers anyway.

"Actually, I'm not excited at all, I am terrified." I admit, looking down into the darkness for several seconds before I can convince myself to go inside. "I don't know how she is going to react. I don't even know if she has been hurt."

"Well, you are about to replace out." Suer chuckles, giving me a gentle shove. "I will wait here, she is the only one down there today, she's in the first cell to the right."

I turn back to look at him, trying to hide the fear that's seeping into my bones. "How long do I have?"

"Five minutes."

I nod once, taking once last look around at the snow and trees before I descend the stairs, it was dark, but there was just enough light to see where I was going. I guess I could be grateful for that.

"Miya?" I call out, looking around at the horrible sight before me when I reach the bottom of the stairs.

This place was a mess, and whilst it was warm, it smelled of decay and week-old piss. Did they leave people to rot down here? The only lighting was a flickering florescent above my head, several small metal cells on each side of me. But beyond the cells I couldn't see anything, not a guard or toilet. Not even a bed.

"Elora? Is that you?" comes a faint voice to my right, so quiet that I almost miss it.

I rush to the first cell, peering inside to see Miya huddled up in the corner, her clothes torn and dried blood coating her hair and skin. She looked terrible, but I was ready for that.

What I wasn't prepared for was the anger in her eyes. "You did it didn't you?" She whispers accusingly. "You mated them."

I collapse onto my knees, leaning against the metal cell, "Yeah. I did. I had no choice Miya. They would have killed you."

I try to keep the emotion out of my voice, but I fail, doesn't she realise that I did it for

her?

"I was ready to die." She whispers through sobs, "I wanted to die."

"Don't say that Miya. I can still get us out of this." I say, pleading with her to be strong.

"I have lost everyone who ever meant anything to me Elora! They are dead!" she screams, banging her head agaisnt the wall. "They are all dead."

My heart breaks for her, knowing that there is nothing I can do to ease the pain she is feeling. Not when I was feeling it as well. I felt it a lot before I met Miya, a little less since she came into my life. But it was still always there, a heavy doubt hanging over me wherever I went.

A voice is my ear whispering 'is life even worth living anymore' at every turn.

"You still have me." I sob, not knowing what else I can say.

"NO I don't!" She screams, her eyes bright with rage. "You are fucking them Elora and sleeping in a warm bed, we are NOT the same."

Ouch.

That hurt.

That really fucking hurt.
